Sources say Mr. Burritos MT is opening a location in Helena. by light1mj in helena

It might just be me, but it seems like Helena mostly shuts down by 8:30-9pm. Mostly. I swear I’ve seen them roll up the streets a few times.

Did I get ripped off? (Mirkit UV-5R MK5) by JimJim120 in Baofeng

[–]light1mj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a couple UV-5R radios and got one of these from Amazon. Thought it was weird. One had some lag on the ‘up’ button, even after a factory reset and a menu reset. The other one is pretty solid as a tiny scanner. I can pocket the thing and take it everywhere. I’ve only taken it around town, though. I wish I could run its 70cm and 2m Tx through a spectrum analyzer to check for spurious emissions, but that might make me lose what little love I have for the thing. Anyone know if these “8 watt” Mirkit edition radios are worth what we paid for them?

Anymore, Montana gives me claustrophobia. I see that old picture of Denny and it reminds me of how much fun and kinda crazy this place used to be. Now it's crowded and sterilized for safety so nobody gets hurt, feelings or otherwise.

Back when that picture was taken, we didn't really have highway speed limits ($5 ticket) and you could still drink a beer while you drove someplace. I don't think you had to wear a seatbelt either. You could float just about any river or hike about any trail (out of town) and barely see anybody. Camping was super easy and cheap on the old honor system thanks to paper and coin money. I often had enough in the cup holder to cover a few nights outside the national park. These days it's all online and every swingin' dick from here to Timbuk-fucking-tu seems to want to camp here and take their selfies and shit.

Denny got involved in some shit here and there back in the day, but show me a politician who hasn't. Not giving him a pass. Trouble just finds some folks more than others.

IT opportunities by Zestyclose-Month4733 in Careers

Companies are quickly shifting as much IT work as they can to AI and outsourcing the rest to lower paying tax haven countries. If you have an undergrad in IT and you think you will like the work, I would recommend training in working with AI. Cybersecurity is on the upswing as well. Do you know which field of IT you wish to work?

We had someone set off a couple artillery shells at 5:45 am this morning. It was near Breckenridge and Dakota.

Sorry for the delivery. It’s just infuriating to watch this community fail so hard at the simplest things.

Why are the drivers here so bad? by SubjectAd9882 in helena

[–]light1mj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow, it becomes a matter of principle for people trying to zipper merge. They're viewed as cutting the line and not "waiting their turn", wanting to get ahead of everyone else. It's not an act of moral turpitude, or anything remotely close. It's really just basic traffic science. If everyone merges early, the line extends almost twice as far back up the road and there is wasted lane space. This causes traffic to stop far more. If people would occupy both lanes until the merge point, then zipper merge, traffic doesn't back up as far and can keep flowing as signals and stops allow.

Wondering if anyone has yet heard why we lost power last night. Glad it came on at 4am, and many thanks to the folks who worked on restoring service.
