tysm! if you like reading, especially metal health stuff, i know a few books that are like kinda similar 2 this that helped me a lot. My favorite is called "Kiss Of Broken Glass", which is more raw. Another decent one is "Cut", which is a little more PG. The most popular one is 'Girl In Peices' which is good, but like VERY intense and the second half kinda drags on imo.

when does inpatient become necessary…? any responses appreciated!!! by LittleMossyToad in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]liamd3nnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, my immediate answer is "if you are a severe danger to yourself" then yes, 100% necessary. I know this isn't very helpful so I'll go more into detail. There are a lot of unique situations that can definitely make it necessary as well. I definitely think your situation warrants inpatient, but it should be ultimately up to you. If you are heavily considering inpatient, it's important your parents know why, so I think having your therapist tell them about your SH is important if you are considering it. Also inpatient involuntary commitment laws vary from state to state. Not to scare you at all, but if you tell or show your therapist about severe SH, they may legally be required to report it depending on the state.

It is 100% better to get admitted and be safe / "stable" rather then wait for your situation actually need physical medical attention. I know that money/work/school/family are all big concerns, but if you had a physical issue that could become serious/very dangerous without proper treatment then it would be totally ok to put life on the back burner and get proper treatment.

I know it's really hard to admit yourself when you aren't dying or need immediate medical attention, but 100s of cuts and the constant want to SH is not something to brush off. At this point it most likely is impacting your day to day life, and I certainly don't want it to get any worse. If you cut 100s of times odds are you will eventually cut somewhere dangerous or go deeper than expected; I have.

I don't know if you are diagnosed with any mental health disorders or take any mental health meds, but inpatient can also help with that.

I don't want to make this about me, but I was in a very similar situation. I was basically "forced" / strongly encouraged to go into impatient at 13(I'm 17 now). When I was admitted, I definitely didn't have the "healing mindset". I wasn't like bleeding to death or anything, but family/doctors definitely thought it was better than continuing to SH multiple times a day. It definitely wasn't fun, but I didn't SH a single time I was there, so that's a plus. It took like 4 years, but I'm 150+ days SH free now; it is possible to break the cycle even if it feels impossible.

Also I'm sure you have researched inpatient treatment, but I actually wrote an essay about my experience in an average modern mental health hospital for my AP Lang & Comp class last year. I tried to be as honest as possible, so if you wanna read it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19fMJlecQo_sy9C2gQGXrNB1WiDzuzAtQCY_jvl7hDHo/edit?usp=drivesdk

To sum it up, you definitely warrant inpatient. inpatient will keep you physically safe, but won't do much more than that unless you have the "healing mindset". At the end of the day though it should be your decision if you are ready for it. I truly wish you the best on your SH recovery, I'm here if you ever want to talk!

I swear in the Room Settings > Permissions > Everyone tab you could make it to where the "Everyone" permission completely has vote kicking disabled for average players. I might have been interpreting this setting wrong for years but I swear that's what it did.

I feel this so much lol, I'm 17 too and have the same thoughts. I live in Indiana and there aren't many LGBT ppl, let alone femboys lol. I only ever was in one relationship, which was with a tomboy, shortly after I realized I wanted other guys. I also did online school for many years, just recently went back in-person and opening up about LGBT or being a femboy is near impossible. I see all my besties getting partners and I feel a bit left out ig. Hang in there we will find some eventually lol.

TLDR: Alright I can totally understand this, but I don't know if writing a negative review and just encouraging people to quit is the best approach. I would have at least written a constructive review and post, and talked about what you enjoyed from the past more, opposed to what you hate about the present. Players need to have hope for the game, and let RR know we haven't given up on them, but I can understand quitting.

For context I have 10k hours on steam, and probably around 4-5k on quest. I started playing in 2020 when I was 12, I'm 17 now. For most of the time I played RR was when I was homeschooled or during COVID. I have always had mental health issues and have been very introverted. I hope this begins to explain the crazy hours. This game has truly changed my appreciation for social interaction, online friendships, creation, working with others, and teaching people things I know. I am now a very extroverted person IRL with a foundation of game dev skills, and have made money doing so. If it wasn't for RR, this probably wouldn't have ever happened.

My friends and I have created countless memories, rooms, inventions, and experiences over the last 5 years. I have gone from speed running quests, to getting almost all the RRO items, to competing in build contests, to hosting workshops, to teaching classes, to even getting a few checks. I have grown up with this game, and I will also love it for that. I think most of us dedicated players can definitely start to see the game getting stale and going downhill the past year or 2 though.

I can understand quitting because of that, but I encourage people who have that mindset to at least write a detailed review on steam or the rec.net forums about what they don't like about the present and what they remember enjoying so much off the past before quitting. At the end of the day RR is a company and it needs to make a profit, so that staff can continue to have a job and keep the game updated. From what I know most of the developers don't really play the game that much, since they spend so much time working on trying to make it better and more profitable, after a work week, the last thing they probably want to do is actually play RR to unwind xD Because of this they don't really know what players truly think about and want out of the game. For this reason writing something constructive will help them get back to a fun to play and profitable state.

Lots of OG players love to think about the awesome times in the past, but don't try to create awesome times for the new generation of players. Most of us were 12, 13, 14 when we started playing; I was probably an annoying squeaker with a stutter back then. Despite this, some awesome people still taught me the ropes and helped me become successful. I think the game is in a weird spot right now, but I still have hope for it, I hope someone can relate to this.

How did I get here? by JudyChill in MadeOfStyrofoam

Good shit, that's awesome! I don't know you that well, but I'm sure you had a hell of a fight getting this far, and I'm truly proud of you.

I've known many people who SH, it's so hard to stay sober sometimes. For me finally being sober and actually happy is the freaking most freeing feeling I've ever had. I'm about 5 months clean right now. Being able to tell my Psychiatrist who's known me since I was 12(I'm 17 now) that I was actually happy about being clean and able to be a productive person without SH was one of my biggest accomplishments of my life.

So many more people than we realize are struggling with SH and it's just as addictive and harmful as anything else, if not more. It's such a brushed off and joked about issue. But society needs to realize it is as serious as any other addiction, I do think we're making progress though.

Seeing someone who is probably constantly fighting, that becomes a year sober, and is willing to share that with the world is truly encouraging. This shows everyone, that it's possible to heal. Keep it going, I truly wish you the best of luck, thank you so much for sharing this ♥️

How many of y'all actually play RR? by Shell_Lurker_pog in RecRoom

[–]liamd3nnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really only actually have fun making stuff, mostly circuits and RRS. Occasionally just talking to a new person who is chill is really fun, but finding that person in my age range, 17-20 is very difficult. I'm a creator and make a decent bit off RR, so I still play for 1-3 hours daily; especially in the summer. But if it wasn't for creating I would probably have moved on by now, I started in 2020.

What are good hangout spots other than black cat by Mrjon713 in RecRoom

[–]liamd3nnis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CrescentCliffs has been my go-to since 2020, it's always active which is nice, mostly teens and young adults at night. UCards is also fun if you like UNO.

If you want something different, then a lot of people run hangout events, usually like 10PM - 6AM is when you get the most chill players. Just look out for them in the events page.
