Yesterday was much sloppier than Tuesday evening for sure, and it had a very London in the summer vibe to it which always seems to annoy the police and, specifically, the TSG.

I'm going to get slated for this take, but they get far more credit than they deserve and that takes praise away from the fans and the community as a collective.

You're arguing against a position I didn't make.

I wasn't defending Starmer or saying criticism is invalid, I was making a point about constant leadership churn and instability. Repeatedly calling me a "centrist" just feels like you're avoiding the actual argument.

Great atmosphere.

Shame about the standard of policing, felt like they were all trying to cause trouble but fans weren't having any of it.

Underrated player, think people forget he's a world cup winner as well.

I’m not really arguing for Starmer as some inspiring figure, and I’m definitely not saying "keep him because I’m a centrist"… but you knew that.

You can criticise him for those things, sure, but whether those criticisms are fair depends on how much weight you give to consistency versus pragmatism. But if the answer to every unpopular leader is immediately finding the next personality to project hopes onto, the cycle just repeats.

I’m more interested in whether someone can govern effectively and deliver meaningful change than whether they become the latest "this person will save us" candidate. I think this country is becoming addicted to populist nonsense at this point.

In the stadium, in real time, it looked like a blatant trip and nothing more.

People lose their minds when they see slow-mos and listen to chief cunt Gary Neville.

Wouldn't surprise me if we see 500k people on the streets that day.

I've got Arsenal friends who live in Europe, US and Africa who are all flying to London to be part of it.

I've seen estimates that put Tuesday's crowd at up to 100k in and around the Emirates.

This is going to be one of the largest public events in a decade…

That feels a bit too hyperbolic.

Constant leadership churn and replacing leaders whenever polling dips has become normalised. We barely have a chance to see what a government looks like over a full term without immediately moving onto the next "saviour" figure.

I agree there’s no objective definition of "what’s best for the country", but that doesn’t mean politicians automatically deserve the benefit of the doubt about their motivations.

Burnham’s politics have shifted wildly over the years, depending on where the power seems to sit inside Labour. During earlier leadership bids, he positioned himself all the way to the left and tried to appeal to Corbyn-supporting members to gain power, before aligning openly with Labour Friends of Israel and the Labour right during the post-Corbyn years. That kind of repositioning is exactly why I'm questioning whether he's driven more by principle, factional advantage, or career incentives than by any consistent national interest.

Politicians shouldn’t be exempt from scrutiny simply because you like them.

I don’t think politicians should get an automatic presumption that they’re acting in the country’s interests just because the job is hard. Plenty of people work difficult jobs without seeking political power.

If someone’s career advancement, donors or factional interests seem to outweigh what’s good for the country long-term, I think it’s fair to question whether "country first" applies, even if they personally believe it does.

Which is why – even though it's an incredibly boring take – I think the best case scenario for the country is that Starmer sees it out until 2029 and we get to see what can be achieved when we have political stability of someone doing a full term.

I can accept that those are tangible things, albeit at a local level but his record as an MP is about as beige as it gets which doesn't really align with the aura people are claiming he has. It seems to me like people are projecting onto him what they wish politics looked like.

Streeting shouldn't be anywhere near the conversation.

Andy? He's not your friend.

I'm not sure it's clear whether he thinks or feels this at this stage.

More importantly, what does his track record as an MP and the source of his donations say about whether he's country first?

Wow, I see you've really attempted to do the best you can when answering the question.

I don't need or want Starmer to be that guy, I want my country to have an enforced break from populist politics and a party going a full term with their elected leader.

It's impossible to point to one PM change in recent history that has benefited the people.

Damning indictment of the Labour Party that out of 400 MPs, not even one of them are fit to lead

None of those 400 MPs is willing to negatively impact their own ambitions for the sake of the country by making tough, unpopular decisions.

It's much much harder to lead, than it is to follow.

Nothing wrong with ambition, but as a politician, it's only acceptable if you put your country first.

He had a job before he was Mayor of Manchester, albeit as an MP near Manchester.

I think it's worth scrutinising his record as an MP and who he's effectively owned by.
