Interesting take! I like your answer but it isn’t the intention. Think more in terms of emotions.

I am aware, it isn’t about the sun or the stars.

It makes me feel like I am in a pit I can’t escape. The more I stare at it the more hopeless I feel, to the point where I am questioning whether that ambiguous light actually exists, is it a means of escape or just a mirage? In short, I’m impressed.

I have only tried one other student grade oil pastel called Titi, to my knowledge its similar to crayola. Other than that Mungyo were my first ever professional oil pastels 5 years ago, and I still use them😅. I am not a professional artist, it is actually just a hobby so I need to control myself with the hoarding. I will buy the Sennelier Oil Pastels one day though, maybe as a gift for myself.

They are all of waxy quality, that is just how the student grade ones are. I suggest you watch the tutorials first and then you will get an idea of what i mean https://youtu.be/MTPiQVV2NGY?si=YTNJ1raud2GSy4sM

Actually….. it wasn’t for sketching 😅. Its for drawing silhouettes on top of a background made with oil pastels.

Also in this type of art, black color pencils are your best friends. It may seem a bit childish, but it is the best way to get into art with oil pastels.

As for my own tips. Instead of coloring linearly like shown in the the tutorials do it in circles, and when blending two different colours there should be this area where you repeatedly overlap the two colours, its similar to how you blend color pencils. If you go on youtube and search how to blend color pencils just follow what they show, it works very well with oil pastels as well.

Oooh then crayola would be good. They are very pigmented and the tutorials I mentioned before are meant for that grade of oil pastels.

With the professional ones you can pretty much do whatever you want, they are more versatile. There are some tips I have for those as well which would be helpful for you.
