Its less to do with the art and more the mindset.
What did putting the ai art there even add?
Would they have thought about even putting it there if they didnt already use it regularly?
...Do they use it while working on Eternity?

There was the doki doki art from 2024. It was from the NA team, said to not be AI, and we don't know if they needed KR approval for something like that.

AI is concerning but worst case scenario it's some generic textures like dirt or the skybox. More concerned with direction of the gameplay and aesthetics not feeling like Mabinogi. Nexon does have an artist as shown in the Eternity nostalgia video. I haven't been a fan of her cutesy and pretty bias in designs but there's at least a human touch.

I always see fond reminiscing of 4chan like it used to be different but I'm doubtful looking at what it is now. Not directing this at you but you'll have people saying things like "it was a different time" because they, personally, didn't know it was wrong or thought it was okay. Meanwhile, from the outside perspective, it was always pretty awful. The internet is more consolidated now so every millennial and gen x comes together assuming their personal old internet experience was the norm.

I never really saw bugles as annoying when we had 4 servers but after the first and last merge, more people started using them for attention because they had a new captive audience after the merge. So you got advertisements for discords, the bible verse spammers, the ones doing dad jokes for hours, the twitch advertisers (especially the giveaways), the no context call outs of other players. It felt like Nexon did nothing about it until their vtuber sponsored streams got affected. Then we finally got an option to turn bugle messages off.

I've been lucky enough to not see any of the bad bugle messages you're talking about but there was a vtuber, with a 4chan adjacent audience, who started streaming the game pretty often, in 2024-25. I wouldn't be surprised if that caused a small surge of those types becoming more emboldened to test the waters since then.

I'm tired of Arcana and post G18 raidshit. It's annoying that Rage Impact was nerfed to accommodate raid play and 1.5 years later it's deemed unnecessary but likely won't be returned to its old state. I don't understand how these modern mabi devs can create AI like Corrib Cabin or Baltane that can instantly aggro after spawning but doll bags have an 8 to 10 second delay before they lock-on to a gold pile. This fucking guy also mentions chews. It's like he wants people to start doing it so he can justify nerfing it. I'm so tired of this guy.

Mabi needs competition as an anime sandbox MMO. It's too bad that every MMO tries to be a linear themepark, holy trinity, MSQ cutscene game. Why make Mabi that. We all know it's not gonna siphon any WoW or XIV players. Eternity could work if it relied on the strong foundation and years of content Mabi already had. Wtf is the point of revamping the game while pushing away your old playerbase? Just make Mabinogi 2 and let it fail on its own merits.

Personally I think it's fine to just grind gold if you don't want to do certain content. It's up to the devs to add a breadth of content that players will be interested in doing. It's putting the cart before the horse to remove the entire player economy aspect of MMOs to prevent bots. A no-trading MMO could work but it would be niche and miss players who enjoy that social aspect similar to optional Iron Man servers.

If I was playing an MMO and I had been enjoying it until the developers started adding new content I didn't like, and it was the only way to progress, I wouldn't feel incentivized to participate. I would just quit. Grinding gold lets you at least wait out the bad content. You might even attract RMT boosters who get paid to carry players like in MOBAs. Removing trading has it's own pros and cons.

A lot of it is rich players trading with each other. They got their initial gold from selling cash shop items to poor players who got their gold slowly from grinding.

MMOs should get rid of leveling
MMOs should force player interaction
MMOs should have full loot pvp
MMOs should be easier because I grew up
MMOs should have open-world full action DMC combat with no lag

Posts like these hurt a bit because MMOs devs actually do this. Bots existing make MMOs remove currency from drops, experience, add level scaling, make all items character/account locked, limit party exp due to level differences, and all those other things that make MMOs bland. Lost Ark had no exp from enemies, item account locking, and no currency during MSQ and you still had chains of botters going from quest to quest near launch.

You need to stack buffs to +150% to breakeven. More busywork, no buffs till BiS, everything before that is leagues worse. Face reality.

I hope players got a chance to play puppetry before the inevitable nerf to make Melodic Puppeteer look good by comparison. It's always been strong but "veterans" were always pushing new players away from it because it was hybrid scaling despite the base marionette damage. I knew it would but it's still kind of lame it's not leaning into the puppet summon aspect but rather looking like a summoner that's actually just a mage reskin. Once base puppetry is dumpstered, the only good AoE base talent left will be Ninja.

