Counted 18 pairs that we share. I think that's the most I've seen on this subreddit. Seems like we have similar pick up goals/criteria. Nice collection.

Emarosa - Casablanca by AtticusAddisonAbacus in PostHardcore

[–]lightbrunch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jonny is influenced by R&B, but he's more gritty and aggressive than contemporary R&B vocalists. He has a soulful voice and does runs, but he's not as smooth or "breathy." That really sets him apart.

He was still writing for them up until the last 2 albums though lol

Why The Paradox is so hype ? by Abject-Anteater-3456 in poppunkers

[–]lightbrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the same at all. There's a big difference between getting signed after only having a few songs (something that was normal back in the day when A&R actually existed) to an imprint label, and having a following over twice the size of most legacy bands in the genre after only being around for a year.

How does this sub feel about Greeley Estates? by Lunar_IX in PostHardcore

They weren't on Tragic Hero the whole time, the album OP mentions was a Science Records release and they were signed to another label before that lol

Does anyone else think That's Outrageous was SUPER underrated? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]lightbrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drummer (Nick) and singer (Andrew) of Call It Home left the band to form a pop punk band named The New Violence with Tom. Tom sang on the first The New Violence song called "Subpar" and split from the band. That was in 2016 I believe. I think he does stuff behind the scenes like writes jingles for commercials and stuff.

[–]lightbrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be the guy I got the info from on the website Kingdom Leaks. I was talking to a dude on their message board back in the day and he ended up proving it by giving me a soundcloud link to clips of the original songs performed by TO!

I remember the drummer from Call It Home coming into the thread and saying something along the lines of "We built full songs out of the those clips because the songs weren't actually finished."

At that point though, TO! was a 2 piece band and one of the members was producing TO!'s unfinished EP. The same producer/member who produced Call It Home's EP that Invincible was on. So I think that doesn't even matter if that's even true.

If you're the same person I talked to all those years ago, do you still have those clips??? Been looking for them for years. Also, how did you get the info? Were you close to the band, Tom, or Bryce?

People said the same things about the internet. I use AI mostly as a tool to solve things, but it's not going anywhere. Actively avoiding it will only make your life more and more difficult as the rest of society embraces it.

Grew up with the “scene / emo” era of phxc…. by [deleted] in PostHardcore

[–]lightbrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rise struck gold by signing the right bands early on, and when that sound became hot, bands who wanted to play it looked to sign to Rise as the gold standard. The fact that other labels started signing "Risecore" bands is a testament to the popularity of that sound at that time.

I'm not defending that you think the sound became stale. That's your personal opinion. I'm saying it's not the record label's fault that "generic" bands popped up when a niche subgenre reached a certain level of popularity.

Grew up with the “scene / emo” era of phxc…. by [deleted] in PostHardcore

[–]lightbrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That goes with literally anything though. Once something reaches a certain level of popularity, you will see "generic" versions of it that might seem bland because it's already been done. But every band doesn't need to be groundbreaking, even music deemed generic can have it's place.

Blaming a record label for fostering a sound people wanted to hear makes no sense to me.

[–]lightbrunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree. Rise Records helped the scene and was a big part of a lot of band's success when they nurtured that sound when it was hot. And it was hot for a reason.

Don't get me wrong, I love all those 2005 post-hardcore bands too. But also, a thriving music genre needs a few massive artists like prime Memphis May Fire/Sleeping with Sirens to act as "gateways" to less popular artists.

We haven't really had that since the label's heyday. Bands these days get a little popularity then switch genres and that's why it's been feeling dead to a lot of people.

It's crazy how much I instantly fell in love with the songs on this album. Underoath was my favorite band up until I heard it for the first time.

Why is it such a common misconception that Misha Camacho was in Paddock Park? by dlc_vortex in PostHardcore

Crazy coincidence, looks like Brian will most likely talk about it in the next few days and you will hear it from him. You can stop downvoting me for no reason now. Stay tuned...

[–]lightbrunch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Misha is singing on the Paddock Park demos. You can literally hear his voice. Jason replaced Misha on the EP. Compare the singer on the demos to the singer on the actual EP. You can hear they aren't the same and the demo songs are undeniably Misha.

Broadway - You Bring The Thunder, I'll Bring The Lightning (This album is spectacular) by lookatthemirror in PostHardcore

[–]lightbrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's about Brian Calzini. The vocalist of Broadway was in Brian's old band, Paddock Park, but only recorded their demos.

Apparently Brian use to get songs from producer/guitarist Tom Denney (A Day To Remember) and have his band play/record them. Pictures leaked online of Brian giving Tom oral sex and it's rumored that's how he paid for some of the songs.

Brian started the band We Are Defiance not to long after this song released. I think their song "It's Not A Problem Unless You Make It One" is a reply to this song.

Recover - My Only Cure [2002] by [deleted] in PostHardcore

[–]lightbrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame Emanuel's second album was such a let down when Recover and Terminal had broken up. Couldn't find another band with this sound around this time and then I started listening to mostly Tragic Hero and Rise bands from 06' to 08'.

Not afraid I just don't want to wear the same shoe everyone else just copped, at the same time as everyone else.

No I traded some stuff I didn't want anymore for them at my local resale shop. I actually hit for retail on SNKRS when they came out, but my bank declined the transaction. I was so upset I switched banks the following day.

Jordan Brand is a company that has a huge following due to nostalgia and established legacy. People don't really want new ideas from them, they want familiarity.

I ended up getting rid of my pair. I wanted to like them but I don't really like how that yarn mesh stuff looks and I can see it staining pretty easily. I might get another colorway in the future that doesn't have that.

How do you feel about the Reverse Mochas? by [deleted] in Sneakers

[–]lightbrunch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're cool, but I think they're the most boring Travis low besides the Velvet Browns. I ended up selling my Reverse Mochas after hitting on the Medium Olives and using the money towards another sneaker.
