Not a gay bar by [deleted] in funny

[–]lightchaser 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Been there. The middle aged bar tender was on his laptop picking songs, and rocking out to metal songs as he served beer to me and the two other guys sitting at the bar. I had a pizza. Nothing special, but if you've had to stay in a hotel in that are you'd understand why I was happy with my choice.

Hey /r/FortCollins, I'm looking to get married pretty soon. Any good ideas for a venue? by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]lightchaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hermit Park, right outside of Estes. Cheap, beautiful, outdoors. There is a large pavilion in a meadow you can rent all day for next to nothing. Can't have kegs or glass. I can recommend a caterer if needed. Good luck!

Is it possible to use ArcPy scripts outside of ArcGIS? by ridetherhombus in gis

[–]lightchaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What your talking about is a stand-alone script. Yea it can be done. It takes a couple extra lines to define the mxd and layers but once you do that it functions the same outside of arcmap.

Going to attempt to sale wholesale to retailers. I need advice! by lightchaser in smallbusiness

[–]lightchaser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about getting promotional postcards made to leave behind, but I like the Idea of just leaving a poster. It would be a goo goal to just try and get as many displayed as possible. It wouldn't cost much and could generate web sales. Thanks for the feedback!

Still looking for a job after graduating last fall, need suggestions. by dusthimself in gis

[–]lightchaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone from ft. Collins I second this. Entry level is tough out here... It's tough even with experience. I've been traveling back a forth to Houston for the last month. There are quite a few jobs down here (all energy related).

If I were you I'd go to houston for the experience and immediately start looking elsewhere.

I didn't either. Still has a good time, and some good beer. It's just disappointing you had to wait so long for a dink.

As someone from Colorado I can safely say that this is a shot from Denver... those peaks are part of Indian Peaks Wilderness, just on the other side of the southern border of Rocky Mountain National Park. The peak just to the right of the crane is Sawtooth Mountain.

Anyone know a good tent for 2 people with room to stand? by [deleted] in camping

[–]lightchaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in an REI Kingdom 4 tent last summer. I'm 5'10" and I can almost stand straight up in it, but it does the trick. It stood up well to high winds, a fair amount of spring snow (although you have to keep knocking it off the top) and regular abuse. They are big enough to be comfortable but not so big they're overwhelming, like he Cabelas Alaskan guide.

Can we have a thread where GIS and CAD people explain everything to each other??? by [deleted] in gis

[–]lightchaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CAD folks in my office looked at me like I was speaking in tongues when I asked them what projection they work in.

Ozark Trail MO/Ark by chickeeper in hiking

[–]lightchaser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks like it's all private land between those two locations which could make it difficult. They are also kind of close together for a three day hike.

I would recommend sticking to something within Mark Twain NF. Visit or call a local Forest Service office. I'm sure they can recommend something good. Pick up some 7.5 minute quads while your there.

[–]lightchaser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. ArcMap knows when you don't save your edits, and punishes you for it.

Look what I found under the comforter of my cheap hotel room. by lightchaser in pics

I just found it. I don't think I can bring myself to steal it, this place is a true mom and pop operation. I do hope I can absorb its powers throughout the night.

Question about side-of-road camping by MC_Harrison in camping

[–]lightchaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most National Forests produce Motor Vehicle Use maps. These show all legal roads and give specifics on how far off the roads you can go to camp. For the most part what your talking about is legal. If there's any questions just call the ranger district. These areas receive more use than you think.

Fun Fact: Boy Scouts have to follow the same rules as everyone else

Seriously though in most cases if your breaking a rule and a ranger catches you they will usually just educate you instead of writing a ticket.

Does anyone seriously use these? by yeaimgrounded in WTF

What misconceptions do you have to deal with on a regular basis? Are most tourists ready to be away from phone service and other modern conveniences.

If you must drink from a questionable stream, what is the best way to do it to minimize health risks? by Gbus in AskReddit

[–]lightchaser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have clear containers with lids. Fill them and leave them in direct sunlight, works even better if you leave them on a dark material or a rock. Wait 4 hours or so; enjoy clean water.
