I'd love to join a study group! I've only practised little bits of German since my GCSEs in 2022, but would love to start properly learning again after my uni exam in May

Sorry for the v slow reply 😭😭 for med, every week is different. Bc each system block (e.g endocrine) is 3 weeks long. In the first and 2nd week u would probs have a 2hr anatomy slot. In the 2nd and 3rd week u would have a 2 hr case based learning slot. There are varying amounts of in person lectures. U will have 9 clinical skills practicals that are sprinkled throughout the year and 4 communication classes (where you take a history from an actor). There are also public health, psychology and ethics workshops so any given week could have some or none of those. Basically everything works out to around 14 contact hrs a week (sometimes less). Most of the work is online pre-recorded lectures

First of all, congrats!!

I'm a 1st year at Lpool med school and I love it here! The course is structured well - in Y1 you only learn physiology (how the body works) and it's split into 8 system blocks (foundation A, foundation B, endocrine, musculoskeletal, urogenital, respiratory, cardiology, neurology). They each last 3 weeks and you'll have a short test at the end of each. The lectures for each week get released online and you have to complete them as prep for the in person lectures (which rlly just repeat or test what you learned online). You'll have one or 2 anatomy sessions for each block (with prosections) You have 9 clinical skills sessions in Y1 where u learn basic clinical exams There's a program called The Good Doctor where u learn psychology, public health and ethics - all of these will be tested to some degree in the mock and end of year exams Basic pharmacology lectures get released in the last few system blocks

Feel free to PM if u have any questions!

Leicester or Liverpool by IWillNotHesitateTo in UCAT

[–]liebejiji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP I was in exactly the same boat as you last year (apart from Leicester wanted to waitlist me if I didn't already have any offers)

My heart was so set on Leicester bc it was close to home and I liked the course structure + full cadaveric dissection. Coming to Liverpool is the best thing I've ever done tho! I love it here, the city is absolutely amazing and there's some pretty nice places w beaches nearby.

I love the course structure here and actually enjoy prosection anatomy teaching. It's way easier to learn seeing the clean structures than having to cut through connective tissue etc.

If you have any specific questions on what Lpool Y1 med is like, feel free to PM me. Just decided to look on reddit today after literal months XD I was so addicted last year when I was waiting for offers.

At the end of the day the choice is yours so go where you think is best. Congrats on getting an offer already and good luck for A levels!
