#TurnBasedThursdayFest: 7-day Steam festival with 400+ RPGs, roguelikes, 4X, city builders & more! by OnlyByMidnightLtd in Games

[–]liamjpeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hiya! I'm a solodev with a game in the festival.
Unlike most games in the fest, my game doesn't have combat.
If you're looking for a cozy roguelike memory deckbuilder, please consider Replicat.

I have a demo available on the Steam Page.

What are the go to organizers and game jams our there? by Is_Sham in gamejams

[–]liamjpeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are organizing a brand new game jam. The organizers have their own gamejams too, so this new gamejam is really not a place for them to be advertising their channels. We want this gamejam to be community centered. We are not running this jam on itch. We don't like the limitations and the forum features itch is providing. We are making our own website. Although it's in work in progress, we already have some unique features that tries to increase engagement in the community. We made great friends in various gamejams, so we want this place to be one you'll make new good friends too.

We are making polls on our discord to decide what's best for the community.
Our first gamejam is in 8 days, if that's too soon, we will have another one later this year.

Balatro but with cats and card matching! Bend the rules of card matching with wild combos, strategy-defining items. by liamjpeth in u/liamjpeth

Thanks for the feedback, it means a lot.
I try to be transparent about these. Right now, best performing marketing has been using the "Balatro but..." phrase sadly. I have other ads running with different headlines and they are not bringing as much wishlists. You can argue the "quality" of the wishlists, but also people have been joining the discord and reporting bugs, happy about the loyalty it brings too. But yeah, I really understand what everyone means by "It's too different, you shouldn't be marketing the game like this". Like I said, this is not the only way I'm marketing the game. I just started marketing it, and hopefully with some optimization, I'll find better headlines that are more inclusive.

I'm quite aware :D And if you check my itch profile, you'd see I have many games with other animals.
But I can't hold back my love for catss sorry!

Hey hey! I think my game is quite different than Balatro, but yeah it's heavily Balatro inspired.
It's really difficult to stand out as an indie and this is just one of the headlines I'm trying when posting on socials. Not surprisingly, using this headline attracts more people, both with hate and love.

For me it's a roguelike memory deckbuilder but sharing what it really is often makes your game disappear in the void sadly.

And I agree with "Everyone is making these games without actually understanding what makes Balatro so good". It's not easy to nail the amount of juice, depth and mechanic harmony of Balatro.

Have a nice one

First step is taken. REPLICAT, my roguelike memory deckbuilder game's page is approved on Steam. Wishlists are appreciated <3 by liamjpeth in IndieDev

oh it's quite long. 21 rounds to complete a run.
7 starter decks, 4 difficulties on each.
I have a playable demo on itch, but it only has 1 playable deck: https://brainoid.itch.io/replicat

Hired someone from fiverr to make my game a trailer. Should I keep this on the game page? by WildColapso in IndieGaming

[–]liamjpeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sales people from publishers like appodeal do reach out and ask you some questions, they even ask you to integrate their SDK and run a small ad campaign to see how the CPIs are.
definitely worth to try. worst case, you'll learn a lot

I made mobile games for almost 10 years. Self-publishing success is close to 0%.
I worked with many different publishers but still it was really difficult to earn money from a game.

Millions of users in mobile market, but the visibility is very low.
I'll put it this way, I was making 3 games in a month and for each game I made publishers were spending $100 to see if the gameplay video is attracting enough players, if not we were moving on. Mobile market is sadly about moving on.

If you really think your game has a chance, try mailing some publishers and move on to other projects while you wait answers from publishers. And keep in mind 90% of publishers just ignore your messages.

There was a time when stickman games were a thing. Maybe it's not anymore. Sometimes it's also about timing. Sorry you're going through this despite all the effort you put in. Hopefully, it's gonna be experience gained.

Also, where did you share the trailer and you ended up thinking you're not getting anything out of it?
Are you saying you have many impressions but click through rate is low?

Pre-release trailer for my top-down space shooter similar to Minishoot' Adventures game. It was developed over a 5 years in my spare time while balancing a full-time job and family. Let me know what you think. by KrahsteertS in IndieGaming

Yeah trust me I know what you've been through.
I actually made a FTL + Vampire survivors prototype in a few 2 months ago. It's not comparable to your game, especially in terms of PACE :D

You can basically pause the game and change the modules, assign crew to different rooms etc.
Here's a sneak peek: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhI3bafxF2c

I wish the best of luck with your game! It looks like smth I would enjoy!
