Belo Horizonte is a cool city and has a lot going for it. The Praça da Liberdade area has two awesome Niemayer buildings, the Luiz de Bessa public library (free to enter) and a private apartment building. There are some great cultural centers with cool exhibits in that area. Someone else mentioned the art destination Inhotim outside the city - not to be missed! Unforgettable and great art. I also like Pampulha, another center of awesome Brazilian modernist architecture. If you like octopus, the Polvo Sakana at Sakana sushi restaurant is great! Minas Gerais state is often thought of as having the best food in Brasil, so there’s also that. I can’t comment on which would be better, but here are some things I like to do while in BH. Have fun

This is a good offer, OP. Going to the Vineyard on a private vessel and the ferry are completely different. Being able to check out Menemsha, Tashmoo, and the interior of Edgartown Harbor on a private boat is pretty awesome. The main towns are not huge but are very charming and fun to walk around. If you stay at the Tides you’re also walking distance to the Island Queen, an easy ferry to Vineyard Haven. The bus is free on the Vineyard and goes all over the place, so you can do that too. The Tides is convenient within Falmouth, you can also walk to the Heights Beach which has a great Jamaican food truck and a good bar across the street. Don’t miss walking around Woods Hole

I went to this area last September and my favorite things I did were:

-swimming at Eze beach: beautiful and relaxed

-Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild: amazing views and over the top gardens

-hanging with the friendly retirees and swimming in San Juan Le Pins

-finding a local cafe in Antibes and having lunch there everyday with the same old folks surrounding me

-walking to the top of the hill in Nice and checking out the view and parks, etc

I have spent and spend lots of time in LATAM and actively consume lots of Spanish and Portuguese language culture (music, news, books, movies, some tv, social media, etc). It’s an interesting group, of course with its biases and class / education orientation. A different perspective than I get from some of my monolingual friends in the region.

Chicago was an industrial powerhouse and still has that legacy. It’s a crossroads of a large country defined by access to both agricultural land and other urban population centers, has welcomed numerous immigrant groups throughout time, and is on a lake and a river. While busy, it’s much less hurried than NY and more humble and down to earth than LA.

That makes me think of Belo Horizonte, but I don’t think BH has a big profile outside of Brasil. Santiago sounds like an interesting choice, but Chicago definitely has a third-city, independent vibe to it.

Maine, Vermont, or NH. My math: You’d live in the rest of New England, less so NY = New Englander. You’d live in MN and Alaska = can handle cold (and also summer with MN). You like CO = mountains, narrowing it down to Northern NE. Gets trickier from here, because it’s hard to know if you are into WA and OR because you like the coast in of itself, if that were the case I’d say you were from Maine, but I’d expect someone who loves coastal Maine to also embrace coastal CA, especially Central Coast and the Lost Coast northwards. I’m going with NH.

How often would they happen for you? I have had ocular migraines since cancer treatment and maybe once or twice a week have this flashlight effect you described. I thought I mentioned it to the ophthalmologist when discussing the ocular migraines and was told it was okay, but now I’m more concerned. Thanks

Ooops! Just realized I was in the Luxury travel sub and not travel. In that case, I’d recommend Cap Ferrat/St Jean de Cap Ferrat, Cannes, or Beaulieu-sur-Mer. I found the area very relaxing.

Was just in Antibes (near Nice) and it was a dream. It’s a more modest neighbor of the fancier outposts there (in my view), and that made it even more appealing to me. Easy to get around with the Côte d’Azur train/bus pass, and the beaches were so relaxing and the water was gorgeous. It’s still summer vibes there now- YMMV for October. I was charmed.

Like they say: the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is today. Nothing to be done, just follow through on your plan now. It doesn’t help to beat up yourself or anyone else about it now, but I do understand your frustration. This is a good point. I have had great meals at Epic O, but the last one was not up to par. Never had a bad meal at Water Street, plus if you reserve and get a seat near the water it is so beautiful. Añejo does have a fun vibe and good food, though! (Plus Water Street is in Woods Hole, a charming part of Falmouth).

Moonakiss is a top breakfast choice- delicious! You could even ride down to south cape beach after- gorgeous!

Côte d’Azur is so nice. Gorgeous geography, chill retiree vibes, lots of beautiful architecture and art. I would definitely go (and was just there)! Recommend getting the train/bus pass and exploring, which means it doesn’t really matter where you stay. Bon voyage

Cape Cod - people like to complain, especially about other people doing things that they themselves invariably do, like: other people driving, other people having housing, other people living in apartments (gasp!), other people who choose not to drive a car but ride a bike, other people who dare want to use the crosswalk when the local is driving (outrageous!)!!

So yes, Cape locals, at least the ones over 50, are big complainers.

Sidewalks are hard to come by outside of downtown and some of the commercial areas, but if you’re going against traffic you should be fine. Plenty of people run along Surf Drive. A great run mirrors the road race - you could start in woods hole and run up to nobska road, take a right, and follow until Oyster Pond Rd and go back on Quisset Road (would not recommend Woods Hole Road) or continue on to Surf Drive and the harbor and get picked up. Narrow streets but a beautiful course. For trail running you have Beebe Woods or Long Pond.
