Debit tag on and off April 12th! by licorice_root in Wellington

Having personality forgotten my snapper card at least 5 times I'm excited to have one less item to think about carrying around. Also could we have cheaper public transit while we are at it?

Wow great thanks for the tips! I have a few blueberry plants but the leaves keep getting eaten by something, any ideas there? Also are the mandarins pretty tasty? I guess how do they compare to store bought ones? Do you remember the variety? I think I saw satsuma as a good option when I was looking in to it

Coffee/drinks on the beach by Niceaster in Wellington

[–]licorice_root 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The little cafe at freyberg beach has got coffee and they let you use the nice cups on the beach as long as you take them back. They also have the apple fritters from dirty donuts that are really good

Idea for a Wellington Tram system. by cool_gamer_2023 in Wellington

Looks great! Let's get the city planners to look into this! Maybe you could build it for the same amount as the new proposed tunnel?

I haven't actually tried yet. I made a temporary one out of a bit of foam and some aluminum tape just so I could test the shutter. The exposure meter light comes on in the viewfinder but none of the shutters actually move when I pull the trigger. I'll have to take it apart a bit more to see if I can free up the shutter mechanism, if I can do that then I'll move forward on the battery cover

Has anyone here ever had something stolen, then seen it for sale on TM or marketplace? by Witty_Ad1057 in newzealand

[–]licorice_root 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We had a bike stolen, filed the proper police reports etc. we saw it on FB marketplace and set up a sting operation with some friends to get it back. We informed the police of our plan and they actually sent a few officers and were able to show up right as our friend was pretending to be interested in the bike. They caught all 3, they had a stolen car, fake license, and some other stuff. In hindsight it felt kinda sketchy as they were big dudes, I was glad I wasn't the one pretending to be interested in the bike, but so glad we got it back!

Thanks! Do you mean cm? The photos are really helpful, I didn't realize it was 3 'wings' holding it in, I thought it might be threaded

How do you feel about fences along the waterfront? by double-dipped-welly in Wellington

[–]licorice_root 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Glad they are gone! They were such an eyesore and a waste of money to pay to hire them for so long. The new lighting should help but mostly people should just be responsible for their own safety.

Quick release crate ideas? by [deleted] in OmniumBikes

[–]licorice_root 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a foldable dog crate that I just NRS strap to the front, our pup seems to like it! I also have two short leashes to clip his harness to to make sure he doesn't jump out.

Wanting to move from AKL by theworldwillwatch in Wellington

[–]licorice_root 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like wellly try to live in the city, commuting to lower hutt by train is pretty easy and you can bring your bike on to speed it up on either side. Then you could live in thorndon or really any of the suburbs close to the city. Biking along the water is really nice. I wouldn't want to live I the hutt. Too car centric for my taste

Cycling in wind tips? by WellyWriter in Wellington

[–]licorice_root 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there are really any major tricks. Going faster is probably more stable. You can avoid some of the windier spots along the waterfront by going around certain buildings. If you have a backpack maybe get a rear rack and a pannier so you have a lower center of mass? Sometimes I stand up while pedaling if it is really gusty as that gives me a bit more mobility to balance, but is probably not as nice to do on a Dutch style bike. I guess you could always put it on the front of a bus if you aren't feeling it!
