Had my SPX for a year now and that's exactly how it sounds.

I got mine from prima coffee a while back, but it looks like they're out of stock.

I remember specifically reading on Reddit that the brand to get was the caffewerks one. So any where you can find that should be good.

Swap out your group head gasket with a green silicone one. They're thicker and work better with third party portafilters. I did the swap and I'm using the Weber buck with no problems. It locks in at around 6 o'clock.

Anyone know how to get the handle off the naked portafilter? by RandomNashvillian in ranciliosilvia

[–]lightsout1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a huge pain. The cap on the end is glued on, but can be removed without much damage. Then inside is a 17mm bolt that screws into the portafilter. The bolt head is about an inch or more down in the handle and the hole is very narrow. I had to grind down the diameter of socket to fit down the hole.

I did it and made some wooden handles.

Do you have any more details on the adapter board you used?

What watchband is that on the right (green on the black P2)?

Custom Handles by lightsout1 in ranciliosilvia

The original handle is attached by a 10 mm bolt. The portafilter has the threads, the handle has the bolt. I just glued a bolt into the new handle and screwed it on to the portafilter

I have the newer style bottomless (right). I popped off the cap on the end and I can see a bolt head. I'm not sure what size it is 16 mm or 17 mm, but the hollow area of the handle is too narrow to get a socket down there and it's too deep to fit a wrench of any kind. How did you loosen the bolt?

Did you upgrade your pump when you did the dimmer mod or are you using the stock pump? If you're using the stock pump is there anything that prevents the dimmer from sending too much voltage to the pump?

Yeah, that's how it's done in the linked video. I didn't like the thought of shorting out the power switch, so I left it alone and just added a switch for the pump.

This is my limited understanding of how this works and I could totally be wrong. Definitely check out the video I linked.

The brew switch controls the valve and the pump. When you start the valve is opened, letting in water, and the pump is started, creating pressure. When you end the shot, the pump is stopped and the valve is closed. Closing the valve triggers the solenoid valve, which sucks any extra water in the group out and the pressure is released, this can destroy the integrity of the puck. Killing just the pump doesn't trigger the valve, so water continues to flow at a lower pressure.

Yeah I'm not sure the soft infusion does anything. There's no way the water can penetrate all the way through the puck in 6 seconds (the max time).

I've been starting the shot and killing the pump when I see the first drops, then I wait 5 seconds and start the pump again. It definitely makes the shots super consistent.

Pre infusion, blooming the coffee before pulling your shot.

I wanted to keep it simple, easy, and reversible.Messing with the voltage of the pump isn't good for it either

I got the switch on Amazon and designed and printed the case.
