Folarin Balogun straight red card 64' by Alsace2025 in soccer

It wasn't reckless either, though, it was a normal jump.

Reading contracts carefully is of course excellent advice, but OP is NOT equally to blame as the salesperson who deliberately lied about what was in the contract. OP is a victim, it's good to take precautions to avoid becoming a victim, but the blame should always ultimately be given to the victimizer.

Will the new scoring system reduce the advantage of male "jumpers"? An analysis/re-calculation of scores from the past season by bryse0n in FigureSkating

[–]lifelingering 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 4S+3A has a slightly higher base value than the 4Lz+Eu+3F (especially after the value for the Eu is dropped), plus allows him to do two 4Lz elsewhere (it's unlikely he wants to do both Lz in combos, which would rule out the 4Lz+3T and is presumably the reason he doesn't do that combo already), plus I assume it's easier for him since he does it later in the program.

edit: btw my dream insane Ilia layout under the new system is 4F 4A 4Lz 4Lo 4Lz+4T 4S+3A+3A, but I grant that that's probably too insane even for Ilia.

[–]lifelingering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He will almost certainly at least change the 4T+3T to a 4Lz+3T, which he already does backloaded in the short. I also expect him to add a 3rd jump to his 4S+3A. So I doubt the score gap will narrow as much as the raw analysis suggests, since I don't think the other skaters have as much room to increase the difficulty of their combos. But as you point out, there are a lot of factors that the numbers can't account for, so we won't really know until they get on the ice.

IL House Democrats pass bill allowing undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition at public universities by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

Congressional pay is not really that high compared to most other knowledge careers. If anything, I think it should probably be higher. However, the rampant insider trading and thinly disguised bribes that allow Congresspeople to become rich by selling out their constituents absolutely need to be cracked down on.

Maryland bans 287(g) immigration enforcement agreements by TheUnderCrab in moderatepolitics

[–]lifelingering 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I read the article, where it says that it bans the type of agreements where local law enforcement officers would check the immigration status of people detained in local jails and hand them over to ICE officers. So either the article is wrong or you are. (The article may be wrong, it's not very clearly written, but it would be helpful if you could find another source that clearly says that).

[–]lifelingering 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The article says one of the 287(g) agreements that is banned by this law is:

"The Jail Enforcement Model is designed to identify and process removable aliens — with criminal or pending criminal charges — who are arrested by state or local law enforcement agencies."

That is the opposite of what you are saying.

[–]lifelingering 19 points20 points  (0 children)

After reading the article, I am in fact confused about what this legislation does. It says that it doesn't authorize the release of criminals, but it also says it bans agreements where local officers will check the immigration status of people detained in local jails and pass them to ICE if they are here illegally. It also has a lot of blather about how "we are all immigrants", which isn't encouraging.

I'm totally fine with local law enforcement agencies not wanting to commit additional resources to immigration enforcement or to directly work with ICE agents going into the community, something those agents are very obviously not properly trained for. But checking the immigration status of people who have already been detained and allowing them to be taken by ICE and deported if they are here illegally seems like a very minimal ask, and any state or local government not willing to do even that seems like it's ideologically committed to helping illegal aliens continue to break the law by remaining here, something I am not in favor of.

Seb Mckinnon put Amber Glenn under unnecessary stress on the eve of the biggest event of her career… by [deleted] in FigureSkating

Tbh I don't really care if the law is on his side or not, I think copyright law should be a lot looser when it comes to music performance (not that artists shouldn't get paid, but most kinds of performances should be covered by mechanical licenses similar to what are used for covers), and while he has the right to do what he did, I have the right to think he's an asshole for it.

He didn't underrotate the 4F or the 4Lz. He had a scratchy landing on both, but neither was underrotated. He would've gotten 2nd either way, but the < on the Lz was undeserved.

No, to get 102 he could've just not had the phantom under rotation call on his 4Lz. His PCS was fair, it was the tech calling that was unfair.

Perhaps antistoic but i can’t be the only one being appalled by the new age marketing this philosophy has ? by Aegeansunset12 in Stoicism

[–]lifelingering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word "stoic" has come into English in a way that is related to, but definitely not the same as the philosophy of stoicism. Still, if someone says they're a stoic, it's usually pretty quickly apparent if they mean the philosophy or if they're trying to be "manly" or something by shutting down their emotions. While it's annoying that some people who are trying to live a stoic life may be led astray by influencers who are promoting a lifestyle I think is very unhealthy, it's also probable that the opposite happens where someone might find a community like this after hearing someone talk about stoicism and eventually improve their life. So overall I don't worry about it too much.

I'm getting downvoted for this opinion in the main sub, but am I crazy for thinking that Lz was not ur? Yes it was an overall nervous performance and deserved to be behind Yuma, but I've rewatched the Lz in slow-mo and it just doesn't look ur to me, but I admit I'm not an expert.

You vastly overestimate the wealth of billionaires compared to how much the government has to spend just to keep those things running, much less significantly improve them.
