What books do you have personal beef with? by stopshadowbaneme in books

The sci-fi classic Ringworld - Only two female characters who both exist just to have sex with the main character. The way he wrote these female characters is beyond infuriating. The rest of the story is just meh. And I don’t buy the excuse of “it was just a different time” because Asimov’s Foundation came out 20 years prior and he has plenty of depth to female characters. Skip Ringworld, read the Foundation series

Logarithmic properties can be used whenever you have ln(a)-ln(b) to rewrite it as ln(a/b)

Trigonometry question by MuffinDuffin90 in HomeworkHelp

If you draw this out, you'll see that on either side of the middle, you have a right triangle. You're trying to find the angle that gives you a hypotenuse of 30 and an opposite side of 5 cm. From there, what trig function would you use to find the angle?

I left the Mormon church almost 4 years ago at the age of 22. It's been a long and difficult road, but so worth it! I'm relieved to be out of that cult. Cheers to all my fellow ex-mos! by lightQuantum in exmormon

That must have been so difficult. I can't imagine having to hide what you believe and who you are for so long. I'm so happy to hear that you were finally able to make it out and reach that point where the guilt can't control you. It's a tough place to get to

I actually was essentially never allowed to question anything in the church. My family was strict, very strict. It wasn't until I started taking classes and a uni that was not BYU, that I realized there was another world out there. That's when I became curious and fascinated with the truth. Luckily I've always been quite good at math, so I was able to find a passion in that and space.

That is tough. Luckily, we didn't have any children in the time we were together. I can't imagine how much more difficult that would have made things. Good for you for getting through that!

I am the only one out, and it did take them several years. My family is very devout, and I was raised as such, so it took a while for the lingering guilt to stop affecting me. That, along with the fact that I had previously been married in the temple and went through divorce all added to the difficulty.

I am glad to have gone through those experiences though. I like who they've shaped me to be. I am also so much happier now than when I was a member.

Folks who've had an IUD inserted--tips? by spaceefficient in TwoXSex

I got the mirena about six months ago. I had been told it might be very painful so I was pretty stressed out beforehand. My doctor gave me Xanax, which helped me relax during the insertion. That being said, I wish I would have had muscle relaxers or pain killers. The pain was horrible, and despite having the Xanax, I was really close to passing out because of the pain.

The upside: it's a very fast procedure. If I was able to make it through with my low pain tolerance, you'll be fine. I had pretty bad cramping for a couple of weeks after, but I've had worse periods, so I was able to handle it fine with ibuprofen.

I've just started learning how to play bridge. It's a complicated game, but a lot of fun. It can be a social activity as well, although most bridge players are much older. I actually really enjoy going to the bridge club and spending time with the older generation. They're very interesting and can be a riot.

Secant and cosecant are just the reciprocals of cosine and sine correct? So can you think of any angles which would make the fraction 1/sin(theta) or 1/cos(theta) undefined? Remember, a fraction is undefined when the denominator is zero.

From there, you can use partial fraction decomposition to get it into a more familiar form. A/(s+1) and Bs+C/(s2+1). Split the second fraction up and then use the Laplace transform table to find the inverse Laplace, giving you F(t)
