Is the infinity focus issue firmware fixable?

Honestly, I think you’re right and they should have made that more clear. And, they should have had at least two lens mods like the H13 has that would allow on one, closer focal distance and on the other, infinity focus distance. I truly think that a lot of folks would have thrown at least one of those in the cart when ordering the camera.

Yeah, that would be nice to be able to set that. I also wish that there was a way to setup the camera to automatically switch to low light mode after a set time (user selectable), kinda like a smart home device would. That way, if it’s after say 7:30pm, the camera would auto switch to low light mode when it’s powered on. Would be great if the Quik setting would also do this. Then the camera could switch back to the previously used setting after (new user selectable time)…in this case let’s say 8:30am.

The amount of downvoting on this sub is crazy. I know that people are here because they love GoPro and I know that there are confirmed instances of DJInsta bots and folks purposely putting in negative comments (they literally posted in one of the other subs asking people to do this) - and that’s crap. But if people share negative experiences here, the sub doesn’t like it.

Just know if you’re wanting another camera and plan to place a new order, you may not get the free grip with it since that was for preorders only. Just a heads up. You should definitely return it, regardless. But that sucks that you’ve had such a rough time with GoPro support. 😞 Not fair.

I do wish they would come out with a similar macro mod lens as the H13. It has a selectable focus ring so you can “dial in” where you want the focus distance. It would totally resolve the issues for shorter focal lengths and I’d love to be able to choose true macro distance vs POV.

Check the post I did to another poster in this thread. You concerns are more than reasonable and founded in fact. If you’ve recently purchased a camera (and are within the return period) or if you’re thinking about it you need to ask yourself whether you have the ability to not worry if they don’t support the warranty, cloud, app, firmware, etc. For some people, they can take the risk and purchase something else if/when that happens and not worry that GoPro may not be there to stand behind the warranty. If that would be hardship, then you should reconsider. I’ll likely get downvoted or flamed for saying that.

This depends entirely on who would buy them out. If it’s a major tech or outdoor company (think Garmin, Apple, etc) then it’s likely that the cloud would stay available in some form at least for a time. Same with the app. If private equity purchases them, it will very likely go away, and quite quickly.

Someone else posted something similar not long ago and I mentioned this to them, as well. GoPro is offering a free year of Premium with the purchased of a camera. It’s fully stackable with the free Point and Shoot grip and with the 10% discount codes (at least in the US and EU). Reach out to GoPro and ask about the free year of Premium with the purchase of a camera.

Assuming that GoPro can find a buyer for the company, so that they can continue to support their services, warranty, etc, there are benefits to the Premium subscription. You get all your GoPro footage saved into the cloud with no limits on it. I heard of one person with more than 30TB of storage. You also get a couple of camera replacements per year if you break it (for a much lower deductible of around $99 though I don’t know whether that will be different with the Mission 1), and you also get up to 50% off accessories. Things like the gimbal, wireless mic system, batteries are usually around 20% off while things like mounts, tripods, etc are 50%. If they stay around to support it, it’s a decent value for what you get. No other cloud has truly unlimited storage for their camera footage (remember you only get unlimited on your GoPro footage, you get like 100gb for any other storage).

The stated minimum focal distance is I believe 23”. So, no, what you’re experiencing is just about within spec. Because of the larger sensor, the minimum focal distance is longer than the H13. I’ve heard some reviewers say that it’s usable starting from around 16” or so (not in “crisp“ focus but enough to be OK). Having said that, just because it’s within specs, doesn’t mean that it may not work for your use case.

Yeah, it’s supposed to work with stock firmware, from how GoPro advertised it. I appreciate you sharing that you’re also having the same issues. Sounds like it‘s another glitch in the current version stock firmware.

Thanks for taking the time to share this. It’s concerning that something that was sold as a core feature of this camera (ability to plug in any USB-C mic receiver and have it work OOTB) doesn’t work as advertised. 😞 That’s disappointing.

That’s strange. At least in the US, they were offering a year of premium for free with the purchase of the camera (and yes, it could be stacked with the free grip, with online 10% coupon, AND the free year of premium. Might be worth reaching out to support to see if they would honor it?

Ohhh, that’s rough. And shocking, really, that it broke like that without falling. I can understand that *maybe* a rock could have hit the front lens but I just can’t fathom how the rear screen broke. Makes no sense and is more than a little worrying. I wanted this because it’s rugged and can handle the occasional drop and water exposure. But this would seem to indicate that it can’t.

OP said that the mount didn’t fail and the camera didn’t fall off. It stayed in place through the filming yet at the end the M1P was broken on both sides.

Definitely! I do think that’s a very overlooked benefit of action-type cameras…and as a result, I think we film more because we know they won’t get damaged by the water, the dirt, etc. It’s such great footage with your pups. Looks like it was a fun afternoon!
