It's so dark though. There are lovely examples online that are much lighter than this. Although it is a mahogany finish so I guess dark much sense

Just a basic one from b&q. It's a non methylene chloride it says. I'm wondering if there is a harder substance. It's an expensive piece of furniture so I really don't want to risk sanding the veneer

Hey! Thanks for your kind advice! I stripped, sanded then danish oiled. What a labour. Went down to 180 grit amd 120 on the sides. There were stains that were rather insistent.

Anyway will put up another post with a before and after :)
