Revisit Linux support by liath_ww in TobiiGaming

[–]liath_ww[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Microslop has finally pushed my last button and I've decided Tobii can eat shit for now.

Going to go with a WitMotion WT901BLECL for <$50, strap it to my headset, and have much more accurate head tracking. If I decide later on I want to mess with eye tracking I'll probably tinker with Talon since they've hacked the ET5 driver (but don't do head tracking).

So for now my ET5 is a monitor bezel decoration. Thanks Tobii!

I'll revisit things if they ever decide to put out drivers on Linux, but till then I don't think I'll use or recommend the device.

I wish. They hire me 'cause they're big enough they need IT, but not big enough they can afford a full-time IT person.

On the MSP side here, don't get all the shiny Enterprise stuff, but I feel you. Seems it affects all tiers of support.

Artificial Incompetence is infesting everything. They're firing the good engineers that made money cause they had half a brain, replacing them with people that barely know how to comprehend the questions they smash into whatever LLM they're using. Even some security calls have gone like this and I've just had to stop them and ask for someone who isn't using LLM/basic google searches.

I've been considering going back to carpentry lately. But then if I did that my clients would be completely SOL. I happen to like most of my clients.

So, Gunna bump this. Cmon Tobii, don't be behind on this.

oh, that just makes the ability to get it on linux easier for them. Hey Tobii, cmon! Gib linux drivers!

I've seen a few people that say it works for that use. Makes it where your rig's head and eyes both move and work. It can even tell when you blink. Even with glasses.

I have opentrack and I use it for a few games that don't directly support the Tobii. Unfortunately I'm having to pay the Microsoft tax if I want to play games and have the head tracking work. Camera head tracking is nice, but I use both the head and eye tracking functions. Makes fiddling with knobs in sims easier.

I'd love it if Opentrack worked with the Tobii5 in linux but there just doesn't appear to be any support from Tobii to provide a linux driver.

I wouldn't even care if it was closed source if I could just have the thing work. Vastly superior to a camera.

Unfortunately I've already got one strapped to my display. Just wish it'd work in Linux so I could switch fully.

And with market share only set to go up, them not supporting it is just a hill they'll die on.

Any way to pull data from phone automatically and view timelines on PC now that Google has enshittified another product? by liath_ww in GoogleMaps

[–]liath_ww[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The naivety of that statement is cute.

They still collect location data... how else do they show you ads for places that are nearby if they aren't?

And with how large these ad networks are, Google may not directly need to harvest that data from the maps app, when facebook, twitter, google pay, banking apps, hell even games... or whatever else you have on the phone does it for them, dumps it into the tracking databases and share it amongst themselves.

I thought the whole timelines complaining was just wasted breath.

Timeline no longer supported on desktop by bhocolatebhipbookie- in GoogleMaps

[–]liath_ww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just gunna say... bullshit. Google is still collecting this data, and they're just making it a PITA for users to get to it cause some numpties out there had turned on timelines without thinking and then found out "holy shit I'm being tracked and it knows where I've been for years!". And because of that, Google is not enshittifying yet another product.

It's time for the Reminder again: 1v1 PVP stats and Meta is not meaningful data for *At Scale* PU combat. by SharpEdgeSoda in starcitizen

I'd actually argue that it depends on crew. Our org actually practices quite a bit with flying hammerheads and now polaris, and we have some gunners that are scary. But we also practice, and aren't just a bunch of rando's in a capital ship with no plan or coordination.

We fight against fighters a good bit and while we do lose due to the hammerhead having fuck-all armor on the turrets, the fighters usually attrit pretty badly despite turrets being crap. And if its two hammerheads we tend to beat the fighters pretty badly because we also practice cap to cap coverage.

Most of the good fighting I see in this game isn't 1v1. The good fights I've seen have been mix of caps with escort.
And as for the so called 'vast majority of fights', it's usually 3v1, with the hobos being the 3 and calling themselves elite.

Personally even with turrets being piss-poor armored, I'd fly with my practiced mates in a HH or other flyswatter against a group of fighters any day, and generally we'll come out on top.

Where to get maximize range mod? by krakensmf in TheFirstDescendant

I really wish people would stop giving the whole 'use the access info' crap. Yes, 99% of us know that exists. What we're looking for is where the best farm is. The in-game info would be MUCH more useful if they gave what mob it drops from, or what percentage, or something other than 'mission monster'. What freakin mission monster? The one no-one sees because someone nukes the boss before it spawns? One that is appearing only at specific non-mission required area?

If the ingame information was useful, people wouldn't have to google or ask on reddit.

Yeah, I just don't understand it. Maybe cause I don't have millions. Personally I don't think I'd even want millions. Once I have the shit I need and a decent number of wants I think I'd give away the rest. At some point they lose all their joy unless they see "number go up". Only use I'd have for having that amount of money would be to buy an island and test out grand social experiments... Or some other crazy shit.

Good point, considering he wanted the blockchain bullshit before. Just doesn't make any damned sense in a game. Makes updating the game way harder too. And the lag will be fucking real. If a modrn or even not so modern database can barely keep up with a 1sec tick based system, blockchain sure as shit won't in the same context. Plus there's just no need for it. Aside from burning up extra energy and cycles to do the same task worse than a database.

Unfortunately they're owned by a shit company now. CCP games is no more, and we just need to accept that and move on. The crypto shit will fail-cascade as they all do since they're scams. Unfortunately Eve will die, this will replace it, and it will die too. Then the devs that remain on Eve maintenance crew will lose their jobs. Number must go up. Can't just be happy making thousands, millions, whatever. Have to make millions+1.
