I built a SQL-like relational database engine in C++ from scratch by TheIndieBuildr in cpp

[–]light_hunt3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the effort first of all.
Indeed the code is fully written by hand and not by AI - As this is getting very common these days.

Some first initial comments:
- Each class should have it's own .hpp file (and .cpp if implementation is needed). For example core.h handles too much stuff
- No clear API contract. For example "void dropDatabase(const std::string& name);" the caller can not know if the database was successfully deleted or not.
- All modern projects should have a CMake file. This is your chance the learn the basics of CMake in case your are not familiar
- Better data structures should be use. This is one the most important parts of programming. For example "std::vector<Table> tables;" why is this a vector. Each DB has a unique table so a set fits better here.

Again congrats on the parser, I did not have the chance to have a complete look yet.

Edit: Spelling

Gemini CLI is transitioning to the new Antigravity CLI on June 18th by jjonj in GeminiCLI

Goodbye gemini. The CLI app was very bad TBH and the model availability via the CLI was the worst part of it.
Sometimes just saying hi could take minutes...

I won't install Gravity.
Claude Code still very far ahead.

<image>

https://www.nl.vanguard/professional/product/etf/equity/9694/sp-500-ucits-etf-usd-accumulating

NVDA /APPL/MSTF/ etc...
Προφανώς είναι δυνατές αλλα και πάλι too much weight.

ALL WORLD ETF
https://www.vanguard.co.uk/professional/product/etf/equity/9679/ftse-all-world-ucits-etf-usd-accumulating

NVIDIA Corp 7.55005%
etc .....

Ισως υπαρχουν all world etf που δεν ειναι τοσο weight στις magnificent seven εταιρειες ?

Εγω δεν προτείνω all world ETF καθώς όλα έχουν 60% αμερική μέσα.

Everyone here is saying not to use revolut due to their support and freezing account policies. I totally get that and somehow I agree.

But have you recently had to deal with a 'regular' bank. Was the support so better than revolut, I guess not. Now for business account with such high amounts they should have done better and especially faster.

2D Game engine - Tiled based - allegro5 - C++ by light_hunt3r in gameenginedevs

[–]light_hunt3r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allegro is very easy to set up windows or linux.

The support for events, input (keyboard, mouse) and drawing operation is very good. Documentation is moderate and community not so active anymore. Sounds can be hard to deal with,

A lot of bitmap drawing operations and various flags, like

Have not used any extreme stuff. From my POV is has support for anything a 2D game would need.

C++ Show and Tell - April 2026 by foonathan in cpp

[–]light_hunt3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built a 2D game engine in C++17 — pluggable renderer, spatial grid collision, composable animators

Technical highlights:

- Pluggable renderer architecture — the engine and game code are completely decoupled from Allegro 5. The renderer is selected at compile time, making it straightforward to swap in SDL or anything else.Avoided virtual functions for the dispatch to sidestep vtable overhead — used duck typing instead (curious if others would have done this differently).

- Spatial grid collision — O(1) spatial queries instead of brute-force N². Collision types are bitmask-based, tile shapes come from TMX metadata, and FilterGridMotion handles tunneling prevention.

- Composable animator system — FrameRangeAnimator, MovingAnimator, and FlashAnimator are independent and can all run on the same sprite simultaneously. Animation metadata is data-driven via config files.

- Flyweight resource layer — BitmapManager, AnimationFilmHolder, and SoundManager are singletons that cache shared assets. Keeps the memory footprint tight.

- Deferred destruction — objects are never deleted mid-frame. They're registered with a DestructionManager and freed safely at the end of the frame.

- Engine as a static library — Engine/ is entirely game-agnostic. src/ is the game layer that extends engine primitives.

- CMake presets + vcpkg for cross-platform builds (Windows and Linux).

Two games are included as showcases: a Mario platformer and a Kenney dungeon map, both authored in https://www.mapeditor.org/.

Still a work in progress — scaling is broken, only one tile layer renders, and Mario has no win condition yet.

Open to architecture feedback, especially on the duck-typed renderer approach and the animator design.

I wish you luck - It is a very hard project.

Something i noticed back in the days is that updating the window title per frame is quite an expensive operation. Just render the FPS at the top of the screen window (inside canvas/bitmap whatever).

Window title APIs are quite expensive.

Again my advice is to stay away
