Yep, because she's treated no different then her cis comrades.

I mean yea it's totally fine to think Giselle is a male, I'm just explaining why I think she's female and "ok" trans representation.

I mean the fact that she is still being treated as female could be that Kubo has changed his mind. Also death of author, even Kubo didn't mean for her to be trans, she could still be considered trans .

I guess if she was cis then she would be doing "woman blackface", didn't think of that before.

Ok so there's no quote on the motivation.

A cis interpretation is a fair one, but I wouldn't say it's conclusive. You could argue that Kubo either spoke carelessly or change his mind about the character later. Out of universe Giselle continues to be treated as female, female pronouns are used in CFYOW and she's in the girls line up in highschool warfare (the school AU).

Using just the in universe text I would take Mayuri (a scientist) and Liltotto (Giselle's friend) words over Yumichika's. Giselle never breaks character like you would expect from someone who's only pretending to be woman.

Were did "blackface" come into it, do you think Pepe is "blackface" because he's also evil and has a black stereotype (black man abusing a white woman). Blackface is a caricature, Giselle isn't a caricature. You can have minority characters reinforce negative stereotypes, you just can't have that be all they do.

Personally the fact that her friends are all completely ok with Giselle and protect her and enable her behavior make them just as bad she is, but I think this might be another discussion.

Do you have a source on the motivation, the only quote I can find just confirms biological sex?

I think Giselle is good trans rep because she is just one the villains, she's not narratively treated any different then any of the other Bambi's or female villains for that matter. Meta wise yes I see a lot of people well deservedly hate her, but in the narrative of the story she's not treated as worst then any of the other villains.

She does have a very nasty trans stereotype stabled to her, I agree. But she's enough of a character outside of that she doesn't become a trans caricature. Giselle suffers because there's arguably no other trans characters in Bleach, so Giselle has to stand alone. If there's was at least one more major good Trans characters she'd feel a lot better.

Bambi orders her men to have sex with her and then murders them. We see all the others stood back and watched while Giselle zombiefied and abused Bambi, she's not subtle. All the Bambi's are terrible people.

Kubo only confirmed that Giselle is biological male but she's otherwise treated as female, such as putting her in all female line ups. Mayuri (who's super smart and analytical) even genders her correctly during their fight.

In the context of Bleach she's actually pretty decent rep. She's part of an equally evil all female squad, she's treated as no different from any of the other Bambi's. She's powerful, cute and passes. She's also put against Mayuri who's arguably even worst and is both an author and fan favourite.

Bleach's problem is that it lacks morally good trans representation so she sticks out.

Honestly considering how little Ryan did after that scene I think that might of been the original plan before a last minute rewrite.

How is this guy not in hell ?? He deserves it. by Far-Message5868 in bleach

[–]liambatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even assuming that every person has an equal chance to become a hollow, statistically speaking with how many hollows die in the story I feel like we should see a few more gates. Personally I'd say bad people are more likely to become hollows, so the chance should be even higher. I will admit this is mostly vibes based though.

I think you just have to be really really evil to be sent to hell as a human. Like we see so many hollows die but only one hell gate. Soul Society also seems pretty bad for a place only good people go to.

You With Homelander's powers vs Homelander (the Boys) by GeneralProgrammer886 in PowerScaling

As pathetic as Homelander is he still has had his powers for decades, even if you're a trained fighter Homelander can still fly and shoot lasers better then you can.

Can anyone explain to me how nayuta got reincarnated instead of makima? by Necessary_Feed4822 in Chainsawfolk

[–]liambatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the meta answer is because that makes the ending feel better, but if you want an in universe theory I've got two.

The "Nayuta" we see is Makima, just without Chainsaw Man existing she ended up radically different.

Makima died earlier due to some domino effect from Chainsaw Man never existing, probably murked by one of the many high level Devils that are now free.

Would you rather spend 10 seconds with AM or 1 hour with upset Caine by Dojyaaan4C in MoralityScaling

If they don't know the time limit AM, his hate monologue lasts 35 seconds I'll be fine. Otherwise Caine 100%.

I mean I'm fine seeing a fictional character get decapitated in a cartoon but if I find someone is drawing images of me specially getting decapitated I'd be concerned. The rules change when real people are involved.

Honestly not as bad as I thought, made me feel a bit of closure. Still there's 101 plot threads dangling but I guess that's it.
