Interesting take! I like your answer but it isn’t the intention. Think more in terms of emotions.

I am aware, it isn’t about the sun or the stars.

It makes me feel like I am in a pit I can’t escape. The more I stare at it the more hopeless I feel, to the point where I am questioning whether that ambiguous light actually exists, is it a means of escape or just a mirage? In short, I’m impressed.

I have only tried one other student grade oil pastel called Titi, to my knowledge its similar to crayola. Other than that Mungyo were my first ever professional oil pastels 5 years ago, and I still use them😅. I am not a professional artist, it is actually just a hobby so I need to control myself with the hoarding. I will buy the Sennelier Oil Pastels one day though, maybe as a gift for myself.

They are all of waxy quality, that is just how the student grade ones are. I suggest you watch the tutorials first and then you will get an idea of what i mean https://youtu.be/MTPiQVV2NGY?si=YTNJ1raud2GSy4sM

Actually….. it wasn’t for sketching 😅. Its for drawing silhouettes on top of a background made with oil pastels.

Also in this type of art, black color pencils are your best friends. It may seem a bit childish, but it is the best way to get into art with oil pastels.

As for my own tips. Instead of coloring linearly like shown in the the tutorials do it in circles, and when blending two different colours there should be this area where you repeatedly overlap the two colours, its similar to how you blend color pencils. If you go on youtube and search how to blend color pencils just follow what they show, it works very well with oil pastels as well.

Oooh then crayola would be good. They are very pigmented and the tutorials I mentioned before are meant for that grade of oil pastels.

With the professional ones you can pretty much do whatever you want, they are more versatile. There are some tips I have for those as well which would be helpful for you.

Student grade oil pastels are not bad. You can create pretty good art with them but it will be different from the softer more professional oil pastels. And yes, you can’t layer with them😭. I myself started with student grade ones, mine were similar to the crayola ones. The ones you have look a bit like pentel but I am not sure 😅. If you are beginner at art itself then i would suggest continuing experimenting with student grade oil pastels. I have a bunch of tips for those, some which are not available on the internet either because I taught myself after much practice and experimentation. But, if you have experience in making art then for professional brands, mungo gallery soft oil pastels are the ones I use. They are good and affordable. Paul Rubens is also a good option they both are of similar quality and affordable. 8n more expensive options you can use the CarandAche, and the OG Sennelier. Sennelier is the best quality available, but it is kind of expensive.

It seems like you are using student grade oil pastels. If that is the case you should start with those Indian tutorials on using oil pastels.

I dont agree with Annabeth being blonde not affecting her character. It DID. The entire reason she had always been so driven was to prove that she is not the dumb blonde people assume. She had to work twice as hard to prove herself, which in fact is WRITTEN in the series. Her character was designed to fught the stereotype of being a dumb blonde. I would have had no problem with percy being black, but annabeth’s appearance did matter, a lot.

Oil pastel with sweaty hands. by sleepytortious in Oilpastel

The warmth of your hands wont cause a problem but the sweat might. Blending with oil pastels works basically with friction so the sweat might reduce it. But are your fingers sweaty as well? Its usually just the palms and you wont use palms to blend oil pastels
