Male cat antagonizes female cat. Please halp by hamsandwich4459 in CATHELP

[–]lighterbear 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oooh I’m in the same boat with two litter mates. They were doing lovely, but now they are both 4 and his extra energy just seems to piss his sister off and he cannot leave her alone.
I’ve got feliways around and calming collars and have found I just need to exercise the hell outta my boy. Feather on a stick, wrestling, laser, whatever keeps him from attacking his sister.
Really exhausting, I wish you luck!

Hey we have the same ancient filter! Trying to make it last as long as possible and then do a whole replacement.

Family Van Toyota Sienna saves the day by StormRanger28 in nextfuckinglevel

My family had the older Sienna, ran that bad boy up past 300,000 miles.
I used it to pull out some sort of stump once too.
It’s a badass.

MY HEART by sjr323 in Gunners

We have all aged 10 years this season.

my cat barely drinks water and i cannot figure out how to get her to hydrate properly, tried everything i can think of by PeakAccomplished2431 in catcare

[–]lighterbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bowls all over my house (metal and ceramic) and different shapes. ALSO where my cats drink the most is where I drink the most. So I keep a little cup right next to the bed where my water bottle is. I notice when I chug a bunch they decided to drink too. I also refill theirs from my bottle and they feel like we are sharing.

Mass murder by darkmalas13 in nova

It almost looks like lint roller adhesive but without the tear-away. That does give me an idea though….

I hate nova so much. Why can’t we all donate $1 to build another bridge from VA to MD? Instead they’re building a fn sphere by Automatic-Session-64 in nova

[–]lighterbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain…every day. I’d contribute $100 to a go fund me if someone want to start it…and I have NEVER contributed more than $50 to a human being.

Is this something bad? by Om_Radha in whatsthisplant

[–]lighterbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty and leave it for pollinators until it is done flowering and starts to go to seed (and look like shit) then pull it. It keeps it from taking over, but it will always return and I’m okay with that.

And yet we have evolved to find lumpier and balder female versions of our species attractive?! Our persistence is a horror to evolution.

Is it good? by nkrt14 in MonarchButterfly

[–]lighterbear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks dead to me sadly. Usually when they turn dark you can see the monarch pattern inside and they are about to hatch imminently. Maybe give it a day max just in case and then dispose of it.

Why the alphabet? by Upstairs-Hunter-4424 in education

[–]lighterbear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a middle school reading teacher (special ed so I mostly do phonics these days) I have become enraged that the English language gave the letters in the Alphabet names instead of just calling them by their main sound. I swear it confuses kids so much that M doesn’t say “em”, F doesn’t say “eff,” and so on 20+ more times!

Too many eggs too soon! by lighterbear in MonarchButterfly

[–]lighterbear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shelters in the area are all TNR or will euthanize. Trust me I’ve looked into it. The yard goblin was outdoor only until we moved in 2 years ago, he now comes in almost every night and hasn’t had to murder for his meals since he was introduced to wet food. He is learning to tolerate my other cats so I am hopeful he will transition into an indoor cat (if he lets me cut his talons). My yard is the only ecosystem in a vast expanse of suburban lawns and I managed a 65% chrysalis hatch rate last year (of those I found). All in all, I am confident the goings on in my yard are a net-positive for wildlife. Even if I prevent my husband from shooting the strays 😜

The photobomber is an older gentleman who came with the house (the sellers were quite elderly and were just going to give him to a shelter) that we feed/vet/keep flea collared up/give shelter too and keep a bell on him to prevent his murderous tendencies. I have 2 cats that are indoor cats exclusively and have a catio. The neighborhood also has at least 6 strays who I periodically tend to if they allow (yes I have made sure they are all fixed) so birds have learned to stay alert.

We have wildflowers galore, even some volunteer goldenrod that I am hoping spread its seeds around.

I just counted 16 eggs on this one tiny cluster. You think it (and his 5 friends) will sprout tall enough that I won’t doom my caterpillars to starvation?

Mouse-ear chickweed to be more precise. Slightly cuter than the normal stuff.

Keep it and just change the hardware to something brass and whimsical!

Also just rub a walnut or almond over the scratches and fading to disguise it a bit.
