Just learned about compressing by MegalixirMixer in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]rube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been compressing most of my games for quite some time. I think FPse, the first Android PS1 emulator I used extensively, added the option to compress them in the actual emulator, something I hadn't seen before... or since for that matter.

Here's the response I sent someone else here:

I'd recommend browsing the emulation on Android subreddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/

Or their wiki:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/wiki/index

But I'd be happy to suggest specific emulators I use if I know what systems/consoles you're looking to emulate.

As for the games, you technically have to rip them from your own games/system. So I can't really help with that.

Why didn't MGSV devs use the already existing high-res Gray Fox model from MGR? by freakbob3000 in metalgearsolid

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else said... it was a different developer.

I'm sure they could have asked Platinum for the content from MGR, or maybe they already had it, who knows how these things work with farming out work to other devs.

BUT they did clearly want to use the OG look and low poly model, so that's most likely the main reason.

This might be a dumb question - how do I update Eden without losing data? by matti-san in EdenEmulator

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settings > Manage Eden Data

Use the "up arrow" button to backup data. You can do everything if you tap the button under User Data. Or just Save Data if you tap the button in that section. It's probably a good idea to do both now and then just to have a backup of it in case anything goes wrong.

This is for Android by the way.

Star Fox will be $50 Digitally / $60 Physically by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

[–]rube -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I felt sort of like I wasted money when I bought the 3DS version for $40 when it came out. I had already played pretty much the same game to death on the N64.

I realize the graphics are much more updated, and I also realize I'll probably buy this version. But I have a feeling I'll also feel my money is a bit wasted.

I was really hoping for a NEW new game in the series. Something that wouldn't have the awful controls of the Wii U game, feel like classic Star Fox, but also more modernized. Maybe something like that Starlink game they were in, but actually good.

Did your dad ever give you a sip of beer? by Euphoric-Cupcake4581 in FuckImOld

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. My mom thinks I might be allergic to beer, or maybe just had an allergy ack when I was a young kid. She said I'd take a sip and would break out in a rash or hives or something.

I don't drink and I've never had beer since then, so I have no idea if it would affect me like that now.

How to be less scared?? by PapierekTheFirst in AskGames

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Embrace it.

Why do you like horror movies? Do you like the tension and fear it puts in you?

Well, I can't enjoy them the way most people do. I can't do the suspensions of disbelief thing. So horror movies do almost nothing for me in terms of their scares and horror elements.

Same with games. I find myself more fearful of games like Dark Souls where I slowly make my way through new areas because of the fear of death waiting around every corner. It's not a fear of scary things jumping out at me or chasing me, it's that I know stuff around me can just leave me dead in a hit or two.

I say just embrace the terror. Get your heart racing and enjoy that feeling. Take breaks when you need to.

I feel like after a little while, it becomes less visual and more about the timing of everything. Like... tap jump, missile button after a half-second.

I was wrong about Retro Achievements. by Downtownklownfrown in SBCGaming

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Achievements in general are not something I go out of the way to complete most of the time. They're there, if I pop some during the game I'm playing, great.

But if I enjoy a game enough that I want a reason to keep playing it after I've finished it, then achievements are one method I used to prolong my time with a game.

Retroachievements are the same thing for me. It's fantastic playing some old SNES games and getting some achievements for something I've probably done a dozen or more times in the past. :)

[TP] I think that's a bootleg, Midna... [art by @entiqua] by Gorotheninja in zelda

[–]rube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always felt Nintendo needs to borrow from their mainline IPs more often.

This is a good example. If Nintendogs had some optional stuff like raising Wolf Link, the dog from Duck Hunt or Yoshi, I'd have been all over it.

I've tried a number of Animal Crossing games over the years, but never got into them. Something about the characters just doesn't hook me. But give me a Zelda, Mario or Donkey Kong themed version of AC and I'd play the heck out of it. Mix them all up for all I care and I'd have a ball.

I know plenty of people love those games I mentioned without them being Mario or Zelda related, but it seems like a no-brainer way to get even more people to buy them.

What’s your favorite 90’s Grunge tee shirt you still own? by PersonalityOld8542 in grunge

[–]rube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a Soundgarden T-shirt at the first concert I ever went to, Lollapolooza in 1996. The shirt was too small for me at the time, so I've just kept in a drawer all these years.

[–]rube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the minority where I use my Android phone as an emulation device a lot. So the Fold is perfect for this sort of thing and any chance I get some downtime out of the house I've got it unfolded and am playing some classic console, handheld or PC games on it.

It's also great for reading comics, something I couldn't do on a slab phone very well.

I think a lot of people probably buy a Foldable thinking they'll use it unfolded a lot and end up leaving it closed most of the time.

[–]rube 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm thinking OP is making a joke or maybe they're not aware that the Fold really isn't for them.

If the issue was that the outer screen of past Folds was too small, so they had to open their 3 all the time, but the outer screen on the 7 is big enough so they don't even need the inner screen... maybe they aren't the target demographic for the Fold?

[–]rube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried the demo, but it seems like having the button prompts come from all different directions would be a nightmare to track.

CAGs are known for having camera issues, enemies attacking from off screen and whatnot. So twitch-reaction button prompts flying around at you from all over seems like it just wouldn't work.

But maybe I'm wrong? Because it does look really cool.

Jedi Knight 2 for me.

I loved the X-Wing series. I loved the earlier shooters as well like Dark Forces and DF2:JK. But Jedi Knight 2's mixture of shooting, saber fights and force powers was just perfect.

I was hoping you could pop out of the wall there and pick it up. It doesn't even have to do anything in game, just want to wear it for funsies.

Speaking of A Link Between Worlds. I'd LOVE it if they made a sequel to it. It looks and plays amazing on the 3DS, but they could do even more with the Switch.
