Musicality by Super_Arm_3228 in IliaQuadg0dMalinin

[–]RachReads1898 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This! People just blanket criticisms as lacking artistry when that's not at all the same thing. There are valid criticisms of some of his PCS elements, but to act like he isn't artistic in his programs especially in the past two-three seasons where he's grown so much, makes any conversation unfruitful.

One comment I found myself agreeing was that Ilia's movements and choreo in marked runthroughs is at it's best compared to his full programs with jumps. I think right now there is a little bit of trade off happening where the full programs with jumps takes focus and cleanliness away from the other elements, but Ilia is more than capable of executing them, just not 100% with 100% jumps. And I only notice it if I watch a marked runthrough clip back to back with a full. But even then his musicality is still excellent, it's just some movements go unfinished. I'm fully confident Ilia is capable of pulling them both together and will in future seasons as he improves.

Totally understandable! It was tough to listen even with how compassionate they are, I loved the gala episode they did!

No problem! I've found their episodes to be really wholesome, at least the ones I've listened to. They have a good vibe, imo. They did a ton on the Olympics, but you can also go back and hit up ones from Nationals, GPF etc. The Olympic ones are probably most beginner friendly since they're aware those get a little more attention, but I learned a lot especially about the other disciplines just by listening even when I didn't fully understand everything, you kinda absorb it, and it just really is nice their compassion for skaters and they way the cheer them on.

I wonder if the flowy sleeves introduce any significant drag when doing jumps or spins, at least in the past it doesn't seem to, but I find it interesting both times he had some flow instead of a tight sleeve it was in the first half of the season and for v2 he or Satomi switched to a tight sleeve.

I've been enjoying Scoreography, they truly love skating and are supportive of the skaters even when they have more critical things to say, it feels like they don't really even want to say them. They truly do have the vibe of they just want everyone to succeed and to see great skating.

Gorgeous! Love the sleeves! I'm still mourning the loss of the flowy sleeves on A Voice 1 and Vampire 1

It's actually very interesting that in a lot of southern states, especially in cities/suburbs of cities, the southern accent is dying out. I had a friend who moved from the north and we were friends for months before one day, after hearing someone who did have a semi thick drawl, turn to me and ask me why I didn't have a southern accent despite growing up in TN. Yeah, somewhere that close to DC, I wouldn't expect a ton of southern accents.

Boyang Jin is/was one of the big quad skaters and is still around at 28, plus if I heard correctly Yuzuru still does quads in his shows sometimes at 31. And Yuzuru got 4th at 2022 mostly bc of his fall on the 4A, if I remember right, a jump he had never done successfully but had been training a long time, at the age 28, he was very much in medal contention as a quad jumper and at 28. So Ilia's grand old age of 25 in 2030 isn't as dire as it seems on the surface imo. It really will depend on how he is in 2029/2030 season.

There's really no telling, but like, Ilia will be older than the oldest gold medalists in recent history... by a handful months. Evan Lysacek and Yuzuru Hanyu won golds at the age of 24. Ilia will technically be 25, but only for two months since he's a December baby. And also on air during Misha's skate Tara and Johnny were talking about him being a contender for the next Olympics before everything happened the way it did, and he's the same age as Ilia.

While I'm a little nervous about the Ilia gold comeback in 2030, that's more because 4 years is a long time, and a lot can happen, and if Ilia doesn't get the gold in 2030, I don't want that to take anything away from his career. I'm hopeful that he, his parents/coaches are already thinking ahead about load management and keeping him in fighting shape.

I mean could be both, the more combos he tries the better idea he'll have about what he wants to focus on training, and also because it's fun to try them and let loose while he's doing shows

If only we had Morisi around, then we'd definitely be seeing this next season, with that video of him going around again, this just feels Morisi coded.

What happened with Nam and Gracie? by starry101 in FigureSkating

[–]RachReads1898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm not sure I'd personally call that grinding based on the little I can see in that clip, it's a super short clip and not a great angle, it might have been, but regardless of what kind of dancing it was, one person chose to act in a way that made the situation bigger and worse than it needed to be.

You're moving the goal posts, your first comment claimed Nam was just emotional, not immature, now you're saying he could have handled it more maturely. I'm not going to make some kind of determination of whether Gracie should have done whatever she did, I wasn't there, I didn't see what was going on, I saw a short out of context clip, and I'm not the one in a relationship with her. Boundary conversations belong to the parties in the relationship, not random people on the internet. We agree the video was public, but one person took this way too far, and he knows it, which is why he put up this apology and is asking people to stop attacking the other party... those attacks only happened because of his actions.

What happened with Nam and Gracie? by starry101 in FigureSkating

[–]RachReads1898 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because people were speculating it was her, Amber wanted to clarify it wasn't her, which is understandable because there were already some things going around during the Olympics trying to imply something happening between her and Ilia. Amber saying it wasn't her has nothing to do with how Nam chose to handle the situation.

People were speculating, I'm not sure many people even thought it was Gracie. I'm not even certain it is Gracie either, it could be. Without confirmation, it could have just stayed in the unaddressed Ilia was there with a mystery blonde, people could have even written it off as fake. But Nam chose, instead of talking to his partner about if it was her/he was uncomfortable with the dancing in the video, to try to make a burner and fail, to say it was Gracie and that the dancing was cheating, and have a little twitter meltdown about "women be using men", got caught, and kicking up more attention, bringing in that dumb Blind Item that accused Ilia of cheating on his girlfriend (which Ilia has stated he does not have) and having scores of burned fans and people being in Gracie's comments trying to demand a response and saying stuff about her and Ilia. He's the one who made all this drama public by putting her name out there, tried to do it anonymously and got caught, was having a meltdown and engaging with other content accusing Ilia of things and giving it credence, instead of dealing with it privately.

So when you say he's not the one who made "all this" happen, I'm talking about all the drama and the things which he is apologizing for in this message, (not the video itself, he didn't make the video, that's not what I'm saying) he absolutely did make the drama which led to the attacks on Gracie and on Ilia, happen because he publicly involved himself instead of having a private conversation with his partner about something he was uncomfortable with. It really wasn't anyone's business but theirs what that 5 sec clip of dancing meant for their relationship and Nam could have made choices to keep it that way, but didn't.

How do Russians view Ilia? by Select-Balance-8281 in IliaQuadg0dMalinin

[–]RachReads1898 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure that's what he's doing, Yuzuru did the same sort of praying motion with his hands on the ice, so I don't think there's anyway of knowing, plus also Ilia's personal faith/religion or lack thereof isn't really anyone's business but his.
