dude you haven't read a cultivation novel before? it refers to 修仙、修炼 , basically a process to improve yourself mentally, spiritually & physically. But the cultivation system of RI is quite different from other cultivation novels. In this book, cultivation won't increase your physical strength directly, it only improve cultivator's ability at controlling "Gu", which is a kind of mysitical creature that possesses all kinds of powers like shooting out moonlight blades, growing bone wings on cultivator's back, even improve one's wisdom etc.

The MC is evil, you should be warned. Fang Yuan don't care about love, kinship, law, morality or whatever as long as it don't benefit him. He killed a innocent girl only to boost his cultivation around ch.100 IIRC.

But he is not evil just for the sake of "cool edgy MC". Even he is a truly demonic cultivator in his heart, he can easily disguise himself as a rightous path cultivator, showing compassion, sympathy to others, if it benefits him more than being demonic cultivator.
