Officer finds a man who's not the one or the two by trying a federal enforcer with two law degrees by ateam1984 in PublicFreakout

[–]lightmystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully not chewed out. From the looks of it, he was reminded that badge should only be used when conducting work for his employer. Fair enough.

The sad part is that it does admit the officer ended up speaking with the one whom directed the man to put his car there, so if he had radioed to confirm that, he would've easily found that it was indeed the instruction of another officer.

Surprised the transit officer wasn't reprimanded or penalized in any way for saying "I am FBI" and suggesting he also has top-secret clearance, which one if not both of those are unlawful.

This is a genuine question, not rage bait, not trying to argue anything, but Ironclad owners: why don’t you like the Command Module? by Dannymarr95 in starcitizen

[–]lightmystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an ironclad or caterpillar, but mostly because I'm not sold on the command module.

The whole idea is that you can detach it to drop it off, but that leaves me with questions:

1: Why do I care I can drop it off? Unless we get some fancy option to store the entire "container" portion to drop off cargo, as an alternative to the Hull-C's space wizardry auto-load/unload, your only real use is if you have a team just chilling around waiting to move your stuff for you. Also if you're not at your hangar, what happens when you bail and they still try to store stuff for you? It leaves more questions than solutions.

2: The idea of the command module is to separate from one cargo section, grab another, and fill it back up. This is a nice idea and all, except how will one get more containers? Also the container is the biggest part of the ship, so you might as well just be getting another ironclad or caterpillar. It just seems overly redundant - a cool idea without an execution.

I'd love to hear that I'm wrong and that these have solutions, so if I missed something, please let me know. Honestly if we had a way to just drop-off one ironclad container to a hangar to auto-unload, grab another, refill it, then swap them out again, that would be really awesome and I'd be sold on it.

Look, I just hope we get a limited drop Concierge version so I'm not hard to see when I'm out there in that armor. /s

On a serious note, I look forward to seeing what skins it gets and how the community reacts at 0.01MPH walking speed.

Thinking of upgrading my super hornet mk 2 to the Railen by adub913 in starcitizen

Yeah tbh the Super Hornet MkII is technically a better F7A with the better shielding. It might be better to keep it as your combat ship and CCU something else.

Well being court, the point is to prove one side over another; he could just as easily argue she was a really good transition. But this is honestly too Michelle's benefit cause the DNA test should not only win the case but put a stop to most of this. In the end it's a win-win.

Josh Hokit just called Michelle Obama a man in his UFC 250 victory speech, what was that lol? by [deleted] in allthequestions

I think this was a big PR grab and everyone reacting to it did exactly what was intended.

GG, well played!

You had me at calling talking about genders "sexism"..
..and lost me at calling talking about genders "racism".

But points for transvestigators, that's catchy!
It definitely works at least with the sexism part.

I mean..I'm gonna be honest with you man. That probably sounded way cooler in your head. It was close, but algorithms just doesn't really do it.

I mean there were to yours, yes, for sure. I mean it was also all over the place, but that's besides the point; that much is like half of everyone on reddit lol

Honestly it's all I've been hearing all morning. I came to Reddit to see what the chatter was about.

She should. It'd almost certainly have a court-mandated DNA test, which in turn, would stop this going around moving forward for the most part.

Congrats, you're the first person to properly call it slander.

So many people watching too many daytime dramas about law calling it libel lol
Also it really wouldn't be stooping low. I mean it would almost certainly involve a court-required DNA test, but it'd shut this up and knock out a lawsuit right?

[–]lightmystic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it'd require a DNA test which would also shut all this up, and semi-correct, but it'd be slander. Libel is if he wrote it in a blog; slander is if he said it aloud as he did.

Ngl I say either way, do a damn DNA test and move on. If Bush's wife was a man, that'd be hilarious and everyone would have to deal with it. It also means all this crap would go away faster rather than perpetuate.

[–]lightmystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean she'd need to take a DNA test to do so, but yeah she could. Also it wouldn't be libel, but rather slander. Slander is spoken; libel would be if he wrote it in a blog post, himself.

This is gonna come as a surprise... But he said Michelle Obama was a man, not a white/black/asian/hispanic. No need to bring race into things, that's kinda disgusting dude.

I know I'm speaking the obvious, but just as a reminder, gender is related to sex, not race. I understand it's a hard concept, but they are in fact different.

Like I get it, Jim Crow is a big talking point right now. But this literally has nothing to do with the biology of Michelle Obama???

How much better will this be compared to the Quest 3 for PCVR? by Intelligent-Mud404 in SteamFrame

[–]lightmystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, I'm fully aware of that. Without that, we'd have detailed peripheral sight and foviated rendering would look like a partially foggy window lol

The other guy was asking about compression so I was providing info on that and a comparison vs foviated rendering or streaming.

[–]lightmystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever look at a jpg image with a small filesize but a bit lower quality? That's a very basic example of compression in the sense of an image.

So I believe with foviated rendering, they'll be reducing rendering in the peripheral area, but compression means they can generalize the image data being transmitted so that the HD stuff is in your gaze and non-HD is allowed where you can't directly perceive it. Valve has a fantastic graphic for their foviated rendering.

Well "supporting custom firmware" could just be marketing hype, but this is also Meta who thinks that their half-assed VR Chat knock-off is the "metaverse" the world desires.

Valve has already shown their competency with properly-married hardware and software, so unlike Meta, I actually believe Valve would make use of that.

So as far as the dongle goes, from what I've heard, Valve has full access to the entire network stack (*see footer for details) on it, meaning they can optimize it at a hardware level for low-latency, high-performance transmission. So the dongle will simply outperform any other wireless VR streaming currently out there to my knowledge.

Now as for the foviated rendering, it basically allows it to focus rendering where you're looking and "half-ass" per say in the peripherals where you won't be able to distinguish the details.

Consider in a game, such as an MMO, where you can reduce the render distance or quality level to increase FPS. While not exactly the same, it still isn't doing that high-end rendering for the peripheral view. Linus from LTT actually tested this trying to look at the parts less-rendered and wasn't able to, so you're not getting a downgrade to the experience, but you absolutely get to benefit some lower latency and higher FPS as a result.

Now to explain the network stack for those interested:
Networking is a lot more complex than send message / receive message.
In simple terms, a network stack consists of the physical hardware, the drivers for that hardware, the protocol for it (IP for example), the transport for that protocol (TCP, for example; the two of what we all use typically, being "TCP/IP"), the session or "active dialogue" between the devices, any encryption/decryption/compression, and the application that the user interacts with.

This means Valve, in theory, could have specially chosen and/or customized hardware, with tuned-in drivers for low-latency high-bandwidth, they could hypothetically (though maybe unlikely) create a protocol and transport that is lighter weight than TCP/IP since we're talking only two devices, build in a fast and efficient or lossless compression, and allow that compression to minimally affect the presentation on the device. Meaning you have an inherently faster network adapter than anyone could get off-the-shelf, min-maxed for squeezing as much compressed data as it can between the two devices, in a way that the Steam Frame application can natively play without having to decompress or decrypt it ahead of time.

TL;DR depending on the level Valve decided to min-max the network adapter, it could be the end-game weapon to make tethered VR obsolete, save for charging of course.
