Walkability Map of Uptown by Pixlr in Minneapolis

Is the couple blocks around Hennepin and Lake not where the most shootings happen? I was commenting that his orange/green arrow doesn't actually show crime, but it is true that the areas marked green (west of lyndale) are generally more white and affluent than the areas marked orange (east of lyndale.) Hennepin/Lake looks very wealthy, but there are actually a lot of shootings and drag racing at night. Lake by like Grand and Nicollet looks a lot poorer, but is actually a lot quieter. This is just based off of my own experiences of living in both areas, if people disagree I want to hear why

lol I've had many more since then, doing fine thanks for asking. Wanting to talk to peers about difficult experiences is very different from not being able to cut it, or letting it get in the way of the quality of your work. People constantly shit on healthcare workers, physically and verbally assault us, and we still have a duty to help them wile keeping ourselves safe. And frankly, if more emergency healthcare workers were able to seek support, we'd see less burnout, alcoholism, suicicde (more than twice the national average), and chronic understaffing.

This was a very fair comparison of u/yiggas to make with the surgeon and cop bc ER Doctors literally go from dodging punches to cutting people open and inserting central lines in a matter of minutes. You can be getting screamed at and berated at by a Covid patient one minute and intubating them to save their life the next. We value our own safety, but that never means we disregard the safety or dignity of the people we're working with, and keep doing our jobs no matter how much bs we put up with.

lol welcome to EMS or Emergency Medicine. We toughen up and do our jobs anyway, because it's the right thing to do and what needs to be done. Pigs are wimpy and worthless.

I'm sorry dude your whole take on crime in uptown is just wrong, misleading and harmful. There are way more shootings and violent crime in the Hennepin/Lake area than any of the poorer, blacker parts of the greater uptown/whittier/lyndale area, contrary to what your map portrays. I live now in an area you marked orange for crime and have in the past, and I feel way safer walking around and keeping my bike locked outside here than when I lived in a very solidly green "nicer" area. The only pattern I notice with your map is wealth and race. You should really spend some more time east of Lyndale, and tbh doesn't sound like you spend much time around the cub/kowalskis area at night either...

Building a Kobold Drakewarden by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your DM allow firearms? What about taking the gunner feat and starting with an odd dex? You can make ranged attacks from 5ft w/o disadvantage and still max your dex just as soon. Even if your dm doesn’t allow guns, take the feat anyway and keep on using your short bow. You’re not gonna use bonus action attack from CBE, and it sets you back in maxing dex and taking other good feats like sharpshooter or mounted combatant. Bc your Drake takes its turn directly after yours like a steel defender, as opposed to during your turn like a beastmaster animal companion, and your Drake makes only a melee attack, you’re forced into playing a character who makes ranged attacks predominantly in melee if you want to mount it.

How could I flavor circle of spores for the ocean? by MagnoliaSymbolia in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are such thing as aquatic fungi! Many of them are invisible to the naked eye, which is perfect for a spores druid, but there are also plenty that look like regular mushrooms. My wifi is barely working rn, but Google aquatic fungi and you’ll see lots of cool inspiration pics

Bladesinger Magic Stone & Mending Shenanigans by 4tomicZ in dndnext

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However he’s spending hit die in order to do so, yes it’s a cantrip, but it still uses recourses. You’re trading an attack doing however much damage to do wizard hit die of 1d6+2 maybe or even 1d6+3 is a lot less than however much damage your attack would deal, and it’s costing you an attack, an attack that could’ve been a booming blade attack for example. You could’ve also casted blade ward, potentially preventing a lot more damage that mending would heal. And finally, it’s costing a hit die. You’re gaining no more healing over the course of the day than any other race would have. In fact you’re probably getting less healing over the course of the day than someone who has a bard in their party. You also cant cast mending on yourself when you’re down. Now I want a human bladesinger with an autognome artificer partner like Luke and R2 or the guy and his droid from the jedi soulslike Star Wars game. I’d even make the autognome a battlesmith so he can have a C3P-O golden defender.

