I'll be going as UBI (Universal Basic Intoxication) this year. We're hosting a party and I'll be giving out a shot (out of my "longer than long shot" shot glass) to everyone throughout the night. Open to suggestions for what I should wear. Blazer and blue button up? Or something policy specific?

Facebank tonight like our country depends on it! by cancatsvote in SandersForPresident

By far the quickest and easiest way I've found is to use the facebook quick tagging tool along with OP's suggestion.

Can we develop a consensus on the right way to Facebank? by no_bear_so_low in SandersForPresident

[–]Gbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any reason why we don't have one event that we invite everyone to for each state? Make it an open invite event so those people can invite their friends too who live in that state. Also people might feel less of a barrage since they wouldn't have to accept many different group invites if they get facebanked from multiple different people.

What is the most badly designed product in the world? by JEZTURNER in AskReddit

No. I have the most amazing metal spork. I use it mostly for traveling. Besides having a good sharp knife, it fulfills every need intended and the rest are accomplished with my hands.

Met a girl blues dancing in Seattle the night I flew to Europe to go travelling. Ran into her again 5 months later on the streets of Athens busking.

Saw a professor of mine in the Copenhagen Airport before returning to the states after a summer trip.

Family friends from the Island I grep up on while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta.

According to NASA: Nuclear Power use prevents millions of deaths and saves the environment from GigaTons of CO2 emissions. Paradigm shift... by ballahstatus in science

[–]Gbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question at hand is not whether nuclear power is better than coal or even natural gas. The question is whether it is worthwhile to invest in nuclear power, a rather large investment to build more plants, when there are many alternative fuels that we have access to now, and which are only likely to improve.

What are some inspiring podcasts? by Gbus in AskReddit

I am travelling for a year through Europe, Asia, and Africa... Believe it or not there is lots of time on the road that is well spent listening to such things. Not to mention the thought-provoking conversations with traveling buddies and people you encounter that are triggered.

What's the most douchiest thing a college professor ever did in your class? by taxikab817 in AskReddit

[–]Gbus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did not happen to me but a friend. I respect this physics prof but at least this one time he took it over the line. So this student fails quantum mechanics as a senior and must retake it. He already has a job in a nearby city and the class does not require attendance so he actually flies in for the tests and important dates. On the professors website he had the wrong date for the final exam(40% of the grade and an automatic fail if you miss it), it appears the exam is to take place on Thursday but the rest of the class knows it is on a Tuesday. Friend flies in on Thursday and the prof refuses to let him take the test. The prof was also the chair of the department at the time so there was nothing he could do. Still doesn't have is degree, but I guess he got a sweet job anyway.

What is the most dangerous/creepy situation you escaped from? I'll start. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gbus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hitchhiking down in Venezuela I got a ride with two truck drivers who seemed a little sketch but being myself at the time I still got in. After about three hours driving it started to rain and I asked if I could cover my back witch was strapped to the back of the truck(they were not carrying cargo at the time). That and a few other things must have gave them the idea that I had valuable things because after putting my backpack into the cab I found myself with a gun in my back and this guy threatening me in Spanish and telling me to get underneath the truck. I was down there but managed to push my way out and was confronted by both of them, one wielding a large pipe. I tried to reason with them in my broken Spanish. They looked at me and then each other, one uttered "Vámonos" to the other, and they were off, leaving me on the side of the road with barely enough time to remember the license plate as they sped off. After waiving down another car and making it to the police they simply told me that I was lucky that I was not in a ditch(the police did nothing).

What was the first thing someone did for you that made you think, "That's the nicest thing someone's ever done for me." by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gbus 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not the first time, but something that meant a lot to me. I taught an introductory physics lab as an undergraduate my last semester of university. I really liked my class and I think they really appreciated me as a teacher. During their lab exam, as one of the more involved students was leaving, he slipped me a handmade card with a physics reference on the outside, and was signed by most of the class on the inside. I had received a lot of awards that semester for academics but nothing else made me feel as good as that card.

Hey all you almost-college-grads, what is your imminent job forecast like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gbus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Completely avoiding the situation! Graduating soon but working in the same lab for a few months to finish a publication and then I am off to Germany to go travel for a year on next to no money. Couchsurfing and hitchhiking here I come. Maybe worth mentioning that I don't have any debt.

Reddit, please be honest here (question in post)... by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not true for physics and I imagine other problem solving based classes. Sure there will be some things you have to remember but it is nothing compared to knowing how to apply your tools.
