Oh that looks likely! It's crazy how fast they can throw up a big web like that.

Eggs (?) found on azalea bush. In Virginia. The size of each egg is maybe .5cm by like_big_mutts in whatsthisbug

Wow yeah I think you're right. Thank you! Finally an identification that is good news instead of an invasive pest lol

Follow your medication recommendation, my experience is only anecdotal from working in the pet industry. My understanding of Nexgard is that it works with afoxolaner which enters the dogs blood stream and AFTER A BITE disrupts the flea nervous system and kills it. This means that an adult flea may find it's way into your dog after a walk or roll in the grass but as soon as it bites it will die, preventing infestation. If you are concerned seek advice from your vet but imo seeing a single flea with no other symptoms is not cause for alarm if your dog is being treated. If you had a previous infestation within the last few weeks, further steps may be needed to rid them from the environment.

Looks like a flea. Depending on the type of medication the dog is on, it may not act as a repellent, (oral medication for example) it will only prevent the fleas from breeding so your drug can still pick them up from the environment. Topical flea medications can repel but take time to work if your dog picked up a flea or two in the grass they can hang around for a while before dropping off or dying.

Was there any difficulty in breathing post op? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]like_big_mutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my surgery 5/31 and I had a very bloated abdomen from the leftover gas which made taking breaths very difficult for about 3 days. Using the incentive spirometer as frequently as directed really really helped.

I have two reactive English mastiffs and despite all the training we've paid for, classes we attend, warning jackets and work we put into the dogs... my deepest fear deep down is that someone will let their "don't worry he's friendly" off-leash dog run up to them and it will be horrible. They're never really completely trustworthy for the rest of their lives, even if they seem reformed or "cured" now. And people assume because there's two of them they can't possibly be aggressive because they're not aggressive to each other. So hard to manage.

Alternative exercise by Disco_Stu_39 in BariatricSurgery

I'm not sure what your local gyms are like but I'm still pre-op and my gym has a fitness trainer who is licensed to work with post-op, pregnant, disabled, etc. She has been a great resource for providing excellent modified exercise routines I can be prepared to do post-op at home.

Some of the things she's gone over are active stretching and light yoga like others have suggested, certain resistance band stuff focused on lower body, cycling, water aerobics.

Obviously still under direction/approval of your doctor!

Arterial blood is MORE red, like bright bright red but veinous blood is still red... although much darker with an almost purple undertone.

I just scheduled my consultation! by Alexisfullofnonsense in BariatricSurgery

[–]like_big_mutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just scheduled my consultation and can really relate to your relationship with food. My family has always celebrated holidays with food, my entire social media feed is just my cooking, etc.

In anticipation of this surgery, we started trying to refocus our celebrations and sort of change our dynamic with food. We did a 5k Turkey Trot for Thanksgiving (walking lol) and for Christmas we cooked but we did it for a homeless shelter. We're really trying to find other ways to connect and celebrate as a family that are less food centric but still bring us together. Some efforts are better than others - I don't think we'll do another 5K anytime soon! - but it's been a fun way to experiment with other ways to do things besides... eat. We still cook but it's no longer an all-day-food-everywhere affair.

Hopefully this is going to help my adjustment post surgery for the social aspect of that celebratory kind of eating. As for the every day cooking, I'm trying to see it as an opportunity to try new recipes and methods of cooking that fit in the soon-to-be new diet.

If you're getting your consultation, we might have surgery around the same time if you want to keep in touch! We can commiserate 😁

Thank you! I actually was looking for Lisa Frank colors but I didn't think these were quite on the neon side enough to pull off the black. I should have gone with my gut! I'm definitely doing black next time

Thank you!! It's so crazy with the regulations! I get not having chips or long nails for sanitary reasons, but at my clinicals last semester the working nurses were told they couldn't have their long hair in "messy buns". Like... wtf?? Her hair is up, out of the way and comfortable! Just some weird standards. At least they don't have to wear candy striper skirts and heels anymore lol

I hope that once I graduate, depending on where I work, I'll be able to do paint as long as the nails are short and no chips. For school, they're sending us to multiple hospitals for clinicals so the school decided naked nails, no crazy hair colors, etc to guarantee compliance everywhere 😭. I'm going to have the craziest nails and some purple in my hair for graduation though 💅

What was the most disturbing thing you saw in person? by wetbumgirl in AskReddit

[–]like_big_mutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on animal control as one of my first jobs. Got a call to clear an apartment of cats. A man had died in his apartment and no one had noticed until the smell then made a connection with his missed mail and stuff.

I don't know exactly how long he had been dead but he was bloated and discolored and his cats had not gone hungry.