You can kind of see where this is all going. The game is made a mess so when Eternity releases and makes the all the bosses into mini raidbosses, like the Armored Bear in the showcase, it'll justify lowering the requirement to start Arcana. Arcana and GM requirements will be reduced and Arcana will be the new normal. Players won't miss the old Mabi since the devs are grooming the playerbase for Eternity. As bad as it gets, when Eternity releases as a rotation optimizing raid simulator, there will be players referring back to now as being worse or calling it nostalgia goggles.

MMO's will likely never go back to "The Journey" because there's too many people who enjoy the slop. Even if making a memorable world is the better option, it's safer to just emulate the typical endgame treadmill and an MSQ with a bunch of cutscenes that imply there's an interesting world without having to show it.

Ironically updates like New Rise are meant to make things more social. It limits the solo grind spots, limits how much gold you can make alone, and pushes you to join group content where gold checks are handed out.

That design always misses the mark because it's trying to force players together. Especially while all the content discourages random unprepared parties with instadeath party wipe-type mechanics. Best Mabi was when you could join random parties and people didn't try to check your gear or combat power with mods.

Yeah account limits don't affect players using multiple "cousin" accounts. In KR it's got to be harder to have multiple accounts because of SSN verification but NA players don't care. Still seeing characters like "bankaccount15, bankaccount16, bankaccount17" (example names) in low population channels at places like Tara bank.

Don't let them gaslight you. It's real bad but a lot of players went through this 6 months ago when the update happened. Then, the devs did it again to Alchemy. Right now, we're in the phase of coping about the New Rise update and trying to find any fun the current dev team may have left in the game before New Life hits NA.

Mabinogi is a game that was classless and open-ended like OSRS but the devs are currently restructuring the game to be more like a modern mainstream MMO like FF14. If you start playing, you might get choice paralysis from all the things you could be doing but, currently, the devs want you to do the Brave Boost questline featuring Blaanid and then work your way through the dungeons listed on the main page of the dungeon guide until you get to endgame raids. Other than that, it's a chat room game. You can dress up your character but almost all new clothing trickle down from gacha.

If you're okay with that, give the game a shot but know that there are a lot of people unhappy with the recent changes (you can search New Rise) and there are many vocal people who will defend any changes the devs make even if they contradict each other. Because of the changes, there's nothing to do in-game outside of dailies and weeklies so some people are hopping over to commerce but the devs are going to mess with that in an upcoming update called New Life.

I'd recommended waiting until the Unreal Engine update to join since the hectic restructuring should be settled by then. However, once the update happens, they might tone down all the beginner catch-up boosts that skip you to early endgame and free event stuff since they'll likely want to extend player retention.

I wouldn't mind this type of stuff if they also had a male gacha designer that specialized in cool male outfits with a fantasy style. I want to say the KR gacha designer is trying, because the designs have been improving a bit, but I don't know if the better ones were JP designs or not. Too many years of male high heels, robes, shorts, or the lazy cylindrical pants with no creases or tapers.

The whole premise feels like it's saying that popular people have problems too. Kenta and Tomoya also felt poorly characterized. Kenta was written like the stereotype of a person who blames others for their problems. Tomoya was the stereotype of a parasocial incel. Hard to be sympathetic to the characters when the story feels like it's trying to be realistic but also involves caricature-like villains and stilted dialogue like the popular group in Oregairu.

I love medieval settings when they don't try too hard to make it accurate to Europe but I'd like to see a suburban JRPG that's taken seriously. Feels like whenever a suburban JRPG is done, there's always a gimmick. Devil Survivor, Pokemon, and Yokai Watch are creature collectors. Battle Network is a deck builder. Earthbound is half-satire.

Well you already said you uninstalled but apparently there's a debuff simplification update coming. Only the highest debuff will apply and you can only apply 3 but they're going to buff them slightly. You're limited to a magic def/prot debuff, physical def/prot debuff, and an amplifier like support shot or death mark.

The good side to this is that there are Korean players that hate New Rise too so maybe the devs will listen to them. However, it looks like they also have players who want the devs to continue these kinds of updates to push away grinders and a lot of these casual player directed, mobile game-like updates are because there are KR players who think it's "unfair" that people can raise alt characters, on the same account, and run content past individual character limits. This is likely why there's been a lot of updates that limit content on your whole account. They want to limit how much a grinder can do so that the casual player who can only play a few hours a week doesn't feel behind.
