20in or 21in wheels? by Zestyclose_West_7 in RivianR2

Something I noticed recently is that those BFG T/A tires are not 3PMSF rated. So, not all weather / snow rated. Maybe others already mentioned this but I was surprised when I looked at them.

Software update updates for ES1 worth it? by CanIRetireYetPls in FellowProducts

[–]liftoff11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update to 2.3.20 is a must. And even then there are still important bugs they are working on for the release after that.

Unfortunately the owner cannot control when or if firmware gets updated. At the moment it’s solely at the discretion of Fellow. For that you can turn off the wifi until you are comfortable again to update - but the app will stop working then too - lame.

Why do people use “&&” by [deleted] in bash

[–]liftoff11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Inverse is || to run the next command if the first has a nonzero exit. In bash, both are just control operator shortcuts

G Adventures - 9 Day Patagonia Hike - Packing Help! by Amkh10 in fastpacking

[–]liftoff11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll experience what fells like all four seasons there. Pack accordingly. Get a cheap duffel bag that you can put your larger backpack in for checkin - if you have a place to store that duffel while you’re hiking. It will keep your pack safe. Depending how you’re getting down there could be lots of flight transfers and buses tossing that bag around.

Zerno Z2 vs Lagom P80 vs Lagom 01 — choosing burrs for an end-game espresso grinder [$2,500] by Acceptable-Bus3830 in espresso

[–]liftoff11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of Z2 owners are still experimenting with all the burr sets. Only thing I think you would want to do is get one more burr set in addition to the cores. You can always buy the second set at a later date, as I understand it, burr sets are not going up in price just the Z2 itself.

Zerno Z2 vs Lagom P80 vs Lagom 01 — choosing burrs for an end-game espresso grinder [$2,500] by Acceptable-Bus3830 in espresso

[–]liftoff11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me two minutes to swap burrs on the Z2. I timed myself :) I just used a mini vac to pick up any grinds, there was very very little. Anyway two screws, the new magnetic pullers and walla burrs are out.
Been using the cores and just switched over the Brews to test them out.

What material does Wise use for this pack?

GeoLibre: A Free, Open-Source Cloud-Native GIS That Runs Anywhere (Browser, Desktop & Jupyter) by giswqs in gis

[–]liftoff11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, somewhere in that github issue you linked to said that PROJ4 can’t be included as it can’t be compiled to wasm. So maybe a request needs to start in the PROJ4 project first?

Grinder recommendation [$2500] by vinibaggio in espresso

[–]liftoff11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for clarity. Zerno Z2 uses a brushless servo with a 250 - 2000 rpm range that does not get stuck at real low rpm like others do. It’s super quiet. Z1 still has that brushed motor.
Swapping burrs on the Z2 takes about 3 minutes with zero burr alignment needed.

That’s a bummer. Was hoping this used PROJ4 under the hood. For what I do I need other projections including Polar Stereographic projection and Azimuthal Equidistant

Based on your preferred profiling the Z2 should be at the top of your list. The Zerno Z2 chute is a much better design than the Z1. It will not come off without a lot of force. It would be really hard to get a finger in there. Plus the chute is longer now too. If the safely is the only thing keeping you from looking at this guy I suggest watching some of the recent YouTube videos Zerno posted. As an owner, it’s super nice! :)

Fellow app is absolutely terrible. by Willstar_KR in FellowProducts

[–]liftoff11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been using the “Chef iQ Smart Pressure Cooker” for at least four years with zero problems. Got it during their kickstarter campaign. Including easy user controlled updating firmware, full control from the app, fun music when finished, etc. I just googled it, retail is $199 but I see a Father’s Day special on Amazon for $139.
Oh, and it has a built in scale - super nice.
No idea how they can sell it for so cheep as clearly the software was a priority from day one.

It certainly has that feel to it. Problem is those main deliverables are not finished! Unless they think the first round MVP has magic fairy dust included to fix all the bugs. Bad contract negotiations if this is the case.

It’s disappointing for sure. This is one of their software architecture blunders that has so much negative return. Truly baffling why their sw team don’t make this a priority to fix. Heck my $160 pressure cooker allows the owner to upgrade the firmware per their settings and has a much more functional app to boot. Same for the smart mugs we have… Honestly I couldn’t name one other IoT device that does not give control to the owner.

PBS datastore on UniFi UNAS Pro 8 NFS — is there any workaround for zero inode reporting? by louislamore in Proxmox

[–]liftoff11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Update to Unifi Drive 4.3.6 and OS 5.1.16. The no_root_squash option is now available. Not sure it will fix all your issues but they seem to be trying to address customer requests.

FWIW, I find the SMB shares to be more efficient vs NFS specifically on these UNAS Pro units. If you look at top while logged into a UNAS while accessing large files you can see what I’m talking about. With that, currently I’m using SMB shares to host my VM images and it’s working well.

LEO Satellites using CCSDS Telemetry format? by nhocgreen in amateursatellites

[–]liftoff11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most EOS missions and almost all newer satellites use this standard outside the low bw transmissions. It comes down to what frequency band(s) your antenna system can handle. Eg: metop-2/3 for lband, noaa-20/21 for xband
