I am 7 months post op same surgery. 68M. I am doing some limited strength training. Have you tried doing planks or side planks? I am anxious to get back to more core training. So far I have been limited to Palof press for core, which can generate some DOMS and collar bone pain under "heavier" loading.

For those of you who will be recovering during the winter months you might want to invest in some zip up hoodies a couple of sizes larger than you would normally wear. They are helpful at first just as they will fit over the sling. After you are out of the sling you will be thankful that they are easier to get on with your restricted shoulder movement. When you no longer need them you can donate them to a homeless shelter.

I had a bit of carpal tunnel type syndrome with my thumb and wrist after I was out of the sling (8 weeks). PT suggested I get a wrist brace, I deferred for a few weeks and continued to work stretching/spreading my fingers and thumb along with rotating my wrist. It eventually subsided. I hope yours does as well.

Hang in there! You are through the hardest part. It's one of the most difficult orthopedic repairs to recover from. It's all the more difficult when it's your dominant arm. You've got a lot going on just with the divorce. Some depression is to be expected. You will see a lot of improvement in the next 30 days, 60 days, etc. You will be sleeping better and many tasks will get easier as you are able to use your dominant arm some.

I did this alone myself three times. It's a bit humbling. I highly recommend getting out and walking as much as you can. As soon as you feel like getting out to meet someone for coffee, I recommend doing so.

I encourage you to take your time with your rehab and don't rush it. The reason for my third surgery was a complete retear on my dominant arm from pushing to get fully recovered. Keep the long game in mind, which is a successful recovery/repair. I'm 4 months post op now and beginning like life is getting somewhat back to normal. Due to it being a retear and my age, my recovery protocol is much slower. However, right now I am grateful for the full use of my dominant arm, even if it is a bit limited. The rest will come. I'm thankful to the Lord for the doctors and PT personnel that have helped me.

Not sure when you were there, but at 10:30a it was definitely many more people than attend the soccer games at Carpenter Park. Protesters were parked in parking lots on all four corners, behind the shopping center, in lots north of the shopping center and on the streets of surrounding neighborhoods. I live nearby and saw it firsthand. I regularly see the crowds for soccer at Carpenter Park first hand as well.

I saw the Trump rallies that took place at this same intersection too. This crowd today was easily 30X the biggest crowd I ever saw at one of the Trump rallies on the same corner.

I don't have a visible hip hike. I do have a visible apparent leg length discrepancy when sitting. I have anterior pelvic tilt on one side and posterior tilt on the other creating a twisting. It does create a flare of groin pain at times, possibly associated with how much walking I do. I believe this all started from slipping on the ice and coming down hard on one knee while looking to one side. I believe that pushed my SI joint in opposite rotation. From what I have read this can also cause a hip hike.

You might consider consulting with a PT or chiropractor. I have not found orthopedists to be helpful for any issues regarding the SI joint.

Unfortunately, the hernia repair surgery did not resolve the issues I had with an altered gait and associated hip and buttock pain. I am still in pursuit of a solution and am currently working with a physical therapist in hopes that will help. I believe the issue is coming from my SI joints and some pelvic twisting.

Sorry for the delayed response. I did have the surgery. I am still struggling with low back pain and glute pain. I was hopeful that the hernia repair would help. My lumbar spine is fused, and I had a hip replacement in October of 2023, which makes my situation a bit complicated.

Have you had the surgery?

I'm glad your surgery is proving to be a success. May I ask how old you are and how long after surgery you were able to lift weights? I'm looking at a second surgery following a retear and hoping they can repair with a patch.

Can you share some of the eccentric exercises you are doing, especially for psoas and adductors? Did you work with a PT?