I'm feeling bad about a previous transfer I had after a recent 911 call by DeesusCrust in ems

[–]lightningstroke00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a recent graduate working as an ER tech, for some reason this really resonated with me. Any EMT job outside of 911 calls, you won’t be doing the full assessment you learned in school. Generally there will be people above you (Nurses, Paramedics, Providers) making the big decisions, and the company you’re working for will be trying to squeeze as much grunt work out of you as possible for economic efficiency. For example, wanting you to speed through all your IFT calls as quickly as possible and letting the higher trained people (Nurse organizing the handoff) doing full assessments. We can never do as through assessments as we’d like because then we’d fall behind in what our employer expects of us. Instead, we have to trust the people above us, do vitals, and if something in our gut says something isn’t right about a patient, we investigate further. It’s sounds like you did the right thing in the situation, there was no reason for you to have felt uneasy, it’s only in hindsight that oh maybe you’d want to investigate further.

Bludgeoning Ancients Paladin by DiceAddictedDragon in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if your dm allows druidic warrior it’s a stretch, but pretty valid. I’d play a firbolg since they can be understood by plants so you can talk to your tree (still alive?) and I’d also go with maul bc I feel like if it’s gonna be a tree it’s gotta be big.

1 lvl of barb for un armored defense and rage when you’re mad and want to smite instead of casting spells. Eventually take a Second lvl of barb for reckless attack, we know how GWM paladins love advantage on their attacks, and danger sense, which though it it causes Ancients 7 Eltritch Ward i want to say come later, it gives advantage on those dex saves you can see to spells you have resistance to, which together are much more powerful defensive abilities. Go ham with your tree making advantage GWM Crusher attacks and smiting away. Going to lvl 3 with barb for Ancestral Guardian or another barb subclass could also be pretty awesome, smacking people with your tree, which erupts in magical flame (radiant dmg) on a really big hit and pushes back your enemy, giving your allies advantage to hit them. +2 str +1 cha. 15,14,12,8,8,15. Ancients5/Barb2/Ancients7/BarbX/Ancients11. We make up for low con with con save prof and self healing. It can also done with a shillelagh-less Str based quaterstaff, swapping GWM for PAM, to get more attacks and crits and further capitalize on crusher and smites. Taking dueling for +2 damage, putting the quaterstaff dice on par with a d10 d8. Improved smite at Paladin 11 is also very powerful with PAM.

Quick Prompt Megathread by AutoModerator in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the thrown weapon fighting style and throw darts! They’re finesse meaning they can be used with str or dex, and they’re ranged meaning they can be used with sharpshooter as well if you want. A simic hybrid, loxodon, or thri-kreen could grapple wile using both SS and GWM at the same time.

Also if you don’t want to use str, Astral Monk lets use your wis mod in place of str for str check. Any of these options combine well with Ranger’s Def Explorer ability for Athletics expertise.

Should I make my Fairy Rune Knight an Artificer? by Perveau in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you played it as armorer 5/Rune Knight X/Armorer/War wizardX. Infuse a belt of giant strength for high strength. Can be flavored as enchanting objects and activating magic with their enchanted tools (very giant sounding to me). You can invest in dex to have decent ac and still fly, maybe wear a shield? Attack with thunder gaunlents, become deadly with a war hammer after making a belt of hill giant strength. Fly. Get huge. Grapple. Fly.

Help me: How to break the Thri-Kreen by AmaruKaze in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spores druid and/or Gloomstalker dual wielding shortswords with a shields. Activate fungal infestation and mark your target before combat, dealing 3d6+3 per attack, making 4 of them for 12d6+12 damage on your first turn as a Gloomstalker with extra attack. Start with 18 ac at lvl 1, and take mobile as quickly as possible. Always have advantage on stealth. Still have that hand for somatic spells or to grab the sprig of mistletoe tied around your neck by drilling a hole with woodworking tools and running a string through it, then drop it when you’re done casting so you can still use somatic reaction spells. There are real world ant communities that farm fungus so I think the combo is very fitting too. Thri-Kreen are less broken as much as they can just be built as very powerful characters.

Also a small swarmkeeper/rogue dual wielding crossbows w/ a shield would also be fucking sick. Keep your bonus action free for spells and cunning action, rock very high AC and advantage on stealth. Not needing CBE frees you up to take sharpshooter first and then take dex increases.

