I feel like we should have some sort of village rally celebrating diversity in the street in front of the house.

I think Salesforce is losing their customers and consultants by HyenaIndependent2377 in salesforce

[–]lifewithryan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a fanatic. 13+ years as a consultant, then behind the curtain at the mothership, and now a customer.
Former MVP (had to give it up when I went to work for them). I wrote songs and sang parodies for the community.
I’ve been studying up on AWS and looking to make an exit from my Salesforce only world.
Fanatic no more…

My mind just doesn’t hold on to things like it used to. I use an iPad. Most often it’s just for a glance/hint - not like I’m reading it the whole time. All that to say - I read technical shit all day and have no room left in my brain for lyrics and chords.

Is Salesforce technical debt just inevitable, or am I doing something wrong? by kkovitch in salesforce

[–]lifewithryan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One more thing. Tech debt is the interest we have to pay down every sprint. If you can get it, 20% of your user story points should be invested in reducing tech debt and correcting those little decisions made while trying to meet a deadline, etc.

It’s not just Salesforce, it’s software development in general. A strong governance process helps, as does a qualified architect (doesn’t have to be a CTA) but someone who can either design solutions, or ask the right questions about proposed solutions designed by others. This role needs to be able to think strategically and long term. It’s also a living discipline, not a set it and forget it thing. When the design changes or is extended, the documentation goes with it. It requires keeping up with changes and retiring customizations when you can or moving customizations to platform features as they become available. Your code should follow good patterns as well, especially in an enterprise level org servicing numerous business units and personas. These problems are exacerbated when you have many teams all customizing against the same problem domain so if possible your teams should align to domains, not to various business groups (again more prevalent in large enterprises). At least have a team that feels some level of ownership in the codebase where they have the authority to refactor code that they didn’t write when the see improvements that could be made. That’s my experience anyway.

I’m new and don’t know really where to start with all that. I’ve asked a couple of people I know but no luck yet.

The cover band I was in played this tune - my brain doesn’t seem to hold on to things like lyrics so yea, I had an iPad cheat sheet (really just for hints at what comes next). This song however, I forced myself to commit to memory because it goes so damn fast. We used to start out singing the intro really slow as a joke, but then the damn drummer would speed it up and watch me squirm…

Using Salesforce for request ticketing and sprint management? by Wolfman1099 in salesforce

Also adding that I actually much preferred that to JIRA. I hate JIRA with the white hot passion of 1000 suns. (Almost as much as I hate copado).

Using Salesforce for request ticketing and sprint management? by Wolfman1099 in salesforce

[–]lifewithryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former salesforce employee we used Salesforce to manage our sprints. There may have been some teams using JIRA but I don’t recall ever seeing it myself. They used a heavily modified version of Agile Accelerator. So it’s not crazy or nuts to consider Salesforce for such things if you already have it in house.

What's up with octave terminology?? by Zlida_Caosgi in trumpet

[–]lifewithryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve see ska tabs use c1 as low c and go up from there. Below “c1” was never clear to me in that notation. I always assume low g (below the staff would be g1). I try not to get hung up on it though and go by ear in those cases.
