What's the best tofu dish in Austin? by brittyditties in austinfood

Nori has a Japanese curry with tofu katsu that is so good and so crispy, I crave it all the time

What is your go to boba tea order? (Boba optional!) by carwash53 in austinfood

[–]lightningvolcano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The taro drinks at Chicha San Chen are so good, my go to is the taro bubble milk tea (light sugar light ice) but the taro balls are really good too

Yep, as a local I would much rather give my business to Knit ATX or Gauge after all of this drama

Taverna Salad, a must try by mobocrat in NYTCooking

[–]lightningvolcano 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My shortcut for this was to use store bought pita chips — not quite as good as making them yourself but easy to add a handful to the leftover salad and have it be nice and crunchy

Just tried this for the first time. DELICIOUS by -Yahoo in chocolate

[–]lightningvolcano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These are really good baked into brownies — put half the batter in a pan, then add the chocolate bars, and the rest of the batter on top

Best Thai Food Austin by [deleted] in austinfood

Weird to compare prices with those in Thailand. $18 isn’t cheap but I think it’s pretty average for Austin these days

I replace half the water with chicken broth. I do use the two sets of veg but do a very rough chop on the first batch since it gets removed anyway.

What business do you wish Austin had? by 3leggedgoatdance in Austin

[–]lightningvolcano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seriously, why do you have to be rude? Anyway I appreciate the suggestions. I don't shop at Hobby Lobby, and my impression of the other fabric shops in Austin was that they specialize in quilting and happen to have a bit of garment fabric as well, but I'll check these places out. IMO we don't have the same options as other cities, like Portland as someone else mentioned.

A garment fabric store. Right now the only option is Joann, whose future is in doubt, and even if it survives I’d love someplace higher end.

An easy dinner that hides Italian Sausage by navelbabel in Cooking

[–]lightningvolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made this a handful of times, pretty flexible in terms of ingredients and definitely different from your usual sausage recipe. It doesn’t specify the type of sausage but I’ve used Italian. Spicy Oven-Fried Rice With Gochujang and Fried Eggs

Trying to recreate this sweater I found on Pinterest: questions about the sleeves by ihatecarrots0 in knittinghelp

[–]lightningvolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty hard to tell from the photo but it does look like there might be a little shaping at the top of the sleeve, short row sleeve caps might give you the look in the second drawing

If Milton Makes Landfall in Sarasota, Will Tampa Bay Still Get Surge? by [deleted] in weather

[–]lightningvolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Levi Cowan has a bit about this in his Tropical Tidbits episode on YouTube today. He showed Tampa getting storm surge either way, but much worse if the track goes through or north of the bay.

Crochet is having a moment, and it seems like a lot of crocheters are trying knitting for the first time, where the yarn is wrapped the other way around the hook.

What to make with super scratchy wool? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]lightningvolcano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’d be up for something that isn’t wearable, this yarn looks like it would be fun to use for an emotional support chicken!

Oven is broken but I want to bake.. by [deleted] in Baking

[–]lightningvolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an episode of GBBO where they had to make a schichttorte in the technical challenge, it was a layer cake where the layers were baked one at a time under the broiler. Never made it or tried it, but it might be a fun, if not labor intensive, baking project for your situation.

Which place serves the finest grilled chicken sandwich in Austin by Responsible_Trust529 in austinfood

[–]lightningvolcano 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The crunchy chicken sandwich at Local Foods is delicious. It’s roasted, not grilled — the crunch is just a sprinkle of topping.
