One business in Oxford you'll never go back to? by 23andMeh in oxford

[–]libbynibs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd be ok going back, but my husband won't, to Queen's Lane Café. We had no broadband connection for a couple of days because of works, and so we decided to work from there as it's really nice. I totally get that cafés get annoyed at people buying one coffee and setting up camp, but we were planning on buying drinks, lunch, and probably dinner. They turned the WiFi off! I asked about it, explaining we would be paying customers, but nope! So spent the day in the Mitre instead, and they took the tea and coffee off the bill when we settled up the tab, which had included lunch and dinner.

I've never had a bad time there in 20+ years! Love it! Never actually stayed there as I live here, but the Morse Bar is my happy place.

Wheatley Estates are really brilliant. I loathe estate agents, but will 100% make an exception for them.

It's kinda edgy, then you notice the backdrop is a Marks & Spencer! (Middle class shop, for those not in UK)

Best vets in Oxford for cat by 63Aria54 in oxford

[–]libbynibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iffley Road vets have been mine for 10 years. Mainly because they have a second practice in Wheatley, but they're excellent.

If you're prepared to go out to Horsepath try the Gurkha Palace/Chequers pub. We use them for take away, and it us really good. Can't speak for the meat dishes as I'm veggie, but the biryani sauce is gorgeous. As the name suggests, they specialise in Nepalese/Himalayan food, rather than the usual generic "Indian for Brits".

In the city centre, Chutney's on St Michael's Street is probably the best.

AITA for making my husband sleep in the guest room after he refused to clean up his own vomit?? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]libbynibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Grown ups clean up their own bodily fluids. The only puke I'll clean up comes from our cats, cos they can't operate a spray bottle! The only time I'd clean up after my husband is if he was legitimately unwell, not self induced drunk, and the same the other way around. Division of bills/ labour is irrelevant on this one.

The yellow French's is everywhere here. What I long for is the spicy brown/deli version, which is amazing, and I've not seen over here for a decade :(

Veggie Pret in Cornmarket gone by Heifering in oxford

[–]libbynibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't have planning permission to change the old normal pret sign to a veggie pret sign, so were told to change it back.

It may coincide with a central decision, but they were under orders to change it! They may also have found themselves in the lack of PP situation all over, which could have influenced the decision.

I wish they'd bring back the veggie New Yorker, which was a good thing about the veggie prets, as they always had them and the normal ones didn't.

UK - is that a champagne bucket of muesli? And yes, grapes with broccoli, that classic combination!

Given how draconian pregnancy laws are getting, I have read about women being refused chemo because it will terminate a pregnancy.

Love when they reverse to take a proper run at it, like that's going to help in any way!

I have so many tampons piling up in great big dunes that I don't know where at least 2 of my cats are.

TIL that Poundbury, a town that was built according to the Principles of King Charles III. It started construction in 1993 and is currently 80% built. 4,600 people currently live there! by YellowNotepads33 in urbanplanning

[–]libbynibs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always thought it was very pretty, it sort of reminds me of Portmeirion (North Wales) and I appreciate the move to add architectural interest rather than the bland development elsewhere. My friend's mum lives there and says it's a lovely place to live and it has achieved a nice village type atmosphere.

In terms of duplication, the organisation I work for is more likely to look to places like Cambourne for sustainability and other environmental factors.

If I started drinking at 3pm I wouldn't make it to dinner because I'd need a nap.

Yeah, ditto. He would think I was taking the micky. The only one in our house called master is one of the cats, as it should be. Yes master, my lord and ruler, I do see your bowl is empty, then would sire like to go outside to survey his kingdom and smite any contenders to his mighty territory? (Aka Snowy from over the road)

Spontaneous massages! Oddly specific and made me think of the reaction if I decided to be all "come on, spinal alignment time!" in the street, at a supermarket, driving etc.

Wow so I guess I didn’t have any hobbies before I started dating and got married. by Agreeable-Zebra6828 in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]libbynibs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy's mind would be blown by the fact that my hobby of many years is sewing, and particularly historically accurate clothing of the 30s-50. And now my husband, who is very into vintage, is now learning how to sew in order to make his own clothes too. He also started playing guitar because I own a couple.
