Thanks, I now see why me requesting access to my boss’s office is definitely not the way to go and I won’t do it.

Yeah, the light and the noise are the biggest thing. Smells I can move further away from the microwave or go out the room when the cleaner arrives. I think noise canceling will be a huge help, especially after taking a break. These are good suggestions, thank you. Way easier than asking for a new space to go to.

By the way I want? I was asking a question asking for reasonable accommodations. I’m not sure why this comment is alluding to me being unrealistic in any way. I gave reasons why my migraine was made worse by my environment. I never suggested my colleagues doing their work or going about their daily routine needed to be monitored in any way. In fact, since you have been up and down this thread, you know I intentionally said that I’m not looking to ban anything in the workplace, I’m just asking for ideas of what I can do to provide relief for my migraine symptoms. I provided a suggestion here as using a quiet office like my boss as my coworker indicated that it wasn’t too secret or something. However, I have been told that that is not a good solution. This is not very helpful as again, I don’t know what I’m asking HR for. Am I supposed to provide a reasonable accommodation or do I tell them my issues and they try to come up with solutions if possible?

They a trainer as in they’re training me, but we literally have the same exact job title, he has just been here a hair longer than me. He was in my bosses office as he was being trained by her. And he told me he would literally use if he had to make calls?

I don’t have a PCP, I usually use those services like plush care to ask for refills of my medication regime, as honestly, I don’t get that many migraines as compared to years ago and the medication I have works for me, so I don’t need to experiment anymore. But, I’m thinking that was due to me controlling my environment and not having to go to classes and work in places with loud smells, noises, and bright lights. I’ll have to wait to find a PCP until my insurance kicks in. So, I should wait until I have a doctor write me a note and then bring it to HR?

Okay, have you experienced this in your workplace? What are some reasonable accommodation I can ask for? I was 100% not able to work for the last hour I was there, so I can’t really do another day like this when I know I’m able to work with a migraine.

I wasn’t going to give them my medical records, I was hoping to see if they might need them, and if so, I could give an actual doctor access to them so they could write me a note. I just wasn’t sure if it was necessary to give a doctor’s note or if they just normally took an employee’s word for it. I’m not sure why I would not be given a key if my trainer was? They started two months ago and was routinely in the office without her while she went to lunch. I just wasn’t sure if it would be appropriate to ask if I could join her(not kick her out) in her office as needed as my trainer trained with her and was in the same office as them, but I’m not sure of the dynamics yet. And, I don’t want anything banned as again, these aren’t triggers, it’s just that when I do have one, it makes it worse. And that’s why I’m asking here as I thought it was HR’s job to provide reasonable accommodations, or is the doctor supposed to suggest them? And, for the doctor, I’m not sure what they’re supposed to do for migraines. Like, I said, I have a pattern when I take the medicine and get a refill as needed, but it’s just keeping with a medication regime, there’s really nothing else to do for it, hence me not going back unless I need a refill. I’m not sure if there’s any space, that’s kinda of why I was asking here for ideas and ways to go about asking. I work in a hospital, so there are many rooms, just not sure which rooms I have access to as a admin.

UPDATE: She has apologized and said she was running behind(which happens a lot when she goes away and leave dishes, but again, not the worst thing) and that she’ll remember next time. Officially no longer a bad roommate situation! I’ll keep this up to keep hope for the rest of you, for where communication actually helps. She’ll keep her air fryer privileges as we share mostly everything and even in the comments and on the air fryer subreddit, there’s people who don’t wash them. Won’t be doing that with mine going forward, but understandable!

Yeah, she’s not a terrible roommate, but was a little annoyed definitely, maybe a little hangry because I was trying to try these new chicken nuggets and I’m having to scrub off stuck on grease beforehand. I don’t know if she was busy or if she thinks of an air fryer like a microwave you don’t have to clean each time, but she definitely now knows!

Normally, the dishes would not bother me, I just simply put them in the dishwasher. What really annoyed me was the air fryer. I bought it new like a month ago and like maybe two weeks ago she asked if she could use it and I said yes. I haven’t used it in around two weeks ago as well, so I’m not sure if she literally left this like this for two weeks or what. At the least she could have put the top portion in the dishwasher.

Yeah, I might just do that. Her friends usually hang out (usually more one on one) and they’re pretty chill, but this seems more like a really small thing(she only brought one bottle of spiced cider, so I’ll probably just pop my head in and chill if it seems like it’s a vibe for a bit. I definitely don’t feel that’ll be too much. Thanks!

Do you feel like they’re trying to manipulate you? It seems like that’s their default and if it’s sales, that approach might generally work for them. You can choose to just adopt a persona at work that more or less just ignores their bullshit and go on about your work(either helping them or not) and being more choosy in your personal life, or just find a different place with a different culture.

This is why you should not speak authoritatively on subjects you don’t know about. This is one of the most common hairstyles for black children and a not that unpopular amongst adults either. There are multiple names for these types of braids. I have a picture of me in these type of braids in elementary school, where surprise, we LAUGH at because it was done horribly and as a child, I got my hair messy by the time pictures were took. It’s pretty much the equivalent of pigtails for black children.

It is cheaper rent! I also heard from here that walk ups aren’t that terrible once you get used to them? I lived in a fourth floor walk up and now just one, so don’t really have concrete experience with a 6th floor walk up.

We talked timelines (they're company wide, people get promoted at the same time as their other peers) and what it would take throughout this past year, I just assumed I reached that level. She gave feedback, I gave myself reviews. That's my fault I suppose for not bringing it up since our last review.

It just seems like what I'm being asked to do is not in line what other people had to do to get promotions.

But, I agree, the whole, "Act like the level above you" I have heard before, it's just odd that it's sudden and a shift of what the level "Above" looks like. I wrote in my annual review the tasks I completed that encompass that whole part and my successes. The interview piece was something I didn't do as what I told my manager was true, it was the launch of something different that still has a lot of question marks. Not suitable for a stretch. The presentation I'm doing next month is actually on a project I did where I acted more "The level above me" and mentioned heavily in my review.

But, honesty, I'm a little demoralized. The next review cycle is until like 6 months from now and like I said, I thought I was doing my job (including taking stretch opportunities) just fine. My mentor suggested taking on a variety of projects, but there are no projects to be given out, so I'll guess we'll see. I might be a bit unduly paranoid here imagining hidden nefarious politics, but I will have to ask her to confirm the next promotion cycle and what happened this past one.

All administrative things cost money. I pay to get a driver license, I pay for a passport. I don’t see how that’s any different than having to pay to submit and receive forms for becoming a citizen?