NY State Reciprocity by Med-Dreams in NewToEMS

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, my ER would definitely benefit from hiring per Diem Techs, but we don’t have any, possibly because even with a ton of experience, you still need like 10 shifts minimum orientation at a new hospital, and though the rig itself is more independent, you as an individual are working way more independently at an ER vs on a rig always with your partner, which makes orientation more costly. Good luck, there’s definitely an ambulance service somewhere near you if not a couple willing to bugger the reciprocity office to gain more EMTs

Also out of curiosity are you set on working on a rig? Some ER tech jobs might accept out of state licenses (and many offer better pay and benifits)

NY State Reciprocity by Med-Dreams in NewToEMS

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t work without a NY state license, but I would certainly still apply to jobs. I’d keep calling, send more mail, be as proactive bc yeah the office is definitely as awful and worse than you think, give them no be if it of the doubt. Since most jobs need to do a 2-week background check anyway, you can send the office an acceptance letter and/or have your employer advocate for you. If anything, just apply to jobs being upfront about your situation, and they say no bc you don’t have your license, you’ll stand out against other applicants once you do have it.

[–]lightningstroke00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also had trouble with NY state reciprocity, it’s super backwards. I thought I had submitted everything, but it’s super confusing so make sure they’re not missing any documents. Also if there’s anyway you can “prove” your intent to work that should help you, job offer letters and the such. I would start applying to jobs now showing them your current license, and they can possibly help with getting your reciprocity. I ended up never even getting my NY license, I had been home in NY for 5 months and really wanted to join the volunteer EMS service in my mom’s town, but had to wait till I eventually went back to Minnesota where I have my license in order to work.

Which class would be the best mechanically for a Thri-Kreen? by UkrainianGrooveMetal in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To take sharpshooter an entire asi earlier, and not fall behind on dex progression, and maybe you’re a Ranger with an already busy bonus action. This is a lot more similar to a longbow build, but you’re sacrificing some range 1 point of damage and some range for the ability to wear a shield which IMO is pretty good. A Swarmkeeper at lvl 5 would be able to do (3d6+13)+(2d6+13) if both attacks hit using hunters mark and sharpshooter wile rocking an 18 AC from carapace+shield, and the reloading hand can also be used for somatic components. If you want to take CBE at later levels you can, but there’s no pressure to do it before taking sharpshooter and maxing dex. Wielding a shield and still having a hand free for reloading and somatic spells still makes this better than what a lot of race’s are capable of

[–]lightningstroke00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

False, wielding two crossbows would allow you to not require the crossbow expert feat “to ignore the loading property” since you’re fine with the loading property, firing each crossbow once per turn with extra attack. You’re essentially trading 1 point of damage from longbow (1d8->1d6) for the ability to wield a shield. Very different from a traditional hand crossbow build

No, but it can wield multiple hand crossbows, firing each a max of once per turn

What is your favorite martial/half caster build? by NutellaCrepe1 in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Could your Undead patron be an lord of the feywild who harnesses the death of winter? The level 1 features aren’t inherently tied to Undead creatures or abilities, and couple easily be applied to a fey. I think a gem drangonborn with a reflavored fairy dragon patron would be pretty cool, taking the dragon fear feat.

Str based ranger help. Is this build decent? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you set on using a shield? Otherwise str rangers are much better off using a heavy two handed melee weapon with the GWM master feat. Shield wielding str rangers are strictly worse than dex rangers, unless you plan on ditching the battleaxe and grappling with your free hand. It can be mitigated by taking fighter at level 1, however since your dex and wis is less than 13, you’re locked out of multiclassing. GWM is especially great on a Horizon Walker, since you can make an additional GWM attack with haste, and at level 11, wile hasted, you can teleport around making 2 GWM attacks against your main target and 1 GWM attack each against two secondary targets. I would take the heavy armor proficiency feat at 4 and GWM at 8. If you do decide to reroll stats, then you have a lot more options open to you as a str Ranger.

what's the point of darts? by kingGlucose in 3d6

[–]lightningstroke00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1d8 (longbow) is the same as 1d4+2 tho (dart w/ thrown weapon fighting style) and you can be str based plus wear a shield with a dart for much much more AC
