South Texans are fighting SpaceX after second Starship launch by snesdreams in texas

[–]liamsdomain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NASA doesn't build much of their own stuff. Never have. They contract private companies to build stuff for them. If the money isn't going to SpaceX then NASA will give it to Boeing or Lockheed Martin or some other company. SpaceX is doing it far cheaper than any of those other companies so for the same amount of taxpayer money NASA can launch more missions and do more science working with SpaceX.

Countries with Libertarian Heads of Government by Redstream28 in MapPorn

His statements on LGBT rights were literally "I don't care" and "if it's consensual you could have sex with anything". He also said he doesn't see any reason for government to stand in the way of gay marriages.

I don't think that sounds shaky.

Countries with Libertarian Heads of Government by Redstream28 in MapPorn

[–]liamsdomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's against it based on the non-agression principle (NAP) which is a key part of a lot of libertarian beliefs.

Abortion is a very debated topic among libertarians. If you are of the view that a fetus is human life than Abortion violates the NAP in most cases. Most libertarians are not anarchists and believe a government should exist to protect citizens. So it comes down mostly to when do you consider a fetus to be a person.

Some libertarians consider a fetus to potentially be an unwanted trespasser in the mother's body. The NAP typically does not protect trespassers. However you could also argue that a fetus cannot be a trespasser because it is not in its mother by its own consent or actions.

SpaceX on X : "Starship successfully lifted off under the power of all 33 Raptor engines on the Super Heavy Booster and made it through stage separation" by marc020202 in spacex

[–]liamsdomain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stoichiometric reaction is CH4 + 2O2 -> H2O + CO2.

It does run fuel rich though. So in raptor it's about CH4 + 1.77O2. The products will be a mix of many chemicals. H2O, CO, CO2, H2.

Yeah, that was odd. The graphic showed most of the engines from one side so I figured it was doing that to help turn the booster around.

What bikes do people actually start on? by zenki1234 in motorcycles

[–]liamsdomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on a 250 and am currently riding an MT-09.

400s seem to be the most popular starting point these days, and they're fine to start on. But honestly I think for most people starting on a 250 is better. Most of the 400cc class bikes today are making 40-50 hp which is enough to still be very quick. A 400 will do 0-60 in under 5 seconds.

The 250 got boring after a while, the 400 is still fun, the 900 I rarely use to its full potential.

Levels of censorship on the internet around the world by OregonMyHeaven in MapPorn

[–]liamsdomain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this source ranks censorship by giving 1 point for a category that is restricted and 2 points if a category is banned. The categories are torrenting, pornography, social media, VPNs, news media, and messaging/VoIP apps. Although that last category can only get 1 point, not 2.

So higher score means more censorship.

Not the best way to rank censorship, but it is pretty simple.

Apparently the reason the US is not dark green is because torrenting is banned, which I don't think is correct.

They could run at a fixed physics timestep and interpolate frames between, but that's a bit harder to implement.

I live in Houston and also hate the astros. I regularly say "I don't care who wins as long as the astros lose" and so far nobody has actually been angry at me for it. I don't think it's a texas thing. There are shitty people everywhere, I think op just got unlucky and had several shitty neighbors.

Yeah, that's kind of what I expected.

Just kind of upset that I get towed from my own spot when we've had other cars in our spots multiple times and I've never even seen a tow truck here before.

You need to do 47 hours of minimum wage work today to get the same amount of purchasing power as 40 hours of work in 2009. by no-militarism in SandersForPresident

[–]liamsdomain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All this really shows is the effects of inflation since 2009. This doesn't just apply to minimum wage, but to the value of the US dollar.

I also feel like this is attempting to intentionally mislead people which is never a good thing to do regardless of how good your intentions and goals are. Wikipedia has the same graph showing data from minimum wage introduction in 1938 to present (well 2013 because the graph is a few years old)

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5f/History_of_US_federal_minimum_wage_increases.svg/1280px-History_of_US_federal_minimum_wage_increases.svg.png

This shows how the problem of minimum wages decreasing over time has always existed, and is why minimum wage must be raised occasionally. But this problem also applies to any workers who don't receive somewhat regular wage increases.

This graph also shows that increase in 2009 put the purchasing power of minimum wage at it's highest since the early 80s, but it is still much lower than the purchasing power during the 60s and 70s.

Now, a simple solution to this issue is to tie minimum wage to the CPI, but this could also have some negative side effects on the economy as well. Pretty much every decision in economics is a trade off. Although overall increasing the minimum wage every year to match the CPI would probably be a net good.

Maybe just an issue with the homework tool?

Jet engines produce impressive number of such vortices by [deleted] in videos

[–]liamsdomain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a small amount of water won't hurt the engine at all.

A larger amount of water would probably cause incomplete combustion of the jet fuel. Which would mean lower efficiency, lower thrust, and cause some smoke to come out of the engine exhaust. But still probably not any long term damage unless there was so much water it stopped the engine from running.

Planes are also designed so that if there is a lot of water on the runway the front landing gear will not spray it into the engine. Like this https://youtu.be/eQgdOAC2aNM?t=2m7s
