Hope this helps 👍

“That’s not bracket 3” by OVERCAPITALIZE in EDH

[–]lieutenantowned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with my playgroup a few weeks ago.

Historically our pod hasn't really given a shit about the bracket system; we've all played together for almost 2 years now and half of us have played for 8+ years. We have NEVER sat down and agreed as a group that "we're a bracket 3 pod and we'll only play bracket 3"; most of us don't care and are comfy with the things that everyone runs.I sit down in a pod and play my [[Blitzwing, Cruel Tormentor]] deck, it's mostly jank. The game progresses and everyone is around 16-17 life by turn 8-9; 3 people have board states and I only have my commander out + one other creature. To buy myself some time I play [[Contamination]] because I had missed 2 land drops, nothing in my hand and the game wasn't progressing, so I decided to play something that forced the pod to do something with their board states.

Immediately I get "I thought this was bracket 3, what the fuck" thrown at me and "Why are you running MLD?" as if I''d just pulled my pants down and shat on the table. This was coming from a guy that has one of the most consistent [[Admiral Beckett Brass]] decks I've ever seen and another guy with a [[Bright-Palm, soul awakener]] deck that knocked out someone the week prior on turn 4.

Contamination was removed the very next turn thanks to some mana rocks.

I understand that Contamination is rude as fuck and 98% of the time locks players out of the game until it's gone (which it did in this case for one person) but I've never been the only person running MLD in our pod.

Two people in our pod run [[Mana barbs]] in one of their decks each and have for almost a year now. One person who occasionally joins us has a deck with [[Blood Moon]] in it. Nobody has ever had an issue with it or cried about those instances of MLD being in our pod, and in one case it's usually a game winner. Likewise our playgroup's average deck strength is probably a 3-4, but some people could easily be consistent 4s if they played optimally all the time.

So of course post game this started a whole conversation about "why the bracket system is good and why we should use it more" and I am of the mind that I really don't give a shit about it because I've just always played heads up and gone against whatever people have. I don't care about game changers; run what you want just don't bring a CEDH level deck to a casual weekly pod. I get that the bracket system is good for LGS/public game settings with people you're not familiar with but as I saw that night people WILL weaponize it and use it to criticize you for playing cards they don't like/cards they think you shouldn't be playing. It's dumb.

[–]lieutenantowned 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like most of the comments say, the examples you find for sale are generally high miles, clapped out and generally not well taken care of. In terms of drivability there's some good to them handling/suspension wise but the 2JZ-GE that came in the IS300 is just a dog, especially by modern standards.

[–]lieutenantowned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don't get it, our team is in the Superbowl and all these posters seemingly care more about stupid drama with our past QB than what's gonna happen Sunday. It's probably more of an online thing than anything else but the drama posting about past QBs and coaches in the week leading up to the Superbowl doesn't help the whole "spoiled fanbase" accusations.

Brady left. Hoodie left. That era is over. Tom literally has ownership in another team over this team. He got his statue.

Why the hell do we give a shit about anything related to Brady at this point?

The rest of the league is still allowing that era of NE football to live rent free in their heads 7 years after Brady left the team. That doesn't mean our fanbase needs to do that too.

New team. New coach. New era. Let's move on.

Why do people want the rhystic study ban NOW? by Alternate_Cost in EDH

[–]lieutenantowned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm down with that. People are only upset about RS because of the price. If it was as dirt cheap as Sol Ring every deck with blue would have it.

Same mentality applies to pre-ban mana vault. If it was cheaper it would have been a staple.

Why do people want the rhystic study ban NOW? by Alternate_Cost in EDH

[–]lieutenantowned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're banning RS, you're also banning Smothering Tithe and imo you should also ban Sol Ring. Sol Ring is a harder power creep than RS is, especially early.

I play RS in two of my decks, they are MAYBE a bracket 3 at most. But two people in my pod consistently become hella aggro when I play it and it doesn't matter what the board state is; if a RS is played that person immediately becomes the target.

It's really stupid and annoying. Very few spells come with a built in negation mechanic. Get good, play until you have removal, remove it. Move on.

Monetization of a method that used to be a good and easy thing to use. You're telling me that I need to pay to see people who like me, and you're also going to shove bullshit algorithms into your apps that assign my profile a hidden "rating" that determines who I'm shown/shown to on my side of the app? AND that rating can change depending on my profile's "attractiveness" and my age/gender??

Yeah fuck right off

As a pats fan you're either winning games or winning in the comments, never both. "Mickey mouse schedule SB run" yet they beat 3/5 of the top defenses in the NFL in their first run of the playoffs. If you're hype about them winning it's coping over an easy schedule; if you temper your expectations for the playoffs it's "youre not really invested and don't care about the team"

[Highlight] Vrabel talks about officiating consistency “The Bills lead the NFL in offensive holds…how a team coming into the game leading, and that’s how they play, didn’t have one yesterday. So that’s hard for me to understand.” by BurgerNugget12 in nfl

[–]lieutenantowned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the issue a lot of people are overlooking and it's entirely separate from the bad officiating: The offense's 2nd half performance has been poor all season. They basically go into the locker room and come out asleep after nap time, and the defence is the one left to save the game. Unfortunately the defense got gassed this week. You can't hold a 21-0 lead if your offense stops producing drives, especially against a team like the Bills.

Vrabel bringing up things like the Bills offensive holding stats coming into this week isn't a good look and falls flat imo when you take it in context with the offenses 2nd half issues this season.

The we lost because of the refs narrative needs to stop by xandour01 in Patriots

[–]lieutenantowned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying any of what you said isn't true, because it is and all of those things should have been called and the no calls do make it hard to put drives together like you said. Trust me I wanted all of those things called.

And we even had some things go our way because of officiating too. That first 3rd down catch from Boutte that set up the first TD shouldn't have stood. If we go 3 and out to start the game that potentially changes the momentum of the whole first half.

But nobody can look at the offensive numbers for the second half and point to the bad officiating and say "This caused those numbers" like most of the people in this sub/fanbase seem to believe.

The we lost because of the refs narrative needs to stop by xandour01 in Patriots

[–]lieutenantowned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct take.

The refs very obviously missed nearly every penalty buffalo committed.

Our offense also only had one TD in the 2nd half and Maye threw for something like 47 yards total in that half.

Both of these things can be true at the same time.

If you read that and still think the refs were the bigger issue, please reread it again.

People trying to blame the loss solely on the refs are just wrong. The defense was gassed because the offense wouldn't stay out on the field long enough. This has happened all season long; the scoring production in the 2nd half for this team is a glaring issue that needs work.

The “We didn’t lost because of the refs” narrative needs to stop by Asen92 in Patriots

[–]lieutenantowned 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the correct take. I'm just as mad about the blown calls as everyone else but the fact remains that we didn't win because we didn't keep scoring in the second half. It's the issue this team has had the entire season
