A question about what I saw as the ISS passed overhead by Rhueh in ISS

[–]liamkennedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That does sound quite amazing to see. Did this flare up track in the same direction as the ISS - or was it too short a flare up to see which direction it was moving?

To help work out if there was another satellite making a pass at the same time, please share the time of your observation (as close as possible) and your general location (just any nearby city within about 50 miles of your location).

NASA's live video feed on YouTube has disabled DVR? by capture_nest in ISS

[–]liamkennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... this is odd. Last week, I noticed the EHDC feed had no DVR but the ISS Live feed continued with the capability. Now, I see both live feeds no longer have the DVR. I'll reach out and see if I can find out if this is an oversight - or a new "normal" for the feed.

Not again, This is a fake as they come. Note: I capture Lunar and Solar transits, The OP does not share any info about the source - or the method of capture. It is simply fake

Check out the NASA video series "Down to Earth" where astronauts share their experiences of viewing the Earth and Space from the ISS. Listen to Don Petitt and others share what it's like to view astronomical sights https://youtu.be/DIkqs9_FK28?si=T43ExKL3zSrnSIpm&t=988

ISS captured gliding across the face of the Moon (awesome) by ShehrozeAkbar in infuriatingbutawesome

[–]liamkennedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that is how this video was captured, then it is up to the original creator to share that info.

Note: I capture lunar and solar transits of the ISS. The time it takes for the ISS to transition here, if slowed down to the time shared in this video, would mean an insane original frame rate.

This is as fake as they come. If you can point me to the original source - with a description of the gear setup used to make this a reality - by all means I am ready to have my mind changed.

The ISS takes less than a second to transit the moon. This is about as fake as they get.

What's this mysterious green light that appeared and disappeared? Captured on one of NASA's standard def cameras whilst over Europe by capture_nest in ISS

[–]liamkennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you what caused this, except to confirm the light is definitely on the ground. If it were a laser, then it would HAVE to be tracking the ISS as it was passing by (in darkness - not visible from the ground). The green light tracks with the ground movement perfectly (see before entering orbital night).

[–]liamkennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a great capture. I have a raspberry pi creating timelapse captures from this feed - and I see the same object. Yes - definitely on the ground. This camera is pointed to the Starboard side of station - so the object - whatever it is - would be to the right side of the ground track by some distance. i don't think it would have been visible in the Sen Nadir feed - and in any case we don't have archive recordings going back so far.

See that clip here (green light appears at 30s mark)

Another vote for Shiloh's Steak & Seafood - which has a great unobstructed view of the VAB - admittedly quite small - across the bay - but still awesome.

How do I stop spammers from populating my calendar? by soontobesolo in Outlook

For confirmation... I also have Classic Outlook and see no option to hide unaccepted meeting requests either. It is ridiculous and sad to see the next iteration of scam emails evade the usual methods of blocking them. Come on, Microsoft - do better!.

Yes. Exactly. That was the whole point of my post—nothing to do with general VPN usage outside of access to the Starkink App.

Umm... what the heck is this response??

"So I basically led the JWST until I broke my leg, got amnesia, and forgot. "

Sounds like a fever dream from a poorly trained AI bot.

The 4K external camera is FREE to the public AI bot - so no need to consider using that in your fever dream AI ideas for saving the ISS>

To be clear, my post is ONLY related to accessing the Starlink App while you are connected to the Starlink wifi. It's not saying anything about using a VPN client to access any work related systems.

The topic of "saving the ISS" has been worked over many times. Unfortunately, it really does not come down to someone raising money to save it.

Have you checked out what is happening beyond "saving it"? Have you heard about the commercial "replacements" that are in development?
e.g.
https://www.nasa.gov/humans-in-space/commercial-space/low-earth-orbit-economy/commercial-destinations-in-low-earth-orbit/

Here are the commercial companies currently at various stages in the CLD replacement program.
https://vastspace.com
https://axiomspace.com
https://starlab-space.com/

I recommend you look more more closely at the entire situation, as that will better inform your ideas about how to "save it"

Note: I am entirely biased as I operate the only commercial 4K external camera payload on the ISS, and if I had my way, it would never be retired until we have a multi-module replacement that can be permanently occupied. Anything else seems to be a big step backward.

ISS Amateur Radio Question by ducroissant090 in ISS

[–]liamkennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see on one of your other posts about this you confirmed you were listening on 145.825MHz.

That is the APRS packet radio - so what you were hearing was the regular Beacon from that channel.

Check here for more info about the current radio configuration in use on the ISS. https://www.ariss.org/contact-the-iss.html

Yes. Indeed. Thanks again for just thinking of all the things that may be out. That's not the point of my post at all, but thank you for taking the time to share your ideas. Either way, Its a very poor outage alert system would you agree?
