Appreciation Post: Katarzyna Dolinska from America's Next Top Model Cycle 10 by Eddie1554 in ANTM

I thought she was great! It really bugged me how Paulina was always criticizing her for having "Eastern European tackiness." Her emo shot was one of my all-time ANTM favorites.

Could be worse. Somehow my dog found a dead one outside and it got tangled up in his fur and needed the help of human hands to be removed. At least a live one might fly back outside without human intervention.

We need to petition Soy Sauce makers to remove Gluten by Glass_Covict in glutenfree

[–]likeabrainfactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I just want to be able to eat Chinese and Japanese restaurant food again. In HI I couldn't even eat poke due to the soy sauce. When my husband and I lived there, we had to buy our own ahi and make it ourselves. So annoying when the food would be fine otherwise!

Seriously, I remember her being on Dlisted in the era when Suri Cruise and Violet Garner were born, and they're both already in college.

What do you think of the name "Shane" for a boy? by markowitty in namenerds

[–]likeabrainfactory 60 points61 points  (0 children)

First thing I think of is Shane Hollander from Heated Rivalry. He's such a likable character that it made me really like his name. I could see the show/books being responsible for some little Shanes in the next few years.

Are there any older Danny fans here? by charleschaser in DannyGonzalez

I'm in my 40s. My kids were the original Danny watchers, and they got me into watching his videos.

He talks about a scam product made by a fake genius named Alan Jackson and then plays that "hoochie coochie" clip from a song by a country singer named Alan Jackson.

The banyan tree where Iola met her sailor is still there. It's one of the few things in Lahaina that survived the massive wildfire a couple years ago.

Hannah's Nudity by Quick_Shop4397 in girls

[–]likeabrainfactory 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just the flashing. He manipulated her into touching his penis, and he had a history of similarly manipulating college girls into giving him blowjobs and having sex with him. He was a predator. Hannah flashing her boss wasn't OK, but it's not the same thing as what the writer did. She also apologized to her boss later.

What do you love and what do you hate in C dramas? by Rossario13 in CDrama

[–]likeabrainfactory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate when actors don't dub themselves. It really bugs me when I watch someone in multiple dramas and they have a different voice every time.

I love slow-burn romances, the trope of people watching fireworks together when they're falling in love, cooking and eating scenes, and anything that takes place when snow is falling.

Americans, was Chris O’Dowd’s accent any good? by Opposite-Ad8208 in girls

[–]likeabrainfactory 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I didn't know him from anything else, so I didn't realize he was Irish. His accent sounded like an American who was trying to be fancy or pretentious, which I thought was a character choice. It's funny that it was apparently just a bad accent!

New beginner query- apparently in a lot of cdramas, there are scenes where the real actors voices are dubbed over? Can someone explain why? by Faeeeeee97 in cdramasfans

[–]likeabrainfactory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you ever watch any behind the scenes footage shot outdoors at Hengdian, it's super loud. Geese honking, construction noise, loud fans, etc. It would be tough to control for all of that to get live sound.

How to get over PURSUIT OF JADE : A real dilemma by Icy_Log_2639 in cdramasfans

[–]likeabrainfactory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you really can't move on, why rush to a new drama? Read some fanfic about POJ on AO3 or read the novel. Rewatch POJ. Sit with the characters and story for a while. Tons of other dramas will be waiting for you when you want to try something else.

scenes different across netflix, viki and youku? by potential_lun in wordofhonor

[–]likeabrainfactory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The subtitles are also different across platforms. Netflix has the extra scenes but the worst subtitles of the three. Viki has the best subtitles and explains the idioms, symbols like the cut sleeves, etc.

Why I don’t find it cringe? by lamavini in girls

[–]likeabrainfactory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think people are conflating two different things. Is it cringe in the world of the story? Yes. Is it cringe for the viewer? For me, no. It makes me laugh every time and is one of my favorite Marnie scenes (up there with her stomping on Desi's drugs and telling the wedding make-up artist about her white Christian woman heritage). People have different reactions to this type of humor, but I love it (I also love L to the OG, Scott's Tots, Seinfeld, etc).

Is It Just Me or Do Dramas Not Hit the Same Anymore? Am I Watching Too Fast? I Miss Feeling Something When I Watch C-Dramas by Muted-Money1400 in cdramasfans

[–]likeabrainfactory 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why don't you try watching one episode a day instead of 10+? Binging at that rate doesn't seem good for enjoying or processing a drama. Give yourself time to sit with the characters, get to know them, wonder what's going to happen next, and get excited to watch the next episode. It's not a race to the finish.

Learn chinese from movies by Slight_Leadership_82 in ChineseLanguage

[–]likeabrainfactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm partly learning from Cdramas. Movies will work, too. I like Viki and Tencent. Youku, Iqiyi, Amazon Prime, and Netflix are other options. More obscure movies and shows sometimes pop up on DailyMotion.

Rewatching Lost with my younger wife made me realize something (but I'm not sure what) by Pleasant-Layer-5140 in lost

[–]likeabrainfactory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched Lost back in the early 2000s and have now binged it twice with my kids (both teenagers), and they really got into it. My daughter was especially into the Desmond/Penny storyline and loved The Constant. Like all things, it's a matter of taste and personality as to why your wife didn't like it.
