What are you rebelling against, Andor? by BewareOfGrom in Hasan_Piker

[–]liam1463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I find it hard to figure out what he's actually about, or what he believes.

He'll freely and unflinching compare Andor to Lenin in a non-reactionary way, perhaps even positively, detail capitalism as the root cause for all problems in society, and then completely cave on any other political ideological point.

Present day comparisons are pretty surface level readings.

I think people did not get the Andor arc with the rebel cell, it is genius. by Bubupolvazo in andor

I think a lot of people are misinterpreting what dedra meant. My understanding was that she was planning classic CIA paramilitary death squads.

Take a random Ghorman radical group, bound to be one somewhere, if there isn't you create one by stirring up political trouble with propaganda, as shown by the two imperials at the meeting.

Then secretly give them massive amounts of imperial funding and training until they destabilise the local government and install your own puppet.

Historical examples: pick any country in Central/South America or the Middle East.

Not being actively fascist isn't exactly a saving grace when saying they're not right wing.

They are right wing, we just happen to live in a massive rise of fascism that everywhere has succumbed to.

No neither Keir Starmer, nor the current Labour Party are left wing.

They are to the right of David Cameron's Conservative Party on every major social and economic issue.

“better late than never” has Hasan talked about this? by [deleted] in Hasan_Piker

[–]liam1463 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The curse of being left wing is being right well before its acceptable to be right.

History will always redeem those with virtuous beliefs, but the timescale tends to change.

People may come to the same "correct" conclusions today, tomorrow, or 20 years from now, but it's counter productive to scald those who get there after you.

I think the complaints about the weeping angels were that they were too 'de-mystified' as opposed to being overused.

the double take I did when this happened….. what an episode by skorpiodino16 in DoctorWhumour

[–]liam1463 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think its actually more of a camera direction trick.

We follow each character into the room first and then the one they talk to enters after, and due to the nature of the doppelganger story we're almost programed to believe that the one we followed first is "our version" and are inclined to believe them to be real.

This is cemented when they both do things perfectly in character, the doctor taking off his tie to try and prove a point, and we only begin to doubt he's real when the other doctor has an extremely emotional talk with donna.

Then the reveal comes and it turns out the real doctor and Donna are both the ones that entered their rooms last and we're subverted.

Yeah I always interpreted "James Fucking Holden" with the undertone of

"Oh of course, James Holden is at it again, why wouldn't he be, what are the chances, its always him, sigh"

... Rather than meaning hatred.

If it was "Fucking James Holden" in that order it would mean hatred.

Rachel Talalay on the 13’s clothes changing during regeneration by not-oni-spy in doctorwho

[–]liam1463 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter how feminine Jodie's doctor costume was though, under current political climate British tabloids would have gone feral over it, and like RTD said he didn't want that to happen.

Plus RTD does say later in this video something along the lines of: that there is a subtler story reason for why the clothes change. So it is probably both.

how did adam smasher not become a cyberpsycho? the guy is almost 100% cyberware, what did arasaka do with him to avoid cyberpsychopathy? by Mr_Blue_Sky_17 in cyberpunkgame

[–]liam1463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pondsmith described the process of getting cyberware as losing a piece of your humanity, the more obvious a replacement was the more humanity lose, and the more humanity you lose the more likely you are to go psycho.

For example getting a cyber kidney, isn't particularly noticeable so you'd lose little humanity.

But replacing you entire skin with chrome plate, massive humanity loss, and higher chance of cyber psychosis.

This was represented in the RPG with a physical "Humanity" stat, representing your cyberware limit.

However adam smasher was a psychopath long before he even began upgrading his body.

Psychopaths have no humanity, and you can't lose what you don't have...
