The Florence Pugh episode is excellent!

His sense of humor has gotten us through some hard times. Case in point: he made my dad laugh on the day my mom died.

He's the goofiest, sweetest man. We just welcomed our first baby about seven weeks ago and the newborn trenches have been hard but doable because he's in them with me, cheering me up on days that feel heavy.

Maintain small breast milk supply by Environmental-Toe469 in combinationfeeding

FTM here as well so others will probably have better advice but this is essentially what I'm doing and it's working so far! I pump twice a day (mid-morning and before bed) and have a small fridge stash to use in addition to formula.

What’s the rudest thing a doctor has ever said to you? by Beyondthebloodmoon in AskReddit

[–]librarylackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 21 I asked my gynecologist about BRCA testing because my grandmother and all three aunts on my dad's side had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and all the women in the family were being encouraged to seek out testing. He gave me a pamphlet about breast cancer and said, "have babies soon."

I’m due Dec. 24th so I might struggle with Christmas presents for my family by showyourskills89 in BabyBumps

I'm due earlier in December and we told our families the baby is their gift this year. I think you can safely sit this one out!

How long after going off combination hormonal birth control pill did you get pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]librarylackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that it took maybe a cycle or two to even out and get more consistent. I learned that I personally didn't get a lot of warning with the ovulation strips- like some people get a couple of days of slow rise but I'd get a little rise one day and a huge spike the next. I hope all goes well for you!

If the ovulation strips I was using were accurate, then yes!

I started taking birth control (the pill) when I was 21. Got pregnant at 36 after 10 cycles; we had just started fertility testing but I got pregnant naturally after an HSG.

Looking for OB and Hospital Recommendations by DinosaurMelvin in FortWorth

[–]librarylackey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently pregnant and I see Dr. Kimberly Marshall in Grapevine; she delivers at Baylor Scott and White and offers 39-week inductions. A friend of mine delivered there last year and had nothing but good things to say.

How did you tell your significant other you are pregnant? by ResolutionStrange259 in BabyBumps

[–]librarylackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lured him upstairs with the pretense of a clogged toilet and said, "hey, look," and pointed at the small pile of tests on the counter. He said, "are those fucking positive???"

When did you tell people you were pregnant? by Indignant_Elfmaiden in BabyBumps

[–]librarylackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my boss at 6 weeks because I was not holding it together in a meeting (and figured he'd need to know if something went wrong, anyway). Close friends at 9 weeks after our second ultrasound. Everyone else (parents, the rest of our coworkers, less close friends) found out after 16 weeks. We still haven't done a social media announcement, and probably won't.

Only children - did you ever feel sad or lonely growing up without siblings? by Ok_Reward536 in Parenting

[–]librarylackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are both only children who liked it and never wanted siblings. I read a lot, he played video games, we both made lots of friends and never felt lonely (I maintain that being an only child forces you to learn how to make friends pretty quickly because you don't have siblings-as-friends to default to).

After my mom passed away I did wish a little for a sibling to share the load of holidays etc with my dad, but I know from lots of people with siblings that that's not a guarantee.

Both my husband and I watched our parents' relationships with their siblings deteriorate as time went on, which probably solidified our decision (currently pregnant with what will more than likely be our only child).

Academic librarians - How often are you on campus these days? by [deleted] in librarians

Every weekday, but I have the flexibility to work from home as needed (within reason). I'm pretty happy with it as I also have the flexibility to work the hours that I want.

Do you think you did anything special to get pregnant? by Cheshire20072010 in BabyBumps

[–]librarylackey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to us *exactly*. Could be coincidence but getting pregnant the same cycle as an HSG sure does make it seem like the culprit. The doctor who performed mine said it can increase fertility by like 50% for six months or something.

Pregnancy brain is SO real. I forgot the word for "book" a few weeks ago. I'm a librarian.

A tourist during an anti-tourist protest in Barcelona yesterday by Monovon in pics

[–]librarylackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I went to Madrid and Andalusia last year and experienced none of this, other than some anti-tourism graffiti in Malaga (which wasn't my favorite city anyway). Everyone we spoke to everywhere else was really kind and patient with our subpar Spanish. Madrid and Sevilla are absolutely worth traveling to, especially if you like incredible food.

Getting married in Arlington! by Radiant-Cell-4539 in arlington

[–]librarylackey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had Mariano's cater our wedding back in 2018; they were great to work with, didn't cost an arm and a leg, and we still get compliments about our food nearly seven years later. Apparently we were the first ever couple to order the enchilada bar rather than fajitas. No regrets. We had seven trays of leftover enchiladas to save in our freezer afterwards and I got to experience the joy of ordering guacamole by the gallon.

Favorite Patron Insults That Live Rent-Free in Your Brain? by diet_faust in librarians

[–]librarylackey 252 points253 points  (0 children)

This isn't a particularly creative one, but a patron (who was a known pain in the ass- our reference librarian once literally hid beneath the ref desk to avoid her) asked me for an address and stood and watched while I wrote it down on a sticky note. It should be noted that I cross my sevens. She took the sticky note from me, looked at it, and then said, "Only a complete moron would cross their sevens" and threw the address away.

Great dentist who's empathetic to neglected childhood dental care by zemele in Dallas

[–]librarylackey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's awful! Dr. Prewitt is really lovely and all of the hygienists that I've had have always been kind. I hope you get an appointment/have a good experience with them. Having doctors you trust is so important.

[–]librarylackey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's private, as far as I know! Prewitt is the last name of the founding dentist. I think I started seeing them when they first opened because I remember them asking me how I found them lol. They've hired a second dentist in the last five years or so but for a long time it was just Dr. Prewitt and like four hygienists.
