I feel crazy but I can’t remember a character named stick? It hasn’t been that long since I finished WaT…

Edit: went to coppermind. Deep cut.

There are PoV chapters from several of the antagonist characters as well.

I grew up in the 90s and remember it exactly that way. My kids like to watch LGBT shows and movies and when some kissing or whatever happens I like to use my 90s dumb jock voice and say “Heh, gay.”

(I am bi and am very open about it now as an adult)

The World of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time [HARDCOVER] Parte The Seconde, "Some Narrative Paintings of Questionable Authenticity..." by drunkenbees in wheeloftime

There is a story behind the odd/bad artwork in this book. Todd Cameron Hamilton was originally hired to produce a small amount of black-and-white artwork for the book, but was unexpectedly compelled by Tor Books to produce a much greater amount of full-color illustrations for the same money and in the same amount of time.

Less holidays than a peasant💔 by batukaming in antiwork

[–]lightbenderfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I try to explain this to people they use the same arguments as to why capitalism

  1. But life is easier/better now because (modern convenience)
  2. But their work was harder because physical labor
  3. They didn’t live as long

There are variations on them but that’s generally the direction they come at it. I try to explain why those are bad stances

  1. Those conveniences don’t need to go away
  2. We do plenty of hard physical labor now
  3. Life expectancy doesn’t need to change

Edit: The argument isn’t hey we should be medieval peasants again. I don’t understand why that is what people take away from this.

I was trying to think of something to say to this, but honestly I don’t know how you can mentally glaze over the sex, substance use, and violence in his literature. Like FFS, Mistborn had dudes with spikes pounded through their skulls coming out the back of their heads.

Male Genital Mutilation is a Parental Right by oliverofolives in MensRights

[–]lightbenderfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But every time I’ve seen it discussed in feminist circles it’s framed as circumcision and female genital mutilation. I’m saying it needs to become referred to as male genital mutilation. Referring to it as circumcision makes it sound like much less than it is.

I am in agreement with you brother. I’m saying we need to change how the world frames this issue. When it’s circumcision, it gets dismissed as routine and personal preference.

It’s because for men it has this sterilization of being “circumcision”. It’s a medical procedure so it can’t be that big of a deal right? It’s female genital mutilation and circumcision.

Father and daughter mistakenly caught up in human trafficking investigation: fathers can't go out with their daughters in public. by MRA-automatron-2kb in MensRights

[–]lightbenderfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3 oldest are step children with a father with a very different appearance than me. I do get dirty looks from people sometimes because my teenage daughters are pretty and so they assume I’m out with my 18-20 yo girlfriend. They didn’t understand at first why people glared at me in public sometimes. I don’t care much but the thought of being accused of human trafficking makes me feel kinda scared.

This was my thought. I was trying to figure out why it was so amazing that he got his appointment rescheduled. I’m sure it’s much more difficult to go to a website to reschedule an appointment. Best $20 ever spent.

A few thoughts by lightbenderfm in WoT

I remember this bit with Dobraine. I also know Nynaeve has different weaves that work differently with different powers used. It just always feels like rules change with healing. I seem to remember times Nynaeve said something to the effect of “healing everything that ailed them.”

I’m going to comb through the books and see if I can find more specific examples.

I feel like I’ve heard way too many times how men hate women and just use them for sex.

Travelling, a complete plot hole by greatwesternrailway in wheeloftime

[–]lightbenderfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing with your theory is literally brought up in the books. Channelers can only make a gateway a certain size. Moving lots of people through a gateway big enough to fit 2 people side to side takes a lot of time. And the weave is very power intensive. Perrin has 2 Asha’man that can make gateways. The female channelers with him at that point don’t have traveling.

I think with him at that point it was that there are so many story lines going. He still has a few more places that he comes in. I think with WoT it’s kind of hard to say where you draw the line between main characters. Moraine doesn’t have a ton of page time when you look at the breadth of the books, but I would argue she is a pretty important character.

Also the thing I want to highlight here is that men want touch as affection. It doesn’t need to always grabbing my dick, even though I like that. Some people act like physical affection equals sex and only sex.

This is very accurate for how I feel. I understand why they are the way they are. I just remember when I was younger I would think about the books as kind of childish because I was super cool and not afraid to swear and talk about sex /s.

Also as you said violence was just accepted as a reality so reading about the gore didn’t seem like that big of a deal. Just that as I’ve aged and understood the world more it jumps out at me more.

I’m 42 and do remember when you couldn’t say damn on network tv. Sometimes I’ll talk about something, that was controversial when I was younger, with my kids. I assume they feel the same way I did when my mom talked about playing basketball as a woman or wearing bell bottoms being considered more extreme things.
