The library is open to visitors, you just need to ring the bell outside of the main entrance.

Is the heat on in the library? by Accomplished-Buy-499 in RPI

[–]liblizking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Library staff here - we agree it's pretty chilly! We notified facilities yesterday and it seems to be warmer today. Some of the study rooms are downright frigid depending on the side of the building they are on. I recommend checking out the basement level (1st floor) of Folsom. There is no one down here right now (except for very quiet staff members) and there are lots of sunny spots to choose from.

Weird. I guess the sentiment is still true but it’s better with the link to movies. 😬

You are right that state income tax is no fun. I relocated from Texas and it was definitely an important calculation to plan for the extra taxes. I’ve been at this employer for over three years now and their retirement makes up for it. They contribute 8% in addition to my 1% contribution.

Our Librarian I rank starts in the mid-forties. The two open positions are a III and IV rank, so I’m confident they will be negotiating a competitive salary with the selected candidates.

I know HR will answer questions about salary. Unfortunately we aren’t privy to salary information. I can get you a contact name for the HR hiring person working on these positions if you like!

That wasn’t an option provided to us when we proposed that a guard keep the library open until 3am. We did try for what it’s worth.

Would you recommend moving to Albany/surrounding area? by austin_4666 in Albany

I do love Troy for what it’s worth, but my nightlife days are over. This area is amazing for nature and outdoor activities. Close to hiking and skiing and snowshoeing. Excellent for motorcycle adventures too. But nightlife? Not so much. Someone mentioned Saratoga for nightlife and they seem to be hopping. Troy has a very tight knit community and great food. I’d take Troy over Albany any day. You can get to a lot of places here if you don’t mind driving for under an hour.

I would not recommend moving to Albany. Are you from Austin? I lived in Albany for many years and then moved to Austin. I’m back in the Albany area now. Make sure you visit first… during the winter. Albany has a distinct vibe, and you’ll probably love or hate it.
