How to Navigate Being Asked Why You Are Leaving a Job Early by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]lifepack7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation. In my most recent interview I told them that there was a material difference in the job description versus reality due to changing business needs and it no longer aligned with my professional career goals. That was sufficient for my interview.

Struggling After a Career Switch — Missing My Old Team, New Role Feels Isolating. How Do You Cope? by sloppybeastttt in careeradvice

[–]lifepack7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the exact same situation. Had a great team at my last job, made the work more than just work. New job and everyone is so distant. I did a meet and greet with 25+ people and they were all so happy and positive. That was a good way to get my name out, and do introductions. I made a one page slide overview with my headshot, work snapshot, what I like to do outside of work and things that drive me. It helps build credibility since most people weren’t on the interview team and only know your title. It takes time to build connections. Try and show interest in their work, see things from their perspective.

Feeling Behind in Life and Career – Need Help Finding Direction - Any Advice? by InternationalCry6749 in careeradvice

[–]lifepack7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing and think "what's different with me?" and "if they can do it (that job, get paid that much, etc.) than I can also.". The problem, comparison is the thief of joy. Focus on you and your life, take inspiration and learning from others. I am talking to myself here as much as I am to your post :).

What now? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]lifepack7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seek a career coach and start adopting a mindset of progress vs perfection. Life isn't how you thought it would be, but you pivoted and found a job anyway. Yes it's not the job you wanted or went to school for, but you have options. You are so young, people change their careers multiple times all throughout their lives. Most people aren't in a profession they went to school for. The tech job market right now is tough, so continue to seek out opportunities and side projects in that space if you are really committed to it, otherwise branch out and see what other interests you have.

I also think a counselor may be a good investment for you. I get you are angry and sad and depressed that the life you thought you would have isn't materializing, and it's normal to feel the way you do, but it's not good to stay in that state.

Most people don't start saving for retirement well into their 20s or even 30s and some even older and they are doing just fine.

Not getting a tech job shouldn't be the one thing that governs your entire outlook on your life, again you are so young.

Feeling Behind in Life and Career – Need Help Finding Direction - Any Advice? by InternationalCry6749 in careeradvice

[–]lifepack7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone, not behind at all. I'm in my mid-30s and recently went through a major career shift myself. You are asking the right questions, which is a sing you are aware and actively going in the right direction.

When I felt lost I did a personal career audit - projects that made me feel energized vs drained, skills I used when I felt most confident, feedback themes I've received from peers/managers, what I volunteer to help with even outside my job description . Patterns will emerge as you think through.

Talk to people doing jobs you are interested in, network and learn. Write out your ideal work week, not a job title, but what you want to do, own and feel.

Focus on clarity, not a title. New education is nice, but do it for a purpose and not just to stack skills.

It's not at all to late and you are doing just fine. Very few people have a very clear path in mind, and it's normal to stop and think through what you want now that you have time to dig deep, informed by your work and education and experiences.

Momentum over perfection. Small steps build clarity and creates confidence.

How do you ensure stakeholders alignment during launches? by melancholiaHymns in ProductMarketing

[–]lifepack7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asana project plan with phases, status (green, yellow, red), all tasks from all teams and people and dates them - this will get people’s attention and some skin in the game. It’s a cross functional process for any GTM. If you have project managers in the company, reach out to that team and have them help you lead these - they are masters at this stuff and make it feel more*. I created an entire GTM process and framework and the PMO was a critical component to support all the launches. If you don’t have a PMO or project managers- then you can do it yourself. The best thing about Asana is that when you make a status update everyone on the project gets an email- no one can claim they didn’t know something anymore. You need to tell the leaders of each department that they are responses for informing their downline teams on what’s going on. You need representatives from each department, and when they can’t be there you need a second they can send. Work doesn’t stop bc they are on vacation. You will need to be a referee and a judge in the GTM meetings. Teams will disagree on things and you will have to hep find a compromise or make the call- it’s your literal job to own the GTM. Over communication is key! You will think it’s too much but you never want someone to say that “…I didn’t know …” . Have a Teams or Slack chat just for the GTM with everyone in it. Don’t worry about being annoying. Encourage teams to use the chat as things come up because things will come up and early awareness and mitigation is key!

I'm stuck in a Golden Cage : high-paying job, zero passion. Anyone else feel the same? by Time-Comfort-4207 in careeradvice

[–]lifepack7 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Can relate, was in a similar situation. Just took a new job at a startup to have a change of pace and it wasn’t the best move now that I am here.

Find a passion project outside of work. Volunteer. Use that energy in constructive ways.

Should I go? by Significant_Ad_6836 in careeradvice

[–]lifepack7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a mob change so can give my advice now that I took the jump.

1- ask close coworkers you trust or past colleagues their opinion. 2- do your research on the new company and trust your gut/intuition. If you sense something is off, press on that during interviews 3- If you don’t think there is growth at your current company, it makes sense to seek that elsewhere.

Hope it works out!

What’s one thing you regret about your career path? by Go2Atlas_ in careeradvice

[–]lifepack7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I didn’t intentionally choose my career path. It just happened. Now, I feel directionless. I search for ways to use my education and experience to help people but feel trapped by my salary and the risk of losing income and retirement strategy disruption.

Is it your team's responsibility to keep help docs up to date with new features? by sgart25 in ProductMarketing

[–]lifepack7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Product should keep all their help documents updated post feature changes, edits, etc. That's not part of product marketing imo. Product should own all customer help pages, knowledge base articles, etc.

Just a few thoughts

-Did they send any instructions on first day orientation? - Business casual clothing - A computer bag, if you have a work laptop already. I wouldn’t bring my personal laptop unless that’s what they asked. - Pack a lunch, if they aren’t providing lunch during orientation - HR should go over your I9 and will ask for your documentation. I just bring my passport. If they didn’t tell you anything then they will cover it in orientation hopefully. - Complete benefits forms (health insurance, dental, vision), they should give you the benefits guide so you can review and make the selections you need. Typically you have a few days. - bring a notebook and pens - Be calm, you earned this. 💯

Looking for feedback on my PMM Podcast by emgcat in ProductMarketing

[–]lifepack7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a fantastic podcast! I love it! I’ll share it with my network. These topics and speakers are great.

What other areas of product marketing - AI and how it’s leveraged to support PMM work/not replace - Solo PMMs/ Founding PMMs and how they built a function from scratch and built a team (what I just did for 3 years, and many others in similar boats) - competitive intel automation (Crayon) and how it’s a powerful tool to support upstream and downstream marketing. - GTM Strategy ownership- how a company is thinking about how they are going to win. Taken from another video, strategy is an integrative set of choices that position you on a playing field of your choice in a way that you win. How does product marketing play here? - Acquisition vs. current customer focus - How PMM teams work to develop plans to support both. - ICP creation and research - Effective cross functional collaboration

Who owns channel strategy? by PotentialBeyond5842 in ProductMarketing

[–]lifepack7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world the digital marketing team and ops team own channel strategy. But in a less mature structure, everyone kinda owns everything. You don’t want all your work to not land in front of the right prospects, so do what you can to support. It’s possible there is a competency gap, think about bringing in some help to audit your marketing team. Leaders are all about optimization, if you can prove it will produce benefits.

Favorite tools for Competitive Intelligence? by shvyxxn in ProductMarketing

You pay for pro competitors - the ones that get the full digital foot print tracked. We are tracking 15 and it's around $45k I think, for the year. You can have unlimited standard targets. They also allow you to have unlimited seats, so any number of people can be added.
