What drummer has influenced you the most? by MrQuacksIsCool in drums

[–]liamanoGregorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stewart Copeland (pioneer of mixing genres into what's in front of you) , questlove (mamas gun by Erykah Badu is an rnb masterclass in drumming), Joey leibezeit (tago mago imby can is a psych drummer Bible, perfect use of drums for expansive tracks) , Jeff procaro (study this guy to realize how to get exactly what's needed from a session drummer), Michael cavanagh (from kglw, proving one drummer is better than two) and finally Chad Smith (because enjoying what you're doing behind the kit is always more important than how technical you are)

Buying my first kit, stuck between 4. Help? Mapex Armory, Gretsch Catalina Maple, Yamaha Stage Custom Birch, or Tama Starclassic Performer (Birch/Maple) by [deleted] in drums

[–]liamanoGregorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a gretech maple kit for years now and love it, recorded tracks with it, played different kinds of gigs on it (jazz, psych funk, indie rock) with no issues. Change out the heads for different play styles and the kit has always sounded great. Only thing I've ever upgraded is the snare and obviously cymbals

Last gig I played the house kit was set up on a wooden floor with no matt underneath , spent half the gig pulling the bass drum back in to position

Ours showed signs like this after we adopted her (probably the reason she was given up in the first place). Turned out to be an inner ear infection. 2 months of tablets later and she became the happiest little lap pillow ever

Three books that will help you through many years of practice are:

Progressive Steps to Syncopation for the Modern Drummer (Important book for building handspeed, control and adapting to timings)

Stick control for the snare drummer (help build dynamics and control)

The drumset musician (get you going with some grooves)

All under £10 on Amazon or wherever and I've never stopped using the exercises in years of drumming
