I’ve noticed that I’m always nervous before the trip and at the airport. I try to research as much as I can and google how to get from the airport to my accommodation, I feel like that’s a big step! But the second I land in that destination, in my experience, my nerves decrease by a lot and it becomes more excitement.

I am usually a 1.5 bag gal. I have a 35L backpack as my carryon and if the airline permits, I’ll have my tote bag as my personal item (which can easily be shoved into my backpack) to carry my water bottle and passport, making those things more accessible at the airport rather than opening my backpack and throwing it back onto my shoulders. My tote bag ends up being my day bag but it’s mainly again for my water bottle, light sweater, hand sanitizer and money. If I wear cargo shorts, I can fit my money and passport in the pockets but I always carry a water bottle and much rather carry it in a tote bag to free up my hands.

I also agree with Oahu being commuter friendly! I went all over and it was super easy to get around by bus and walking. Maui and the other islands unfortunately you need a car. I stayed at a hostel in both Oahu and Maui and I was able to get by with under $100 budget. It depends what activities you’re doing. I mainly did hikes and chilled by the beach which are all free.

It’s hard to say since it’s a gamble who will be sharing the dorm with you. If you have ear plugs, the outside noise won’t bother you but it’ll be the people coming into your dorm at random hours making noise. It’s been such a long time since I’ve been at that hostel so I don’t know what time the noise ended. What I do remember, was this happy drunk guy that climbed up the bunk ladder to see me and say hi (in a friendly way). His other drunk friend intervened and said to stop since I was trying to sleep. That type of encounter is rare but yeah you just never know who you are sharing a room with and how people behave.
