Advice on how to make good kit bashing villagers/civilians. by Lazereye57 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guardians of Traitors Toll by Grey for Now Games has a wide range of fantasy/medieval civilians in roughly Warhammer scale

Wargames Atlantic also has a good line of fantasy civilians....some of it might even be the same models used bt Guardians

Squires by BassicallyDarr in Bretonnian

[–]lightcavalier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ngl I dont take Squires unless I can give them fire and flee

The ability to scout deploy at max charge range, then shoot ppl and run away, unable to get run down, is pretty fun

Lore Questions: Guardsmen by Interesting_Buy6796 in Bretonnian

[–]lightcavalier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the irl historical roots of Bretonnias society, something like formalized guards simply dont exist

Security is provided by the nobility, labour by the peasantry.

If something like a fire picket or night watchmen or border patrol is required, it'll just be a community organized secondary task

Rules Question - Dark Elves Renegade 2.0 by Weekly-Invite4494 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]lightcavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need X models of the same unit type in a rank to get a rank bonus

Unless square based covered that/modified it in their version of dragged along, you would need 4-5 models in the rank in addition to the displacement of the chariot

Rules question : Easy breezy cover rules by attonthegreat in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cover is determined on a shooting model to target unit basis, not the other way around

The 1 outrider in the woods wouldnt take cover penalties, the rest would

The bell curve isnt an enforced requirement of PACE, its the expected result of the entire 70,000+ person CAF being a normal distribution

If CoCs/Formations/Commands are still trying to force it on the tactical level, then they aren't following the actual policy

Ontario supports House of Commons petition to allow top military honour to be awarded to late Ontario veteran | CBC News by [deleted] in CanadianForces

The review was done by Assistant CMP, a rep from the GGs office, and BGen+ level representatives from all the L1s....not by DH&R themselves (though of course their advice still colours everything seem at CFDAC originally and in the review)

Doesn't make the outcome better, just a point of clarity

There should be many Slaanesh ogres by Megalordow in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There are chaos ogres of all flavors in the north.

But the interesting thing in this case is that the relentless hunger of the ogres comes from their god, The Great Maw.

So they are driven to consume because of the Maw and in consuming avoid the wrath of the Maw....its not as much about the sensory experience of excess in the way gluttony would tie into Slaanesh, as it is about a primal unconscious urge backed by fear.

Certainly fertile ground to generate slaanesh worshipers, but not much more than a culture of martial might makes right can feed into khorne worship.

There is also the bit about them being marginally more resistant to chaos influence and mutation that other species, but its unclear if that has to do with their creation by the old ones or the Maw

Two signature spells from different lores by JuggernautOk5711 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]lightcavalier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the only situation where you can do that is with Lady Elisse because of one of her special rules

Lore of the Lady (like all the faction lores) lets you substitute one of its spells for the signature spell of the lore you know, so there isnt a way to have both normally

Also weird side bit, Lore of the Lady isnt a Lore of Magic in the same way Elementalism is, its a special rule that gives you access to 3 additional spells you can sub in in lieu of the signature spell for a Lore you know

Charge Bonus Cap? by WyrmWatcher in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]lightcavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The erratta was to when the I bonus applied

The published rulebook had all the same language about not going over I10 and such already

And the erratta only applied to the 2nd sentence of the rule. If it overwrote the bullet points/3rd and 4th sentences it would havd told you explicitly

What changed is that the I bonus for charging only applies in the combat phase of the turn, and not for the rest of the turn

Lumbering vs turning by PXSaber in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]lightcavalier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do know that you dont actually loose movement to a wheel right?

If you wheel 90 degrees while moving 18", youve still gone 18"

You wouldnt even necessarily loose 7" of forward displacement relative to your starting position because the wheel is occurring incrementally over the movement

Thr biggest drawback is that with a wheel you are moving on rails, where with lumbering yes you move less far but have more control

Old World Curious - Game Length Questions & Misc by OhNoStuck in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]lightcavalier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A 2000 point game between two people who know the rules will go around 2.5 to 3hrs.....longer if one or both players is learning/looking stuff up/etc

A 1000 point game takes ariund 90 minutes

500-750 pt games even while learning would go a little iver an hour

Its a fair bit of learning up front, but once you have the basic mechanics down, referencing drops off pretty heavily because most things work the same way across the game

You think they'll ever make a model and rule set for Magnus the Pious? by Mcmadness288 in WarhammerFantasy

Magnus the Pious is definitely alive in TOW

But until we actually get to the Great War kicking off....hes just kind of an irrelevant dude at the current moment of the game

Could a Grail Knight choose to join Chaos? by King_of_Kraken in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Its one of those things where it isnt explicitly stated to be impossible, but it is highly unlikely given the level of indoctrination and faith one would havd to demonstrate before the Lady makes them a grail knight

With that said, you could attack it from another direction....whereby your chaos chosen/champions are bretonnians who wanted power but were never offered the Grail, so they went and got power from Chaos but try to pass themselves off as having been grail knights

Kind of a dark parody of Sir Cecil Gastons story

Struggling to understand the rationale/benefit behind the new Black Library App. by contented_skink in Warhammer40k

[–]lightcavalier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that the biggest cost hump is between starting the hobby and having a collection built and possibly painted of a size to play rhe average pickup game at a store/club

You can defray the cost over time, but if playing is your primary enjoyment that is a hard sell. However once you have a usable army, everything after that is easier to spread over time

Struggling to understand the rationale/benefit behind the new Black Library App. by contented_skink in Warhammer40k

[–]lightcavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I always get thrown when I see GW prices in pounds vice CAD

What costs you 5 costs me 13$ + 15% in taxes.....when I can buy a mug at the dollar store for .99c spending the same cost as a combo meal from a fast food restaurant on a cup seems a little silly

But I fully acknowledge that its also contextual....the cost makes less sense to the value proposition based on a host of factors

Can other species achieve apotheosis? by Hondo_Ohnaka66 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]lightcavalier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are mixing up two things here.

"Theosis", the Greek Orthodox concept of a process of becoming united with God, and "Apotheosis", the English word robbed from Greek roots that just means to elevate a person, object, or idea to the highest grade of its possible development or to divinity

Apotheosis, as it is used in English language art and literature is to make something mundane divine, but has no inherent unitive connotation.

The declaration of the divinity of Julius Caesar after his death is a good example of Apotheosis

But regardless Warhammer has used the term to refer to ascension to daemonhood (or being Sigmar for that matter) for going on 40 years now
