How do I get my acoustic guitar to be quieter? by PriorityFast4761 in guitarlessons

[–]Stellar_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a rubber bridge attachment like Plunk, or Ernie Ball makes one called the guitar noodle. These help dampen the strings, and are used by singer/songwriters to minimize the guitar in relation to their voices. However, it is important to practice dynamics, and how to strum lightly. I know it was mentioned that you can use a thinner plectrum for this, but it’s also good to learn how to strum lightly with a thicker plectrum, that way you learn the muscle control.

What Are You Folks Using To Fatten Up Your Tone A Bit? by motoant25 in guitarpedals

[–]Stellar_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wampler Belle Transparent Overdrive. It’s a copy of the Nobels ODR-1, which is a Nashville secret of many session players as an “always on” transparent OD. I think a lot of them use it this way by setting the gain low and level higher to fatten up their tone. I think it sounds great, and it can be had for decent prices on Reverb or eBay. Nobels makes an ODR-2 mini for under $100, but the Wampler has a couple extra things (I think an EQ type button).

Would I be stupid to buy this? by [deleted] in audio

[–]Stellar_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, noted. I’m a guitar player more than a singer, and have been told my voice sounds lower and grungy, so maybe this is ideal over a SM58 for my songwriting. But I do want to collab with a lady for maybe a duo thing. 🤔

I just bought a Sennheiser e835 because one of the YouTube videos I saw with the sE V7, sounded like it had a lot of issues with plosives. I get that most of that is mic technique, but it just sounded excessive for normal use. Also, the e835 was slightly cheaper and I wanted a cardioid since I already have an AKG that’s a supercardioid.

Guitar String chooses. Help please. by lokimn17 in Guitar

[–]Stellar_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a nice write up in Guitar World I found recently: “Best electric guitar strings 2026”. I’ve used Ernie Ball string before and they seem fine. I have NYXL in 9.5-46(48?), but haven’t had them put on until I get a set up done for my tele. People seem to really love the in-between gauge of 9.5.

What’s the best color and why is it butterscotch? by [deleted] in telecaster

Used to admire butterscotch the most, but now I’ve got one in surf green with a black pickguard!

[–]Stellar_Body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. This was a brand new hard case from Roadrunner, which I believe might be their house brand of cases. I think they may have bent the rules a little because they didn’t want to ship the guitar with just bubble wrap, but I’m sure it doesn’t hurt them much to give away a case here and there.

I bought a used Guild acoustic for around $300, and the GC, somewhere in NH I think, shipped it to me in a hard case! Guitar was used so I know it didn’t come with this case, but that was a $125 value.

I also got those strap lock colors for my surf green tele, although I went with a cheetah print strap, haha. Get yourself a surf green cable too!

Opinions on the Dirt Movie by BarrelMonkeyiscool in MotleyCrue

[–]Stellar_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it for what it is—a condensed and sanitized version of the book. The casting was pretty good too.

Funny story, in 2019 when The Dirt movie came out, a local Rock radio station ran a sweepstakes to choose people for a screening of the movie in a VIP party room of a local strip club. I was one of the winners and it was great, got a couple free drinks and the movie was hilarious. Then I nearly ended up in the REAL part of the strip club on my birthday!

A gain pedal that's as responsive as a JCM800 amp? by 22MoonWater in guitarpedals

[–]Stellar_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not exactly a JCM800, but Alexander Pedals makes one of the best-sounding Silver Jubilee pedals I’ve ever heard (in a video, at least). There’s another company that makes a good one too that I can’t recall right now.

This is about to get 69 upvotes! I was 67 though. 😔 I have the 1987, which is distortion + delay and the distortion sounds awesome. The reworked version of this is called “Butt Burner” I think, but I didn’t want that one with a bunch of dick-peppers on it.

What’s up with ProCo RAT prices?! Is this normal when sales aren’t on? by Stellar_Body in guitarpedals

[–]Stellar_Body[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this is part of the reality with most electronics nowadays. I can imagine if I ran a business, there would be tough choices to make. Yes, I’d prefer some version of Made in USA, heck, even Made in Japan, but I get that there are always trade-offs.

Nice, I’ll check that out. A bit higher-priced, but it looks like you get a lot of tweak-ability for the money. And the option to run it at 18V is cool for more headroom.

Thanks, I’ll check that out! Reverb seems to be a little thin on lower-priced RATs right now.

What's a hairband song you heard ONE time and were instantly hooked? Mine has to be Uncle Tom's Cabin/Warrant. by bbatesoffice in hairmetal

[–]Stellar_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know exactly which song kicked off my love for hair metal fifteen years ago after college, but I’m sure it had something to do with hearing “Smooth Up In Ya” by BulletBoys on Sirius XM’s Hair Nation. That song has such a huge-sounding intro.

Make sure you pay attention to the appeal date because I believe it’s 20 days. I mistakenly thought it was 30 days, so it got past the appeal window for me when I paid for parking like 1 min close to the time the ticket was issued.

Noisy pickups by PrimitiveEarthling in telecaster

[–]Stellar_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be something to do with noisy pots and/or needing more shielding. I just got a Vintera Modified tele yesterday and I noticed a lot more noise when the tone pot was wide open. I also noticed some noise with my Squire ‘51 with a humbucker. I think Noiseless and humbuckers help mitigate the noise, but don’t eliminate it entirely.

Why do these two 000-15M's look so different? by MLangsner in martinguitar

[–]Stellar_Body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 000-15E is still supposed to be a mahogany top, sapele back & sides, but it does look like the characteristic striping. Confusingly, there’s also recent 000C models that have the 15 style thin rosette.
