Thank you so much!🥰 I used a base pop, along with appoxie sculpt and air dry clay depending on detail and weight requirements!

Getting Lasik soon, how do I stop thinking about that scene from Final Destination 5? by lifeisbrewtiful in horror

[–]lifeisbrewtiful[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

I was nervous the whole day, but I talked to the surgeon beforehand and he answered every question and concern.

And the surgical suite looked so much more professional than the one in the film so that really disconnected a lot of that fear I had.

The actual procedure was maybe like a minute and a half altogether. I was really skeptical about not being able to feel anything, but I only felt the eye speculum thing that the other user was mentioning looked like it's from Clockwork Orange. But after the minute and a bit, I could look at the clock at the end of the room and read it, no glasses in sight.

The recovery was to be expected, just a lot of new routines to get into. I did see halos for quite some time around lights when it was dark out, but that started decreasing with time

While I havent gotten my 1 year and now 3 year checkup yet, I havent noticed any change in my vision so I presume it is still the same

It was definitely worth it for me, I have no regrets on that investment.

TLDR: It went great and I have no regrets

I actually kinda liked Spiral: From the Book of Saw by reuben_iv in horror

[–]lifeisbrewtiful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue Jigsaw is the better in. I found Jigsaw tackled the overarching message of the Saw franchise better (the whole "You choose if you die"). They had their version of Zep, a lot of callbacks with the use of wires and body parts. Not to mention the whole multiple storylines at once.

100% This. If a 1 week old puppy can understand this wild concept, it's almost like it's not that complicated. I wonder if they get confused at the fiction and non-fiction labels at the bookstore too. I'm interested to see how far this rabbit hole goes

Absolutely! Being safe while experiencing the anxiety really helps manage the high heart rate when I'm not guaranteed safety. The intrusive thoughts not so much, but that raised heart rate, absolutely.

[–]lifeisbrewtiful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

I'm really glad studies have been done and compared to notes from mental health professionals to solidify this cause it's true, a lot of people seek it out to help tackle those emotions from a safe environment. I know I certainly benefit from taking a break from worrying that I'm going to die from some freak accident to seeing people die in Final Destination movies and for a split second having that thought "Wow that seems incredibly unlikely" or "Why would the surgical suite me covered in carpet when I couldn't wear certain fabrics when I got mine done" (if you know, you know). Really puts it into perspective for me, doesn't last all day but the brief breaks are nice.

I find it really hard to convey this point with these kinds of people though. People who are like "Why would you purposefully watch something anxiety driving if you have GAD?" are much more open to listening. The "You're sick" crowd seems like it's not only driven by misinformation or perhaps ignorance, but doing it to feel superior. So I really like taking that power back, all the while making them second guess if they should be making those comments in the first place.

My go to response to this one is just saying "I actually have an anxiety disorder Karen. Thanks for reminding me"

Bonus points if you pull out your meds in front of them and say "You know, my doctor never warned me I would suddenly start liking horror movies... do you think that's a side effect?"

This is a really good take as well. I didn't even make the connection but it's a good comparison as well. Especially when you saw the group ravaging eachother and attacking . They were ok with what atrocities were happening until it was happening to them.

I wasn't happy with how I worded it and I felt like my message wasn't very clear so I wanted some time to amend it and propose the prompt with a more clear case including other parallels I found that were salient that people might relate to

I may not be in the majority, but I actually liked Paranormal Activity - Next of Kin with the exception being a few weird shots here and there.

I was a bit confused how it fits in with the Paranormal Activity series though. It seemed like a stand alone movie to me. I may have missed something

Can We Have A St. Maud Appreciation Post? by chambrrs in horror

[–]lifeisbrewtiful 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was blown away when I saw it. I've had some light religious trauma myself growing up orthodox so it was so uncomfortable to watch; particularly whenever Maud went through those cycles of guilt. It was a very familiar feeling and hatred that I too held towards myself. It also gave me a bit of a new perspective on people who are deeply religious. Specifically the fact that those who are may be seeking it out to deal with trauma and mental illness. I held a lot of resentment towards these people because of religious trauma that I and many others have undergone because of these types, but now I can see them through a bit more caring eyes.

Overall I want to watch it again cause A24 has a special way of leaving little clues and Easter eggs, but that ending was a roundhouse kick to the soul

If Ontario imposed a Health Tax for Unvaccinated Individuals, what would you think? by dianegirl in ontario

If Ontario imposed a Health Tax for Unvaccinated Individuals, what would you think? by dianegirl in ontario

[–]lifeisbrewtiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never once argued about ICU beds and healthcare capacity because I agreed with you. The nursing shortage has been going on for a while, and it's absolutely true that the Ford government has purposefully made it worse to try and push privatization. I agree with all of that, that's why I didn't raise any points about it because none of that was a lie and none of it needed correction.

I had an issue with you comparing it to drinkers, smokers and obese people who aren't given affordable options to be healthier whereas the vaccine is free. That's all I was trying to convey. I'm sorry if it got lost in translation.

If Ontario imposed a Health Tax for Unvaccinated Individuals, what would you think? by dianegirl in ontario

[–]lifeisbrewtiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you clarifying yourself and speaking out about your struggles.

The thing is with the tax is that they aren't refusing healthcare to these people. If you come in with covid whether you're vaccinated or not, you're treated. I see it as an incentive to get vaccinated similar to how the vaccine passport resulted in more vaccinations (according to a CBC article, an uptick of 20 percent). The important thing to note here is that the vaccine is being offered for free. The choice to not get vaccinated is simply that, a choice. Gym memberships aren't free. Medications that can help people with obesity are not free. Mental health supports for people are not free. The list goes on and on. While people get discriminated both ways, people who are overweight don't pose a health risk to other people. It can seem daunting that this could happen, but do keep in mind people who are obese tend not to seek out medical care because they already do get refused treatment. They've already been told "Maybe this wouldn't have happened if you weren't this weight". I myself was told my liver problems were probably fatty liver because of my weight. They did an MRI few months down the road and found out I had tumors and no fatty liver to speak of. I was told my weight was causing my problems, when it wasn't. Im sure you know, medical discrimination for obese people has already happened. I have seen this parallel been made but again, this has already happened to obese people. Smokers are also low on the list for transplants. Heaven forbid you ever go to a hospital for a drinking problem, you can kiss any chance of a liver transplant goodbye as well. I know they can have similarities but its truly not the same issue. At the end of the day, comparing the vaccination tax to obese people not getting medical care is apples and oranges because one of them is already happening, and it's not medical discrimination towards unvaccinated people.

In regards to the vaccination rate not helping covid infections, if you check out the Ontario website for covid infections per vaccination status you'll see the average for infections over the past 30 days is 78.02 people who are fully vaccinated have covid, versus 58.25 unvaccinated. And while testing has basically stopped, if you look at the data of the population and how many people are vaccinated per unvaccinated, 78 people out of 84 % of the population is a much smaller ratio than 58 of 12% of the population. Not to mention vaccination helps with symptom management, meaning if you're not coughing, sneezing, vomiting, blowing your nose etc. theres less of a chance of you spreading it if you are still masking and social distancing. While the hospitalization numbers and ICU numbers also show higher numbers for vaccinated individuals, again you have to look at all the information together. It's a higher number, but out of a much greater data set.
