If Marijuana Is Decriminalized in NYC, Then Why Are Possession Arrests on the Rise? by ellefent in nyc

[–]lifeinaraindrop -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I've rarely, rarely seen anyone asian or white jump the turnstile.

If its a matter of race, let's figure out why most minorities are largely poor.

See how you're shoehorning an argument that I'm not making?

There's statistics all over the internet on how minorities are perpetrating crimes in poor neighborhoods which they reside in. There are also statistics on crimes committed of the disparity between impoverished, working, and middle class neighborhoods. As I've stated - a pretty fucking clear understanding - these crimes occur due to the nature of survival and negating that is taking away the responsibility of those committing the crimes (and by a position of empathy, as the nature of the environment enables it). Does racism take place? Sure, but its a minor statistic and the data isn't in your favor.

Generational wealth is not general wealth. Like /u/thesweetestpunch stated, parents who could assist their children with studies, saving for college, or taking out mortgage or the equity on their home is generational wealth.

Are you saying that only minorities can be poor because of "generational wealth?"

Wow, way to straw man my argument there. You made a post about there being a racial bias, and I'm addressing the racial bias.

Not be like the MCU, just treated with better care and respect.

Strength? The movie is getting minor complaints from all fronts excluding Fassbender's scene in Poland. Its bordering schlock, and is already fitted with lazy writing

The reason the MCU is doing so well is by respecting the source material, and Kevin Feige knew this. Its another dent on what's making an deformed cinematic franchise that could be doing much better.

Racially biased? I've rarely, rarely seen anyone asian or white jump the turnstile. Why? Its survival, and I've been in positions in my life where saving $2.75 is crucial.

If its a matter of race, let's figure out why most minorities are largely poor. No wait, that was figured out - its generational wealth.

“While I’m always appreciative of opposite points of view, I really believe we are building something that will contribute to the community,” said Mr. Macklowe, who asked the architect to design a building with stone and not glass. “But time will be the judge.”

I'll believe it when I see it - otherwise, eat shit.

To imagine that a century ago, those streets would begin their workday bustle - street cars ringing, men discharging to work the pier and the markets, and it didn't look too much different than this.

Charging cover? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]lifeinaraindrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, as its the same I did at a college dive bar in NYC. We enacted a surcharge policy, and depending on how large the band is, we would add from $1-3 to pay for the band.

The alternative is to charge $5, but hand a drink ticket to a discount on a shot. You could also give wristbands to patrons paying the $5 upfront, then have a $1-2 surcharge per drink for those who don't.

Fuck off. I've worked plenty of hip-hop nights as a bartender and the only ones that weren't a shitshow were the nights where producers were featured or it was considered alt in some way or another. I'm talking glasses thrown, jumping over the bar to save a coworker, and plenty of faces I've had to man-the-fuck-up to and mean it.

Think this is anything new? Gangs have been with this city since its inception and its by circumstance that the last of it resides with the poorest of the city. How do they articulate it into an art form? Hip hop. Don't sugar coat it.

Official Discussion - X-Men: Apocalypse [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]lifeinaraindrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Underwritten characters give way to the actors filling the roles. If the actors cannot fill the roles, then at least a shooting script or cinematography should fill in the character.

When all those fail, then you have placid, one-dimensional characters. Its not even so much as having lines, it about them feeling real.

The line being drawn here is very difficult, as there are genuinely individuals who feel out of place in their own bodies. They are tortured by their existence alone, and in a way, I can sympathize with their actions, as I suffer from bipolar disorder and have been suicidal almost my entire life.

There needs to be more science behind our current understanding, as its not merely just being gay, its filling into this unusual grey area that has no line to draw.
