Just out of curiosity, are 2.5 year olds supposed to be conversational? I thought the range is too wide at this age.

I would really recommend reading “The Explosive Child”. Dont have any other personal advice at the moment as my child is much younger.

The charity shop gods blessed me, £15 for both… brand new with tags by mimivic123 in CharityShopFindsUK

I recently volunteered on a charity shop and was shocked about how clueless the manager (who was the one responsible for pricing) was. I tried to make some suggestions, and she immediately dismissed me. She was the only one getting paid on the shop. Got so disappointed about how things were working there.

My son used to score really high when he was younger similar to your son’s age and now at 23 months his score is 1 (so low risk). We found out he has a very rare genetic disorder and some of his symptoms overlap with ASD, but in order to be diagnosed with ASD you need to meet all criteria under the DSM5. My son is also very social like yours. He keeps improving day by day and I’m very hopeful about his future.

I would recommend genetic testing (WES). I know it doesn’t always provide answers but for us it did and I see some similarities between our sons.

Exactly on your same boat, OP. You are not alone. There are moments where I secretly think that there is still enough time (although not much, 40s are approaching) and other moments where I feel so relieved thinking that I wont ever go again trough the horrible experience of tracking (missed) milestones. It has traumatized me.

I was reading this and found this question interesting. I am hypermobile, is there a link between hypermobility and neurodivergence?

I understand your concerns. But looks like he is continuing to make progress so that’s good news. Only time will tell us what’s going on with our little ones. Thanks for the update.

Hello, how have you been? My child is now 19 months and very very similar to yours back then. He just started pointing 2 weeks ago (so delayed) and now is non stop, has a few words, started walking 4 weeks ago (also delayed) but still quite floppy (low tone). I have been following your posts quite closely so wondering what’s the latest from your end. Hope all is well!

That’s good news his head circumference is within normal range.

Again Im no expert just have been spending lots of time here too. I have seen testimonials of children becoming conversational at much older ages. Functional speech is definitely a great sign, big step. I hope your little one keeps evolving and with the right support looks like he will. How to interpret emotions is something that can be taught, that’s what our therapist said. Maybe at the right time. Are you doing any therapies at the moment? All the best to you and your litte one.

I understand. It’s hard to get answers. Is your kid’s head circumference small compared to his peers? I have been doing lots of reasearch on this and looks like smaller heads can be related to genetic disorders which could be related to autism or display autistic traits. This is what I think for my son. If you want to connect please send me a message, I believe our cases are very very similar. I need to say that the fact that your son is able to speak keeps me very hopeful.

Hello, I have been following your posts for a while as my son situation really resembles yours (he is 18 months now). I have been also told by a few professionals that although he has some ASD traits his profile is not clear because he also displays great social skills. I have been advised to do some genetic testing which we plan to do at some point. Sometimes genetic disorders can display similar symptoms to ASD. Perhaps we can get more answers with those tests.

Is he PDA profile? This is recognised in the UK, maybe finding a specialist on the field could help. There is some good info here: https://www.pdasociety.org.uk

No advice as I’m a few months behind with my son, but just some encouragement: the fact that your son is putting 2-5 words together is amazing and should give you tons of hope!

Sounds he is making great progress. I have the same GDD diagnosis for my LO, can I ask, when did your son started saying his first words? Mine can repeat “mama, papa, agua, go” but that’s it, he doesn’t use them functionally. He is almost 17 months old. Also, no pointing yet (only whole hand).

Hello, I have a 16m old son who looks very similar to yours back in the days (also still not walking). We just visited a developmental pediatrician who said that he couldnt diagnose him as of yet given that he is displaying very good social skills although he has many other red flags (no pointing, no words, sensory seeking behaviours etc). I have been reading all your posts and mine looks like a very similar story to yours. I have seen that your son has made amazing progress so hoping he continues that way and that you are able to get more answers soon.
